Is It a narcotic? How safe is it to take for long period?Does it interfere with any other drug taken? I take it for fibromialgia and rheumathoid arthritis. ## No, Tramadol is not classified as a narcotic, though the FDA has changed their minds on this, several times. Currently, it is classified as a centrally acting analgesic, because it does not control pain as well as a narcotic, but it can cause similar side effects, such as: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth. It can react with some other medications, however, there are far too many for me to list. Can you post back with the name of any other drugs you are concerned about? I will gladly check the interactions for you.

So I just got tramadol and it says that it has hydrochloride in it. Is it opioid-based? I read the instructions and it said they are a narcotic. ## Hi Nancy, According to Wikipedia, hydrochloride is defined as an acid salt. This is not opioid-derived from what I can tell. In the pharmaceutical field, my understanding is that the presence of hydrochloride acts as a catalyst for better absorption / bioavailability. For this reason, hydrochloride exists in a myriad of drug formulations (including non-narcotics). However, there are reports of individuals being hypersensitive to hydrochloride and noting that they should try to avoid it whenever possible. These patients may be few and far between, but if in doubt I would encourage you to contact your pharmacy just to be on the safe side. I ho...

I have some tramadol pills for pain that expired last year 11/14 and I was wondering if I can use them for pain in my stomach that I have now? ## Hello, Punkin! How are you? It would actually be best to have yourself checked out and discover what is actually causing the stomach pain. While Tramadol may be a temporary relief of the pain, it won't fix an underlying issue that could be causing it, such as an ulcer or gastritis. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Can Tramadol raise blood pressure or lower blood pressure? ## I have tried tramadol a few times for pain relief and I can ...

I have some pills that are little white round and don't have no imprint expose to be tramadol ## Hello, Ray! How are you? If they have no imprint, they are most likely just some type of over the counter product. All U.S. prescription tablets are required to have imprints to enable their identification, in case of emergency. The imprint enables someone to discover what medication they contain, the dosage and what pharmaceutical company manufactured them. Only over the counter products are not required to have imprints. The FDA lists Tramadol as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I'm not sure which over the counter product this is, because there are m...

I have been taking Tramadol for at least 9 years now for chronic post-surgical right knee pain, back pain, and Arthritis. They just took Tramadol off of the $4 list at wal-mart and Target. I do not like narcotics because they make me feel sick, and have horrible withdrawal symptoms and side effects. I am already physically dependent on the Tramadol so I don't want to make it any worse by adding a Narc to it. I am allergic to NSAIDS to the point that if I take them it will kill me, Tramadol is becoming to expensive, and Tylenol doesn't even come close to alleviating my pain, I am in so much pain all of the time...what pain meds can I take that isn't expensive, works well on severe bone and joint pain and not an NSAID??? ## Actually, Tramadol is classified as an opiate/narcotic...

is Tramadol contains any opiates ? ## Tramadol is narcotic! Some have different views on it but it is 100% narcotic with opiate traits. This medicine should be used with lots of caution, the doctors make it out like its non-addictive, but it is truly addictive as any other narcotic. But there are some good things that come from tramadol, and just as this year they are now finding it naturally produced in relatively high concentrations in the roots of the African Pin Cushion Tree. Just know it can be abuse very easy! Thanks ## Hello, Hokaz! How are you? Justin is correct, thank you Justin! Tramadol is classified as an opioid analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming. When creating it, researchers tried to take an opiate and remove the addictive potential to prevent abuse, bu...

Is there any tramadol that contains codeine? I was given a white oblong capsule and was told it was tramadol with codeine... ## No, Tramadol is an opioid narcotic that is actually stronger than Codeine. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, and dizziness. What are the markings on the tablet? That is what would enable me to double check the active ingredients for you. Can you please post back with more details? Thanks!

I just started taking brintellix and info. guide says not to take tramadol with. What can I take to replace the tramadol? ## Hello, Jackie! How are you? Virtually any of the other opiates are fine, as long as your doctor approves. Most do not cause the same interaction. The FDA list narcotics as having the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Brintellix may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, weight changes and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

is tramacet a narcotic or opioid?..is tramacet as powerful as percocet? ## Tramacet contains the active ingredients Tramadol and Acetaminophen and yes, the Tramadol is currently classified as an opiate, however, this classification has changed, several times since the medication was discovered. It really doesn't seem to be a powerful as the Oxycodone in Percocet, though some people do get great results from it. Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth. I just read on Web md that the Fda Now considers trazadone a narcotic. Is this true? ## Hello, Mcky! How are you? No, Trazodone is an SARI class antidepressant. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes. It is possible that the person who wrote what you read may have confused it with Tramadol, which is a very common error. Tramadol has been reclassified several times and is now considered an opioid, due to the fact that it is very closely related to narcotics and the FDA has found it to be habit forming. Is there anything else I can help with?

I can not take any NSAIDs due to being a gastric bypass patient and there is too much of a risk of a bleed with these drugs.. I am already on hydrocodone so I can not take any other narcotic analgesics. Is there any other non narcotic chronic pain reliever out there to supplement the hydrocodone. Can't take tramadol now because NYS classified this as a narcotic. My doctor is going crazy trying to find something for me and has had no luck so far. ## Why can't you take another narcotic? But if your doctor doesn't want to combine them, you could switch to a different one that's s...

I have taken different varieties and markings of tramadol and notice some work better than others and some make me sick. Does tramadol come in different makeups. ## Hello, Sadie! How are you? I'm sorry about the experiences you've had. They all contain the same active ingredient, but the inactive may be different from one manufacturer to another. The FDA classifies this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. However, there can be slight variations in the amount of the active ingredient from one generic to another, so some may have a little more than usual, which could explain why they made you ill. Tramadol is not a narcotic but a very powerful pain medication without being a narcotic ## You are correct, it is not a narcotic nor a controlled substance; however, I have not found it to be a powerful pain killer. It has been abused a lot and is addictive but it did nothing for my pain, and is only recommended for mild to moderate pain. ## Does Ultram have the same effects as Percoset or Vicodin? ## I think I can add some valuable information to this post to better explain this issue… Tramadol was at one point classified as a narcotic opiate, but when it was found to not be as effective at treating pain, it was reclassified as a centrally acting analgesic. The way Tramadol came into being is because an attempt was made to take all the beneficial effects of an opiate ...
