I was put on xerelto 3 months ago after hip surgery and got a dvt..Dr took blood work last week and a doppler ultrasound and found no markers or signs of blood clot in my calf. I have been taken off 2 days ago but no dr will tell me how long to wait to shave or continue advil..I also can not find any information on it..Please help.Thank you ## There is actually no need to refrain entirely from shaving, when taking Xaretlo, you just need to be very, very cautious as even a small nick could bleed severely. Thus, unless your doctor says otherwise, you should be fine if you just proceed with caution. As to the Advil, only your doctor can inform you as to how long you should wait. The FDA classifies it as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and lists its typical side effects as possibly includi...

Been taking xarelto for 8 months after PE. Has anyone stopped after treatment? Risk of stroke scares me. ## Hello, Mary! How are you? Yes, there have been several people that have posted about stopping it, but with their doctor's approval and supervision. Along with the risk of stroke from stopping on your own, you also risk heart attack and other blood clots, as reported by the FDA. How much longer will you be taking it?

How are you feeling? I am very sorry that the Xarelto made you so miserable. Many people have complained about similar side effects. However, there are other medications available to treat your condition, so you should speak to your doctor about trying an alternative. Has anyone else had a bad experience with Xarelto? ## I have been on 15mg Xarelto for 6 years now. I am72 years old. I have in the last year developed anxiety which pushes my blood pressure way up and forces me to take lexomotil which drops the pressure down to normal within an...

I took 15 mg for 21 days. Then doc wrote script for 6 mos of 15 mg again. I thought it was supposed to go up to 20 mg once a day. Does anyone ever take just 15 mg for the six month following the inital dosage? ## Hello, Judy! How are you? Actually, it depends what you're taking it to treat, in some cases the patient should remain on the 15mg dosage, but in others, they should be raised to 20mgs. What condition are you being treated for? The FDA lists the typical side effects of Xarelto as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. ## I am on Xarelto 15mgs for three weeks. I recently tapered to 20mgs once a day. My leg continues to swell during the day but not while I sleep nor early morning when I wake up. My concern is the swelling...

I took a 3 month course of Xarelto to clear a DVT following an extended hospital visit. I took the last dose 3 days ago. I have had severe lower back ache and a headache since stopping. Is this coincidence or cold it be related? I was in the hospital with severe anemia and am still fighting to get my iron back up. Blood count is in normal range after transfusions. ## Hello, Lee! How are you? No, those are normal withdrawal effects, many people have reported such symptoms, after finishing their course of treatment. As listed by the FDA, you may also experience diarrhea and dizziness. If they continue past a few weeks, or get worse, you should consult your doctor. Is there anything else I can help with?

I've been taking Wafarin for three years and that has been agony. Regular blood tests, not always pleasant, and the drug itself, a derivative of rat poison was and is a crude preventive measure.. Yes I was scared of changing the routine but now I'm on Xarelto and I feel so much better. No dietary restrictions. Yes I was tired for a few days. The difference between Wafarin and Xraelto is that I can think.. Wafarin destroys the senses. Yes I was scared of the change, but so glad I did. ## Had been treated for lower lumbar problems with IV's now had double PE and was put on Xrealto wanting to know how long I have to go before I can have my next IV the back and leg pain is bad to were I can hardly walk. ## Hello, Reinhold! I've been taking xarelto 20 mg for the past 10 days, 1 a day, which I take at night and I'm nauseous and just a general feeling of unwell & no appetite. I was just wondering how long do the side effects last? Especially the nausea? Can anyone help? ## It may take about 4 to 5 weeks for them to improve and go away, according to the U.S. FDA. You may also experience headache, increased risk of bleeding, and easy bruising. Are you on any other medications? What condition is being treated? ## Xarelto is an evil demonic dangerous drug that should be pulled off the market. How the FDA could allow this drug on the market is beyond me because it has no known antidote to stop bleeding and if you require emergency surgery they cannot do it because you may bleed to death. It's all ...

Hi, I'm Redd, I've been on Xarelto for 6 weeks now due to 3 DVTs and 2 PEs and I'm just now beginning to experience the leg pains, how long do they normally last? ## Hello, Redd! How are you? Actually, sometimes they don't. Many people experience such issues for the duration of treatment and have had to stop the medication early, or switch to something else. The same applies to the other side effects listed by the FDA, which may include nausea, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Have you consulted your doctor? They may have some ideas that could help alleviate it. ## Hi Redd, I had so much presser in my legs, had to stop xarelto, it felt like my calf's were going to bust. In a couple of days, my legs are back to normal. Pills help one thing, but ...

Can these two drugs, when taken together, cause strokes in women over 55? I was told by a pain management doctor that I should not take these two together. ## I see warnings about taking them together causing increased bleeding risks in those with kidney disease, but nothing specific to women over 55, as listed by NIH and FDA reports. There are many cases where these are prescribed together to treat various heart conditions. Are you on any other medications?

I have pinpoint red spots like a reaction of some sort. I'm on xarelto for clots found in my lungs n leg from cast n immobility... Can I take benadryl if on xarelto? ## Those could be due to bleeding, which Xarelto has been known to cause, as listed by the FDA, along with nausea, headache and easy bruising. Thus, before taking anything else to try to treat it, it would be best to have this checked out by your doctor to discover the cause. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Been on Xarelto (for atrial fib) for a year. I get occasional bright red bleeding after urination. Assuming it's due to Xarelto and my blood counts are OK with no other ill effects, should I stop Xarelto (could go to Warfarin which I used to take w/o side effects) or continue Xarelto w/ occasional smal...

I have been on Sintrom for 6 months after an incident of DVT and last week I switched to Xarelto taking 20mg/day. Since then I have noticed slight pain and swelling to my leg. Is this one of the side effects? Apart from that no other side effects are noticed... ## Hello, KZ! How are you? Yes, Xarelto can cause edema and muscle pain as side effects, along with nausea and increased risk of bleeding. You should have the edema checked out, as it may require treatment, or you may need to switch to a different medication. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Started taking Xarelto @ month ago. If this is a normal reaction thats fine just checking because of flying tomorrow i had a walk with support stockings and it felt better just still fèel it off and on while I am sitting down looking forward to hearing from you ## Why the switch? Can Xarelto and Piascledine be taken together? I am currently on my last pack of Xarelto, however I now all of a sudden, after 6months am having pain in the leg I have the clot in. It has not swollen up as it did before and someone recommended I take Piascledine. Can I? Regularpain killers either don't work or are on the 'do not take' list ?? ## Given that you have had a clot in that leg, and are taking the Xarelto, it would be best for you to consult your doctor. Even if there is no swelling, the pain may be due to the clot, due to another forming, or etc. Only your doctor can say with certainty what is causing it, and how to treat it properly. Ref: Xarelto Information As to the Piascledine, it is nothing more than a supplement that contains Avocado, soybean, and other vege...

I have been taking Xarelto approx. one month for AFib. Taking this drug terrifies me! I also have a bad case of psoriasis. My dermatologist prescribed many different creams over time but they didn't help at all. Last week he suggested methotrexate but said I would need blood work including a TB blood evaluation. I am so undecided about what to do. Does anyone know of an alternative other than methotrexate for psoriasis? Both of these drugs have such serious side effects it scares me. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. ## Hi Mila, You asked about alternatives for psoriasis. I've been doing some research lately on Nigella Sativa (Black Cumin Seed Oil) for topical application as a psoriasis treatment. NIH posted some clinical studies indicating its use as a remedy for suc...

Hello, Hope someone can help. I've been hitting a wall of fatigue everyday about 1pm to the point where I need to take a 2 hour nap when my daughter is napping and its painful to wake up even after that. I take Xarelto everyday with dinner to treat a DVT. I've been on it 4 months. Is this a known side effect? I tested my theory when I started to realize this began after taking Xarelto and skipped a dose one evening. The following day I didn't need a nap and didnt have that same debilitating exhaustion. I'm only 34 this is no time to be this tired after a full nights sleep! It feels like a crash, an unnatural exhaustion. Thanks! ## Hi! Sorry about the problem that you're having. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a lot of side effect information on this dr...

I took 30 mg a day from3 weeks, then dropped it to 20 mg per day. About 6 days after dropping to 20 mg, I started to get pain in joints, primarily hands, feet, knees, elbows, etc. I am being treated for PE's. My rheumatologist tested me for all connective tissue orders which were all negative. I am suffering and only take Tylenol for pain, which is not too helpful. I am debating if I should switch blood thinners or if joint symptoms will reduce over time with the Xarelto. Thank you to all. ## Hello, Cenzo! How are you? Joint pain has been a frequently reported side effect of Xarelto and it doesn't seem to go away, which has caused quite a few people to have to stop taking it. Another commonly reported problem is weight gain of generally greater than 40 pounds. Is there anything ...

Hi everyone.. I injured my knee (patellar dislocation + meniscal tear) during martial arts practice and developed a DVT. The DVT was diagnosed approximately 20 hours after the incident but the circulation and swelling problem had started half an hour of the incident. So, from the blood work, i do not have any predisposition that could cause blood clots. Also, I am a very active person and used to train 6 days a week. I was on clexane 100mg daily for 10 days and conducted a second doppler evaluation. The clot was occlusive and 15cm long in the first place, and it became non-occlusive dvt in 10 days of clexane. I am not sure whether or not it shortened the length of the clot, but all the symptoms of DVT disappeared within 20 days. So after the 1st treatment, I was again on clexane for day...

Following a pulmonary embolism two weeks ago, I was put on Rivaroxaban (Xarelto) 15mg twice daily for eighteen days and after that 20mg once daily. For the last week, I have had painful cystitis. Online information warns that my usual cystitis medication of Trimethoprim should not be used. Please can anyone suggest an antibiotic which is safe to use in combination with the blood thinner?
