For at least a year or more I've been taking pristiq (generic) and simvastatin at the same time. I felt that the pristiq was no longer working because I was so very tired all of the time. It dawned on me that maybe there was an interaction between taking simvastatin and pristiq at the same time. I took them separately at least 3 hours apart and today have more energy and as the day wore on kept felling better. I know there isn't supposed to be an interaction if you take them together, but I can't help but think there is. Has anyone else taken them at the same time and then stopped taking them together and had better results with not feeling so tired all of the time and listless? ## Hi Karen, I just wanted to add another perspective or insight into your understanding that the...

I just started on the generic Pristiq a little over a month ago and along with all the other side effects I've seen people complain about on here (headaches, jaw pain, heartburn), I'm suffering from TERRIBLE menstrual cramps! I've never had cramps like this before. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not sure the two are even related, but I start taking this and all the sudden I'm having terrible cramps, so I'm wondering if there is a correlation. ## Most medications in this class can cause such a side effect, according to NIH reports. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, and mood swings. If they become severe, or suddenly worsen, you should consult your doctor as this might not be the best medication for you. How are you doing, now? Has there ...

I was switched from Pristiq to generic Pristiq (Desvenlafaxine) which if I understand right, is really Effexor. Is there a possibility this could be causing my severe fatigue? Has this happened to anyone else out there? ## My Insurance switched me to the generic (not my choice) about 3-4 weeks ago. Depression has been creeping in and I'm pretty concerned. Yesterday/last night was bad. Today was OK but my energy is not what it should be and my thinking/mood is not where it should be. Hoping to switch back but I don't know what is happening with the insurance...there is a $1000 penalty to go back to name brand!! ## Insurance is disgusting!! I actually feel ok depression wise and the fatigue turned out to be something else. I hope you stay stable ## Thanks. I'm glad your medica...

I've been taking Pristiq for a long time, understanding there was no generic. I've even spoken to my Dr who prescribed it about a generic not having been released. Today I changed pharmacies, having provided them with my last bottle of Pristiq for all the info. I was given Desvenlaflax, showing it was generic for Pristiq. I'm confused. I'd like to know if this is actually the generic. I'm familiar with Desvenlafaxine but never heard of what I've now been given. Also I know some generics are not as effective as the brand name. If you have any information concerning the efficacy, please provide. ## That is Desvenlafaxine, they just abbreviated it on this refill. The only way to see how it will work for you is by trying it to see. The FDA lists the typical side effe...

I have started taking pristiq about 6 weeks ago and I have noticed in the last week or so that I have been extremely fatigued. Could this be due to the pristiq? ## Pristiq contains the active ingredient Desvenlafaxine, it is an SNRI class antidepressant and yes, it can cause drowsiness and fatigue as a side effect. Generally, side effects should hit their peak around 4 to 6 weeks of use, the time it usually takes for a medication to reach its full effectiveness in the body. After that, they should start to taper off in severity, as your body gets used to the medication. However, if it is a severe problem, then you should contact your doctor, as this may not be the right medication for you. Hi all, I have been on Pristiq for 5+ years. Soon after I began, I started dealing with night sweats. Not just mild sweat - I'm talking my PJs and sheets are drenched. It is awful! The night sweats have come and go over the years but are currently very bad. I can't seem to get much information on the internet about this side effect being an issue for many people. Has anyone else experienced night sweats from taking Pristiq? ## Hi Erin, According to the manufacturer, sweating is actually one of the most common side effects people experience from taking Pristiq (Desvenlafaxine). However, nih.gov happens to list "sweating" as both a 'general' and 'serious' side effect here: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a608022.html Have you already made your doctor ...

I have been on Pristiq for over a year to combat hot flashes. Getting off of this little pill is about to kill me - why didn't anyone tell me how hard it is to stop taking Pristiq? ## Have you consulted your doctor? Our bodies will get used to any medication we take for a long period of time and a sudden cessation can cause some withdrawal symptoms. Since this contains the active ingredient Desvenlafaxine, which is an SNRI antidepressant, its effects on brain chemicals can also also cause redound effects, such as anxiety and depression, even if that's not what you were taking it to treat. It usually requires a slow taper, to discontinue it and prevent the worst of the associated problems.

My Doctor has changed my prescription from Pristiq to Citalopram. She says there is no difference in the 2 drugs other than the price. I am unsure whether to change medicine. ## That is not entirely true, though they both are used to treat the same conditions. Pristiq contains Desvenlafaxine, this is a Selective Seratonin, Norephinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor. The Citalopram only acts on Seratonin. Many people, however, can use either one, though some people do need the added benefits of the SSNRI. Did she give a reason for why she is switching them? You can read more about them here: ## She changed the medication, due to the Pristiq not working like she thought it would.

Quoted below are the precautions you should be aware of: "Talk to your doctor before using dextromethorphan together with desvenlafaxine.
