round dark red pill ## I am itching very badly after taking thi s medicine what can i do ## It is hard to say if this is just a side effect or an allergic reaction. The only thing I can suggest is calling the prescribing doctor so the can look into and suggest a solution. You shouldn't take anymore until you speak with them!

I have Phenazopyridine for UTI. It's late and I'm feeling the urge of pain this is the only medication I can find in my counter but it has a fill date of 12/9/11. Is it safe to take? ## Hi Jessyca, How are you? From what I could gather, most medications (aside from certain antibiotics) rarely become "unsafe" to take after the expiration. The only real concern I see from something that old, is that it may not be quite as potent as it once was, potentially making it more difficult to determine what an appropriate dosage might be. However, on the contrary, the following article by Harvard explains how many medications can actually retain their potency for up to 15 years beyond the listed expiration date: health.harvard.edu/fhg/updates/update1103a.shtml So on that note I thi...

small round pinkish pill with the number 10 and lupin on it ## My urine color is an orangey/red tone after taking one pill. Is this normal? The pharmacy did not supply a side effect list. ## A round, pink tablet with Lupin on one side and 10 on the other is listed by Lupin as containing 10mgs of Lisinopril. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Andy, if you are taking Phenazopyridine, it can cause urine to be odd colored. What are the markings on the tablets you are taking?

My daughter IS TAKING SIEZURE MEDICATION, LAMICTAL. AND DILLANTAN AND STRATERRA, WILL THIS MEDICINE BE ALRIGHT TO TAKE FOR PAIN ## Hi Angela, Phenazopyridine is used to relieve the pain, burning, and discomfort caused by infection or irritation of the urinary tract. It is not an antibiotic and will not cure the infection itself. Although it may relieve some pain caused by certain urinary conditions, it is in a class of medications known as an Interstitial cystitis agent. This is in general is not a pain medication and in my opinion shouldn't be relied on if the pain is anywhere else but in the urinary tract. On another note, phenazopyridine does not interact with the other medications you mentioned, so if in fact your daughter does have pain in urinary tract, then it would be suffic...

My Dr prescribed Phenazopyridine for what we thought was a UTI. I took 1 pill and about 1-2 hrs later I got the most horrible chills where my whole body was shaking very strongly, my teeth were chattering and I was freezing. I got sever lower back pain as well as a throbbing headache. I'm in Phx where it was over 100 degree. I had this reaction once before to an OTC called Uristadt. I have not read anywhere that this medicine causes all the side effects like I have described, especially the chills where my body shook uncontrollably. Can you help identify if these effects are possible, but more rare with this medicine? Oh, and it turned out I did not have a UTI...but I had all of the symptoms that my Dr. said could have been caused by passing a kidney stone. ## No, I am not find thos...

If phenazopyridine isnt relieving the pain, can I add any other pain reliever and if so, what? ## If you are pregnant, then it's really only safe for you to get such information from your doctor. The answer can vary depending on your overall health, the stability of your pregnancy, other medications you are on and etc. It is very unsafe for anyone other than your doctor to suggest you use anything else. The wrong suggestion could place both you and your baby at risk. Have you told your doctor that it isn't working to get their advice?

Around 7pm today I started experiencing UTI like symptoms. This time last year, 2/15/16, I was also treated for a UTI and was prescribed phenazopyridine and sulfamethoxazole. I was waiting an hour while drinking glasses and glasses of water before I knew it was a UTI. Once I determined it was, I had one of each of my old prescriptions, until I can go pick up a new one tomorrow morning. However, the phenazopyridine doesn't seem to be relieving my symptoms, and the pain when I urinate is getting worse. My urine is also yellow, not orange. Even from the beginning to now. Is it because the prescription is just over a year old? Any suggestion? I'm in quite a bit of pain. ## It is hard to say, medications do lose efficacy with time, but it could also be due to a different strain of ba...

I recently had a UTI and was given Bactrim for three days and felt better. It's been almost a week and I suddenly have the symptoms back long with lower back pain. Seeing that it is almost 7:30 pm on a Sunday, I will have to wait until tomorrow morning to call and go in and see the doctor. The doctor was pleased that I stopped taking Phenazopyridine two days before going in for the urine culture to detect the UTI. Will Phenazopyridine interfere with diagnostics for a kidney infection? I would love to be able to relieve some of my symptoms before morning, but I will not if it means they will not get the proper results for the diagnostics they need. ## The only warning I've found on anything like this has to do with it interfering with urinary diagnostics for diabetics, although y...

ls Phenazopyridine 100mg available over the counter or do you have to get a Dr. to write a script for it? And is there an over the counter medication that's like Phenazopyridine? ## Yes, there is a version that is available over the counter. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, and discolored urine. However, you should be aware that this will treat the pain of a urinary tract infection, but will not do anything to eradicate the infection itself. Are you on any other medications? Is there anything else I can help with?

Have used pyridium (generic) off and on for 22 yrs. for chronic flare ups of Urethral Syndrome. Now can't hardly find it or it has gone up to $1000 for 3 mo supply. What gives and what else can I use. It is not an infection but chronic pain condition. ## Hello, Marge! How are you? I'm sorry that you're having so much trouble getting your prescription filled. The only thing I've been able to find is that there is a shortage due to manufacturing delays, which explains why it's hard to find and so expensive, when you do find it. There is one available over the counter, have you looked for it? It's sold under the brand name Uristat. Otherwise, I'm not seeing any other alternatives available. Did you ask your doctor? They might know what else would work. Side effe...

If I take BOTH, will that most likely cure my UTI? Should I take an antibiotic too? ## Has your doctor told you to take them both? The z pack is an antibiotic. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. ## Z-Pack is indeed an antibiotic and the entire course should be taken, as with any antibiotic. If not you're more like to have the infection come back in short order. The other medication, phenazopyridine is used to help the pain associated with urination. This medication can turn your urine (more often than not) orange as well as your feces (hasn't happened to me but has been reported to do this). So in answer to you question to should you take both: Absolutely take the antibiotic. Not doing s...

I'm taking Norco for an achillies injury and have developed a UTI was given Phenazopyrid for the stomach pain. Will this be to much pain meds. Will they work ok together. ## well for starters how long have you been on narco !!!have you been under guidance then" it is alright if not see physician immediately "as this narco is combination of two drugs and has severe addiction hazards as well .however the drug prescribed is a urinary antiseptic for urinary tract infections it brings down the burning and pain associated with it and will "always be given for specific period of time " do not worry but my intention is you must not get habituated to "NARCO" ## Barbara stated that she is taking NORCO for an achilles injury! What is a small round pill, w on one side blank on other may be M instead of W ## Hi Paula, Based on my research, a round brown/maroonish colored pill with a W on one side and blank on the other, is reportedly identified as a 95mg Azo-Standard (Phenazopyridine) tablet used for urinary tract pain and discomfort. Apparently it's available as an over-the-counter medication. For added verification, the National Drug Code for this particular tablet is listed as 009980015. After coming across an image of the pill online, I can easily understand how the W might've been mistaken for an M! Hope this info helps!
