I am taking 30 mgs. Oxycodone up to 3 pills per day for severe back pain. Years ago I was on Oxycontin and don't remember the mgs. What is the difference between these two medications. I believe Oxycontin is stronger if they are the same dosage, is that correct? ## Hello, Candy! How are you? Oxycodone is the active ingredient in Oxycontin, it's just in a time released formulation that's designed to slowly release the medication over a period of 12 hours. So no, neither is stronger. It's just that the regular Oxycodone that you're taking now is released all at once, within 15 to 20 minutes of your taking it. This medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else ...

I keep searching and STILL don¨t have a straight answer. I am currently on 30mg, 3 times a day of OXYCODONE (legally prescribed) for horrific back pain..... ¿WHAT is the difference between the 2, if any, besides the NAME? oxycodone AND oxycontin........ PLEASE help me out! thanks! thanks!! ## Its the same drug - Oxycodone. One is time released (Oxycontin) and one is immediate release (oxycodone). If they changed your meds from Oxycodone 30mg 3xper day (total of 90mg a day) to Ocycontin it would be probably be 40mg 2x a day with breakthrough meds. ## Pita's comment is basically true. Though OxyContin is technically oxycodone hydrochloride - a slightly different formula, but yes -- essentially the same drug. The major difference is the time-released delivery of OxyContin as ...

seem to be getting confused between the differences as I did think both were opiates ## Hello, Todd! How are you? I'm sorry about your confusion and I'm happy to help clear it up for you. Oxycontin contains the opiate Oxycodone in a time released formulation. However, Percocet contains Oxycodone coupled with Acetaminophen. Oxycodone is also available as a regular release formulation and an instant release, called Roxicodone and Oxy IR, respectively. The FDA lists this as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have been prescribed Belbuca 150 mcgs to take in addition to Percocet 10/325 tid. Should this provide...

I have been taking hydrocodone 10-325 for 8 or 9 years. And now my doctor wants to put me on oxycontin. I have never taken any before and he did not say what strength. What are the dosages??? Is it any better than the hydrocodone 10-325??? ## Hello, Tazman57! How are you? Oxycontin is a time released formulation of Oxycodone, the medication is slowly released over a 12 hour period. It is stronger than Hydrocodone, you only need 6.67mgs of Oxycodone to equal each 10mgs of Hydrocodone. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. It's available in varying doses starting at 10mgs and going all the way up to 160mgs. Is there anything e...

Hi, I'm new here, hoping I can find some answers by real people. I have been taking 80mg oxocontin 1x12hrs., for app. 7 months, via pain clinic, they just, app., 3 weeks ago, changed my meds from that to opanaER 40mg., 1x12hrs., does anyone know the difference between the two? I have been suffering a long time from pain, due to 2 unsuccessful back surgeries, they tell me now, there's nothing more they can do, I am permanently nerve damaged. I have been thru hell and back with different meds, I'm at a loss, now. Any info or support would be deeply appreciated. Thank you ## They both contain different opiates, Oxycontin contains Oxycodone, while Opana contains Oxymorphone. However, the dosage you've been prescribed is equivalent. Have you tried taking it, yet? The FDA clas...

I have MS and need pain relief. I don't like the stigma oxycontin has to it. I simply don't find it helpful. Is Opana a good substitute? I take 5 mg of oxycodone for breakthrough pain but sometimes it is not enough. If I don't deal with the pain appropriately I get sicker and more fatigue. I am not familiar with narcotics at all. I will admit a fear of them. Any answers please. ## BEEN ON OPANA AND THE ER FOR ABOUT 10 MONTHS NOW. I LIKE IT. DOESN'T SEEM TO MAKE YOU SLEEPY AFTER THE 2nd DAY. MY PAIN LEVEL STAY AT ABOUT A 3 TO A 6 NOW WHEN IT WAS A 10. ## ## I have herniated disks in my t-spine and have tried almost everything out there. Does anyone know the difference between Roxicontin (Roxycontin) and Oxycontin? ## The correct drug names are Oxycontin and Roxicodone, they both contain the narcotic Oxycodone, but Oxycontin is an extended release formulation that is taken every 12 hours and Roxicodone is a regular release formulation. ## As far as ROXYCONTIN or ROXICODONE, what are the different milligrams that are available? I know of 15 & 30. Is there a 80 milligram ROXICONTIN? ## Do oxycontin and roxicontin come up as the same substance on a U/A? ## Yes, Jen, since they both contain the narcotic Oxycodone, they will both come up as an opiate on a drug panel. Oliver, no, there is no 80mgs of Roxicodone, it is only available 5mgs, 15mgs and 30mg tablets. ## Is the round light blue pill with M on front and scored o...

Last month my doctor gave me oxycontin 20 mg hcl. This month my prescription is for oxycontin 20mg TB12. What is the difference? ## There is no difference, they are both 20mg Oxycontin, which contains the narcotic Oxycodone in a time released formulation. The TB12 just specifically designates the every 12 hour dosing. :-) The TB12 isn't commonly used, but I have seen it a few times before. Learn more Oxycontin details here. what is the difference between percocet and oxycontin? ## Oxycontin is just a brand name for Oxycodone; it comes in various forms and is used to treat moderate to severe levels of pain. Percocet contains Oxycodone + Acetaminophen; which is used for the same purpose. I haven't personally taken either of the two, so I cannot give an evaluation on which one may be more effective or not. If you have any more questions or concerns, please post back and I will be happy to help you. ## thank you sooo much I wasn't sure about getting my MD change from percocet to oxycontin because theres a program that helps you pay for med if you dont have ins. Whats the difference between exalgo and opana and oxycontin? ## Hello, Dana! How are you? As listed by the FDA, all 3 of these narcotics contain a different active ingredient. Exalgo contains a time released formulation of Hydromorphone. Opana contains Oxymorphone and Oxycontin contains Oxycodone in a time released formulation. All are narcotics that carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation and dry mouth. Out of the 3, Exalgo is the strongest, next would be Opana, then Oxycontin. To give you a comparison, for each 5mg of Oxycontin, you'd only need 2.5mgs of Opana to be equivalent and 1.88mgs of Exalgo. Is there anything else I can help with?

what is the diffrence between oxycodine 5 325 mg and 7.5 325mg ## the oxycodone 5 means there is 5 mg. of oxycodone and 325 mg. of acetaminophine, with the 7.5 its 7.5 mg. of oxycodone and 325 mg. of acetaminophine ## Reb is correct. The difference is in the amount of Oxycodone in each tablet, one has 5mgs and the other 7.5mgs, but they both contain 325mgs of Acetaminophen. This is a narcotic pain reliever. Some of the most common side effects include: drowsiness, nausea, dry mouth and constipation. ## what is the difference between endocet and oxycontin?? I have a blue round pill that has an R on the top and 215 on the bottom. I cannot remember if it is my Oxycontin or the generic for it. Blue round with R and 215 is oxicodone 30mg. ## Is there any way that the R on the pill could actually be an A ? WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OXYCODONE AN OXYCOTTON? ## It would depend on what formulation of Oxycodone you are talking about. Oxycontin contains Oxycodone, but in a time released formulation, so the medication is slowly released. Roxicodone contains Oxycodone, but in a regular release formulation, this one is also available as a generic. OxyIR contains Oxycodone in an immediate release formulation and is available as a generic, as well. Is there anything else I can help with?

what is the difference between hcl cr and hcl tb 12? ## Well that is really not a commonly use, or even correct way of describing or prescribing Oxy, but it seems someone is using that to denote the different between Oxycodone Instant Release, which is a generic for Roxifast, all of the med is released in your body as once for pain alleviation, normally referred to as Oxy IR, and Oxycodone Controlled Release which is a tablet specially designed to release the drug over a 12 hour period, these are generic version of Oxycontin. So regular Oxy, the IR version, releases the full dose soon after you take the pill, these are only available in up to 30mgs, but the Oxy CR slowly releases the medication over a 12 hour period (Oxycontin) and these are available in up to 80mgs. ## Sorry, basically...

I have been in pain management for 12 yrs. I have just been changed to 10 mg roxicodone 4xs day. use to take 10 mg perocet. Plus my normal 80 mg. Oxycontin 4 per day. My question is what is the difference between 10mg roxicodone and 10mg perocet ## Hello, Suzie! How are you? Percocet contains Acetaminophen and Oxycodone, the Acetaminophen augments the action of the narcotic, so it makes it more potent and effective for some people. However, the Roxicodone only contains the Oxycodone, by itself. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Not in the least the same Roxy 10 not nearly as strong plus quick release.Oxycontin 8...

a yellowish, round (cylindrical) pill with rounded (convex) top and bottom...waxy coated with white interor, but interior has texture consistency similar to a hard gummy-bear candy. Chewing it is difficult, as tough dried-jelly-like interior is very cohesive and sticky...it tends to work its way into tooth's biting surface irregularities, and is compacted into spaces between teeth, where it can take 30 or more minutes to disolve. Taste is just like oxycodone but more subtle than Oxycontin. Not scored, smaller than a raisin, one side says OP and other side says 40. Oxycodone or Oxycontin is this time released? Or immediate release? ## There are no generic formulations available of Oxycontin, there are only generics available of the instant release and the regular release. Additionally, the instant release is only available in 5mg capsules. Thus, if you have a tablet that does not have the OP marking and it is from the U.S., then it is fairly safe to assume that's most likely a regular release tablet. This one is a generic for Roxicodone, which is a name brand for the regular release formulation and it contains 20mgs of Oxycodone. Learn more Oxycodone details here.
