I get 300 2 mg dilaudid per month for non-healing lower leg wounds. They are extremely painful during bandage changes. Does that seem like an awful lot of pills? I've been taking them for about 7 years a d it seems that's the only thing that helps. My dose was upped this month. Can I get this new prescription filled now or do I have to wait? I hope you get some relief soon. ## Hi Gary, Post #1 is right about there being a lot of other options for pain relief; many of which are stronger than a 5mg dose of hydrocodone + 325mg of acetaminophen. If it were me, I would talk with my doctor about upping the dose of hydrocodone to 7.5mg or 10mg, since that is considered to be the "next step up" in terms of potency. From there it seems like oxycodone, opana, dilaudid, fentanyl, extended release meds, etc, are reserved for more serious or long term cases of chronic pain management.....

There doesn't seem to be much information regarding Dilaudid and it's effectiveness (which I've found to be less useful than morphine and it is said to be 5 times more potent than morphine...). Is there anywhere else to look or do most people take Opana, there seems to be a ton of information and conversation, granted not so great, on Opana. Any guidance would be appreciated. I was prescribed Dilaudid 2mg for the repair of an incisional hernia. Pain maiintenance has been a problem in as much as I cannont in the least tollerate even 2mgs of dilaudid. In the hospital was one matter. At home I was scared, felt on and off as if I were dying and very week to the point that I could barely make it to the kitchen to eat even oatmeal It would take me 10 to clean up a small kitchen spill because I was so weak. I switched to 600 mg IB and was chastised by the Advice Nurse for even considering IB and to switch immediately to Tylenol.
