I have a gum infection. My dentist prescribed Amoxicillin 500 mg, 4 times a day. Would this be considered to be a "normal" dose of the medication? It seems to me to be quite a high dosage, i.e., 2000 mg a day. I just need some guidance on this. ## It can vary, depending on the severity of the infection being treated and thus, can range from 2 to 4 doses daily. And you also have to remember that in this case, where it is a gum infection being treated, you have to eradicate the existing infection and prevent reinfection, since you have to eat every day and expose your gums to further possible contaminants. A higher dosage might cause more severe side effects, such as worsening of the nausea, dizziness and diarrhea that antibiotics can cause. Are there any other questions? You can ...

In december I developed bad tooth pain and a sore on the gum in a left molar. I have a heart murmer and my blood press.rose to a high level but was erratic and other times a normal rate. I called a dentist and he said to go to the ER. I did and they prescribed amoxicillin at 500mgs every 8 hrs. The last dose was on Jan 3, 2013 and by then the tooth problem was gone. I went to a dentist and he found no infections but said a molar on the opposite side which had lost some filling should be repaired soon. I made an appt. with him, but in the meantime it developed a blister near the root and soreness at the gumline. Also I started having erratic BP swings again sometimes 160/105 and resting pulse to 88. When I called he said to cancel his appt and go to the ER again, he didn't think the ...

My dentist proscribed me amoxicillin for my gums. He proscribed 250g three times a day. I have been taking it twice a day for several days. Any serious complications from this? ## Under dosing an already low dose may not be the best idea, unless you're using other natural alternatives as an adjunct therapy. Reason being is that if you don't kill the infection, it can become more resistant and harder to kill the next time around. So you may want to continue taking it as prescribed if this is a concern to you. How long has your doctor prescribed it to you for? Most antibiotics like this are generally prescribed for up to 7-10 days, depending on the type & severity of the infection. A 250mg dose indicates that your infection may not be very serious, otherwise they probably woul...

I had puss leaking from the gums but the dentist did not drain it. He just extracted my bottom row wisdom tooth and gave me Amoxicillin 500 MG 4x. The tooth extraction was about $541, does that sound to high for one tooth? I used all the drug and it seemed to help but I relapsed. My inner cheeks are swollen and it seems to be slightly swollen along my jawline. I had that before taking any prescription so it's not an allergic reaction. Also around my mouth feels a little swollen. What should I do next? The second time I went to the Dentist he didn't prescribe me anything and said the swelling was okay. He never mentioned my inner cheek swelling even though you can't miss it. Should I try another dose of Amoxicillin or something else or maybe 2 antibiotics? I'm on the verg...
