Can I take Ciprofloxacin for a tooth infection? I found some in the medicine cabinet from a previous Dr. Visit and was wondering if it would be effective??? ## Although Ciprofloxacin is not commonly prescribed for dental infections, it may be used for certain mouth or gum diseases, after a culture and sensitivity test is done. This will show the best antibiotic to treat the infection. (For example, Ciprofloxacin can effectively treat rare dental infections caused by the Enterobacteriaceae group of bacteria, but not others). So it may be a hit or miss if you still intend on using this medication. Dosages for dental purposes: The typical adult dose is 250 milligrams to 750 milligrams every 12 hours. This dose is given for 7 to 10 days. Ciprofloxacin should not be taken with dairy products...

Hello, I took this for ten days four X per day for infected tooth. How long AFTER I get off it will the keflex still help? I am going to be doing a second round while I wait for oral surgery, but how long in between rounds should I be okay? Thanks MUCH. It's urgent. ## Unfortunately, there's no time frame that can be quoted to answer your question, since we are all different, and it may also be affect by other factors, such as your overall health, the type of infection you have, how severe the infection is, and etc. The best thing to do would be to try and minimize the dosing gap, as much as possible. It is an antibiotic, not a controlled substance, so to speak, so you should be able to pick up a refill right away. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Keflex as possibly inc...

My tooth ache is getting worse. I had a Diclogem tablet, still did not help. Please advise. ## Hi, Connie! Sorry about the toothache. Have you contacted your dentist? Most toothaches are caused by some type of damage or decay of the tooth and if it's a deep, very painful ache, then it's most likely infected and that's going to require an antibiotic, as well as getting the problem corrected. It isn't going to clear up on its own and trying to take a medication for the pain, without seeing your dentist isn't going to help a lot, because the pain will just keep returning. Dental infections have the potential to be very dangerous, if left untreated, because they can be directly linked to heart disease and heart valve infections, so it isn't a risk that's worth ta...

Had tooth pulled yesterday. Tooth had root canal, crown 20 yrs ago. Tooth got infected, had to be taken out. The doctor didn't say I needed an antibiotic to kill the infection. Would Amoxocillin do anything? It is very sore and throbbing. I don't want to take pain medication. I would think the infection is still in the gum. ## Hello, Susan! How are you? Sorry about the tooth problem. However, an antibiotic is not always necessary. In most cases of dental infection, the bacteria becomes trapped in the tooth, or under the tooth, so once it's extracted it will drain and usually clear up on its own. Thus, you shouldn't take an antibiotic, unless your doctor or dentist has specifically said you need to take one. Taking one when it isn't needed creates the risk of developi...

Whole leftside of teeth hurt, mostly bottom but top too, tounge a little sore on same side..is it infected?? And would ampicilina help?? ## Hello, Brish! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain. Only a doctor or a dentist can diagnose the presence of an infection and prescribe an appropriate antibiotic, if an infection is present. Have you consult your doctor, yet? With it basically being that whole side of the mouth and including the tongue, there's a chance that it may not be dental related, so you need to have this checked out.

I went to a urgent care to get a prescription for penicillin for a tooth infection my left side of my face has swelled up so I went in he prescribed me amox-clav 875 until I can see my dentist but by my tooth being infected the dentist can’t pull it until the swelling goes down, but it’s been 3 days & the swelling is still here but the pain has went down some, last time this happened the doctor gave me amoxicillin and my swelling went down the next day, do I need a different penicillin pill I need help ## It's usually the active infection that prevents them from pulling it, not the swelling, since when the infection is active and in its prime, they can't numb it properly to pull it. I had a tooth out last week and I think it's infected but I carnt get an appointment at the dentist for another 2week I've got doxycycline 100mg in the cupboard from a prior infection Im just wondering if it will help with the infection I've got in the gum socket at the moment?? Until i can get an appointment?? ## It is a broad spectrum antibiotic that can be used to treat various types of bacterial infections. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. However, the main issue is that you may not have enough to fully eradicate the infection, which could cause further complications, such as your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria and that could turn into a much more severe mess. I HAVE A BAD TOOTH ACHE. CAN I TAKE MOX CAPSULES. HOW MANY TIMES IN A DAY ## What is the dosage and active ingredient? Most medications that use Mox in the name contain the antibiotic Amoxicillin, but the duration of treatment and frequency they are taken depends on the dosage and severity of the infection being treated. The medication can also cause side effects, such as: nausea, dizziness, diarrhea and skin rash. Have you consulted a dentist? If there is an infection, this medication can help, but it will not resolve the root of the problem, such as a cavity, that has allowed the tooth to become infected.

I have an infected tooth and I have some antibiotic that I've never taken called Sulfamethoxazole Tmp. Can I use them? ## Hello, Tete! Sorry about the tooth. You need to see a dentist, even if you already have an antibiotic to take, if there is a dental infection present, it will only help temporarily. Since the antibiotic cannot fix the underlying cause of the infection, such as a deep cary or receding gum line, it will just keep returning. Additionally, there is a chance that it isn't an actual infection and then it would not be appropriate to use an antibiotic and that creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. You can learn more about this medication here: MedlinePlus ## Can sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim (800/160mg) be used for teeth infections?

Can cephalexin antibiotics be used to cure an infection in the gum from a wisdom tooth ## Yes, it is an antibiotic and is effective at treating many types of infections. How are you? I'm sorry about your tooth ache! A root canal doesn't constitute losing the tooth. As detailed by the NIH, it involves drilling down into the tooth to remove the roots that have been damaged by the infection and then the tooth is usually capped. This eliminates the pain and prevents reinfection. The other tooth may not be infected itself, it could be painful due to the infection in the other one, but only your dentist can let you know f...
