Dilaudid is a semi synthetic keytone or Hydromorphone HCL, so it is i feel its twice the potency of morphine, short acting though. I take 70mg Methadone HCL and Dilaudid for breakthrough pain. I did also get Percocet 10/325 but after this new law he would not give me a one. I never ever felt like a dope addict but yet feel they are scrutinizing me at some pharmacies. I am sick to death and because some people are just plain ignorant they ruined many lives of good upstanding folks of all ages. If he continues to cut me down i will go to another. My mother has spinal stenosis which cases her great pain. She uses B transpatches 50. which provides no relief. What could be used as an alternative? She is 84. ## I have cervical spinal stenosis. I have used fentanyl patches and lollipops in the past to control my pain. It is very strong but can be given in very small doses and due to her age I doubt a pain specialist would give her any grief over it. Hydromorphone is approx. 5x more potent mg for mg than morphine, and is typically given as an alternative to morphine. I know Fentanyl is supposed to be stronger than Morphine however it does not help me nearly as much! I wish so bad that I could go back to MS Contin TR 100 mg three times a day with Morphine Instant 30 my PRN for break through pain. That worked so much better than Dilaudid or Fentanyl to me but I had to change doctors and now I can't get what works best! This leaves me in bed 90 % of the time! This SUCKS!!! What do you do when neither Oxycodone or Dilaudid work for severe lower back pain, due to disc & nerve damage from a fall. I have had 6 back surgerys with pins,screws and many of fusions.over the past 5 years or more have been on oxycodone 10-325 4 to5 times a day. Now with new pain management on 5-325 oxycodone 2 a day for break through and 15 mg morphine sulfate every 12 hrs. In pain consistently. I cant see that morphine 15 mg does anything for me. I was taking 40 mg oxcontin twice a day and something else for breakthrough pain. Since going on medicare supplement insurance I can't get the oxycontin through the company. I was taking dilaudid for the breakthrough pain but living, in Florida, I can't find it at all here. Does Oxcodone do as good as the morphine? I don't know that I can even get that here though. They have cracked down so much on what is dispensed in Florida that any meds is hard to get. Oxycodone in my research seems to be the next step up the latter, but some chronic pain patients may feel that Tramadol, Morphine, Opana, or Dilaudid would be better alternatives. I for one have never taken anything other than Hydrocodone and Morphine in the realm of narcotic analgesics, so I can only go off charts on the web and my own experience, which tells me that Morphine provided greater relief than Hydrocodone after a nose surgery I had done several years ago. If fentanyl is 80 times stronger than morphine would you consider it safe to drive and work on the 50mg fentanyl mylan patch? ## I would not consider this safe. And I'm sure your Dr, and the local police would agree with me. A friend of mine was recently stopped by the local police. He is on dilaudid for chronic back pain, he got a DUI. Be careful and don't take dilaudids and drive. ## It's a 50 microgram patch, not 50 milligrams, because it is very potent.
