I'm not sure if morning or evening is the best time to take Losartan. When should I take the medication? ## Generally, unless the instructions state otherwise, it should be taken in the morning, that way it will be working during the time of day that you are usually most active. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. I cut mine in half and take it twice a day, with my cardiologist's approval, because it works better for me that way. I am taking Losartan 100 mg and also Losartan/HCTZ 100-12.5 mg. Is this safe? Should I take them at the same time of day? I am having a problem with my kidneys. Could this be the reason? ## my pharmacist stated that it should be taken in the morning. ## Did you doctor provide you with any special instructions? It might be easier to split them up, taking one in the morning and one night. Many people prefer to take a medication with HCTZ in the morning, since it can cause increased urination as a side effect, according to the FDA, and they don't want their slumber disrupted. You should, of course, always follow your doctor's instructions, though. Yes, the one with the HTCZ could be affect your kidneys. Has your doctor done a blood panel to check? What if I took 50mg of losartan and 2 hours later accidentally took it again? What can happen? ## Hi Daisy, Sorry to hear about the mishap. In my opinion I think it would be best to notify your prescribing doctor (or poison control) of what happened so that they may be able to assist you in the event of adverse reactions, extreme hypotension, etc. If this happened to me I would also probably be monitoring my blood pressure levels frequently over the next couple days to get a better idea of how my body is responding. I took 100mg Losartan Potassium at 3pm but I think I may have taken one at 3 am also. I work shift work and I don't remember taking the 3 am dose. Will I have a problem taking a dose 12 hours apart? ## Hi Craig, From what I've researched, standard adult dosing for Losartan is considered to be anywhere from 25mg-100mg taken daily in one or two divided doses. However, the prescribing packet doesn't go on to mention any specific time intervals. Having said that, it seems to me like you're supposed to wait a full 24 hours after your last 100mg dose before taking anymore... So if you aren't sure about the time frame in which you took your last dose then I can't say there's a right or wrong answer... You may just have to be your own best judge through self monitori...

I think that I missed my dose today at 1:30, but I'm not sure? Will I be ok to wait until tomorrow to take it? Also should I wait the entire 24 hours or just take it in the morning? ## Hello, Chad! How are you? What did you end up doing? It is always best to check with your doctor regarding what you should do in such a situation, however, in some instances, it is safer to take an extra dose, rather than risk skipping one. Since missing a dose could cause dangerous rebound elevations to your heart rate and blood pressure, which could lead to heat attack, or stroke, according to the AMA. However, doubling up just once, usually only results in your experiencing more side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination, as listed by the FDA. Now, of course, there a...

I take Losartan for high blood pressure. I was also on HRT Femeston. I have stopped taking HRT and now take Dong Quai and Black Kohosh. These are suiting me but as Dong Quai will help with high blood pressure can I stop taking Losartan? ## Hello, Sarah! How are you? It would be best to continue taking it, unless your doctor approves of your stopping it. While the NIH does list that some herbs have been known to help lower blood pressure, most of them did not lower it significantly enough on their own to replace the use of actual proven prescription medications. However, a good healthy diet, with lots of proper exercise, might enable you to eventually get it under full control naturally, so you can stop taking the medication. What have your recent blood pressure levels been?

How are you? No, I am not aware of any such warning and it isn't an antibiotic or related to them. Perhaps the best question is, are you suffering any side effects or having any problems with it? That would really give you an answer right there. The normal side effects may include nausea, dizziness, stomach pain and hypotension.

Just started on Losartan , previously was on lisinopril that didnt do anything to lower BP. After 3 days on Losartan I noticed my resting heart rate in now 100+… previously was 65 to 70 on any given day.. I was told it could take 2 to 3 weeks for Losartan to fully be in my system to see a change. Will my heart rate get lower once the med takes effect or is something wrong? ## Hello, Dom! How are you? The higher heart rate could be due to stopping the Lisinopril, if you stopped abruptly and switched to the Losartan, it may have caused a rebound effect that can include elevated heart rate and elevated blood pressure. However, it is always best to check with your doctor to be sure. If the Losartan works for you, you should eventually see an improvement in your heart rate. My heart ra...
