My dad underwent oral surgery and cannot swallow. He is on a liquid diet and on this med. He is diabetic. The medicine is crushed and mixed with variety of food but he is not taking the medicine. It is extremely bitter. What can this powdered form be mixed with so that it helps him? Thanks ## Since this is a time released medication, it is not safe to crush it. That could result in overdose, because he may get too much of the medication, at once. It would be best to consult his doctor as he may need to switch to a regular release medication, for awhile, or possibly insulin. trying to find out the difference between divalproex500mg dr and divalproex 500mg er ## There actually is no difference, they are just different abbreviations that mean the same thing. The DR stands for delayed release and the ER stands for extended release, they both just denote that the medication is in a time released formulation, so it isn't released all at once, when it's taken. You may also see it abbreviated as SR, for sustained release, CR for controlled release or just XR. I've been taking Gyree 4 and Cetapin XR 500 in the morning before breakfast and another dose of Cetapin XR 500 at night, before dinner, per my doctor's instructions. This regiment has kept my blood sugar under control for quite some time. However, after a seizure resulted from an overdose of Synasma, my treatment was adjusted by another physician to Glyree 4 in the morning and Cetapin XR 500 at night, which also maintained my blood sugar levels well. Ten months later, with my glucose level dropping to 53, the physician adjusted my treatment to Cetapin 500 in the morning and night. Since this change, my fasting blood sugar averages about 140, with postprandial levels around 180. Could it be beneficial for me to revert back to my previous regimen, with Glyree 4 and Cetapin 500 in ...
