I have been taking metoprolol tartrate 50 mg 2x a day for a while now, my doctor just told me to now start taking 2 tablets in the morning and 1 in the evening. I am concerned that 150 mg per day is too much. Can u tell me if this is not a safe dosage or if its ok to take that much? my blood pressure usually runs around 140/85 to 158/92 ## Hello, Rhonda! How are you? I understand your concern, that does seem to be a high amount…but it actually isn't for this medication. Metoprolol can be taken in amounts up to 450mgs a day and it is usually started at the 50mg twice daily dosing, then adjusted until the desired effect is reached, which in your case would be lower blood pressure. Normal levels are considered 120/80 and generally anything over 130/85 requires treatment. The high...

I take a pill twice a day. Is each pill 50 mg, or combined they equal 50mg? ## Hi Connie, What is the imprint on the pills that you take? There are 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg pills available. Based on your description I can only assume that they are 50mg, but would need to look up the imprint for verification. If you are taking this medication for high blood pressure, the usual dosage for metoprolol is extremely patient specific and should be individualized. The typical initial dosage of metoprolol is 100 mg daily in a single or divided dose as determined by your health care provider. The dose may then be increased weekly until the goal blood pressure is achieved. The dosage range for metoprolol is 100-450 mg per day. You should consult with your doctor to determine which dose of metoprolol ...

I just saw on t.v. that certain medications shouldn't be taken with acidic drinks. Is metoprolol Tarta 50mg one of these drugs? I am a 2-cups-a-morning coffee drinker. ## Hello, Gary! How are you? I'm not sure what you saw on TV, but I have never heard anything like that. If a medication shouldn't be taken with something due to possible interactions, such as those that may occur with grapefruit juice, there will be a warning on your prescription bottle. Do you have any other details on what you saw? Were they talking about some specific issue? ## Grapefruit juice, also wine with cheese with some medicines. You're right, I suppose I shouldn't worry if a medicine doesn't have a specific warning noted. Thanks for your response!

My pharmacy refilled my Teva Metoprolol Tartrate 50 mg with Metoprolol manufactured by Aurobindo. I've taken Teva Met Tart for 4 years with great results and no side effects. I need to be sure this pill is blood pressure medication... I found it in my purse and I am out of metoprolol tonight (prescription bottle is empty and pharmacy is closed). ## Yes, it is manufactured by Mylan Pharmaceuticals and they do list it as containing 50mgs of Metoprolol. NDC: 00378-0032 The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. In the future, it would be best to pick up a new supply, before running out, because if you don't have any for a few days, it could cause dangerous spikes in your blood pressure and heart rate, which may result in stroke, or heart attack. ## How are Metoprolol tartrate tablets supposed to look? I have been taking metoprolol tartrate 50mg for 10 plus years. Recently I have been experiencing cold feet, especially when I lay down. My heart doctor checked my blood flow to my feet and said it was normal. He then suggested the culprit could be the metoprolol tartrate 50 mg that I was taking once daily. Can you recommend a substitute to eliminate this problem? ## Hi Al, Sorry to hear about you getting "cold feet" - no pun intended though Lol. Well I looked into the side effect profile of Metoprolol and found that NIH.gov actually lists "experiencing a paleness or cold feeling in the fingers/toes" as a less common symptom associated with this medication. What should I do? I took 2 metoprolol 50mg but my dose is 1. My other meds are white and looked alike. ## It is always best to check with your doctor to be sure. Did you experience any adverse events? In most cases, doubling up just once isn't a huge problem, according to the FDA, but you may experience lower blood pressure and heart rate than usual, as well as nausea and dizziness. ## I missed my dose at 11pm but took it at 2am. Can i still take my metoprolol tartrate 25mg dose at 11 tonight? ## I've been taking Metoprolol 100 mg 1x daily and just found out that my pharmacy gave me 50mg pills which I've been taking 1x a day and only recently realized the mistake. What will happen when I start back on 100 mg tomorrow?

is there any difference between Metoprolol Tarta 50mg and Metoprolol Succ ER 50 mg? ## The succinate and tartrate just refer to the specific chemical salt that the manufactured used in their process to create the drug, however, if they are both ER, then they are the same and will work in the same manner. The ER stands for extended release, so is not a time released formulation, then there could be a difference, because a regular release formulation won't allow for the same blood pressure or cardiac control, throughout the day. Are there any other comments or questions?
