Concerta Methylphenidate

Methylphenidate, sold under the brand name Ritalin and Concerta among others, is a stimulant drug used to treat attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. It is a first-line medication for ADHD. It may be taken by mouth or applied to the skin, and different formulations have varying durations of effect.[1] It is also used recreationally as a performance-enhancer and/or as a euphoriant.[5] Common side effects of methylphenidate include: anxi...

I need to know what the difference is with the two sides on the inside of a Concerta 36? Is it 2 separate drugs that make it what it is because I was told one side was the actual methylphenidate and the other side was a blood pressure drug? Someone know is addicted to abusing pills or anything else it seems and I told him to not to misuse this pill, because I was also told it could kill a person if it's taken the wrong way. Can someone help me explain this pill to him so he can read for himself from someone else what's exactly going on because he thinks I'm joking about it and I just don't want him to die for making the wrong decision. Seriously as fast as you can possibly respond would be helpful. Thank you for your time in advance. ## Hello, Lee! How are you? No, there...

I've been taking Amphetamine Salts 30mg for about 2 years, this had been great for the depression but it sur- pressed my appetite and effected my taste buds so drastically, I had no interest in food whatsoever. Then my physician suggested concerta ER, but that didn't seem to do much for my depression. ## Well neither of them are actual antidepressants, they are actually stimulant medications that are normally used to treat conditions such as ADHD and narcolepsy. Learn more Amphetamine Salts details here. Learn more Concerta details here. So, it's normal for them to cause appetite suppression, but they don't usually help much with depression, because they can cause irritability, so that will actually backfire in some people. Have you tried any actual antidepressants?

Can I take 2-18mg of Concerta to equal my 36mg. I ran out of my 36mg and I have 4 18mg from previous script ## Hello, Lois! How are you? Yes, that should be fine, as long as your doctor approves. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, nervousness and insomnia. This medication also carries the risk of being habit forming. Is there anything else I can help with?

I had a question about refilling Concerta. I live in Washington State and have been taking Concerta for about four years. It works wonderfully. However, I know that there are no "refills". You have to get a new prescription every thirty days. My doctor told me to contact him when I'm down to a 4-5 day supply. I do it, and he refills the prescription usually the same day. I go to the pharmacy to pick it up, usually only 25 days since my previous fill of 30. Am I missing something? Aren't refills on Schedule II drugs supposed to be really strict? I'm glad I can get them refilled early because of my crazy work schedule and the fact I inevitably lose 1 or 2 pills each month down the sink or into the toilet. I just don't want the pharmacy to say "Your Busted! No m...

Our 17 year old is taking 54 mg of Concerta 1x a day. The past few weeks she has been/had weepy, irritable, dizzy, headaches, increased sweating, trouble sleeping and loss of appetite/nausea. She spikes with extreme anger and just seems to be much more agitated. Are these symptoms of her dose being too high? She has been on this dosage for over a year? Concerta has been given to her for almost 2 yrs. Thanks! ## Hello, Jennifer! How are you? Yes, it could be, unless you have reasons to suspect that she may be doing some other type of drug. Another alternative could be hormonal changes, she is at the right age for another shift in them to occur. Has her doctor been consulted?

I been on methylphenidate now for 7 years my psychiatrist has been prescribing it to me now for 7 years and for me taking concerta is like putting on a pair of shiny clean glasses and I can see more clearly. I was on 36mg concerta and thought I might ask my dr to drop the dose to see if I could get more out of it and I did I have now been on 27mg concerta and I have noticed a massive improvement I'm not so jittery, impulsive, don't talk as much as I used to, my behaviour is more mature and I feel so proud of myself. It's been 4 months now on the dose drop fr 36mg to 27mg and i feel more like myself again and the concerta helps me to focus concentrate and function with my add ## Wow, Claudia! I AM LOOKING TO HEAR FROM SOME ADULTS AND HOW THEY ARE DOING ON THIS MED. I SEEM TO BE TIRED AND AGITATED ALL THE TIME. ANY SUGGESTIONS? ## Have you talked to your dr? Maybe he has some suggestions. ## I tried this recently because my insurance wouldn't pay for Nuvigil. I had horrible side effects. It was given to me because of lethargy from extreme depression. I felt like I had flu-like symptoms, stomach pain, headache and went right to bed until it was out of my system. Nuvigil is nasty as well but less symptoms. ## When they took darvocet off the market i was lost; pain and couldn't concentrate or finish anything i started was diagnosed w/ ADD at age 8 but would not take the pills dont no wat they were-but now im 43 and i am addicted to pain pills (cant function w/o them) but...

I had the sink full of dishes and dropped my daughter's pills everywhere. .. thought I had found them all but apparently one pill fell in the dish water... I washed and dried the dishes before I realized the pill was in the dish water. Should I be re washing all those dishes again? ## Hello, Ladygem! How are you? It is highly unlikely that with the dish detergent and drying any of the medication would be on them in enough amounts to affect anyone. It wouldn't hurt to give them an extra rinse to be safe, if you prefer, though. I will also add that I am not a doctor, so it's always best to double check such information to be careful. You may want to make sure that you inform her doctor of what happened, to ensure she doesn't run out early, before her next refill is due. Th...

Any opinions on which is bettet for add ## Hello, Irock7! How are you? You will get opinions on both sides of the fence for both. What it really comes down to is each individual person and what works best for them, since we are all different. What works well for one person may not work at all for you and vice-versa. I have ADD , as a child I could not even get out of bed to go out and play,I was called a dummy all my life until I started to take desoxyn after I was forced to drop out of school.I was about 18. Once I started this wonder drug my whole world opened up. I excelled at everything I tried it was as though a curtain was opened up for me.I just could not learn as others do and still can't. However everyone who meets me thinks I have gone to college. I have been taking concerta 36 x 3 daily for some years now and at this point Its not working.I asked my Dr who I have been seeing for 30 years If he would give me a RX for the desoxyn. He did however I'm thinking this is going to be a problem because one pharmacy has already told me they will not get the medication. What the heck is it w...

I am close to going mad. I cannot concentrate and my hands want stop moving. please put me in touch with soneone who can help. I cannot cope anymore. ## Uncontrollable shaking of a part of your body, is listed as a side effect of Modalert (Modafinil), among a long list of other adverse effects. You may wish to take a look at this side effect list to know what you may be dealing with here: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0000196/#a602016-sideEffects It sounds to me like the side effects are outweighing any possible benefits from taking the medication. Have you consulted a certified medical doctor about these unpleasant side effects? If not, I would strongly recommend that you do, or in other cases, simply try to taper off the medication slowly. I hope this helps!

I am currently on urbanol, 1 tablet in the morning. I have just been put on concerta as well, also 1 tablet in the morning. Would these 2 tablets not contradict each other as the 1 is a tranquiliser and the other a stimulant. How would I take them, and which 1 should be taken first. ## Hi Sharon, Based on my research there are no drug interactions found between Urbanol and Concerta. This does not necessarily mean no interactions exist, but my sources state that every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is accurate. That said, there shouldn't be any issues taking these two drugs at the same time. As far as a dosing schedule goes, the order in which you take them also should not be a factor, since they have no interactions with each other. It then becomes a ma...

My 9 yr old son has been diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive, Anxiety and ADHD. we tried Adderall and while that worked for a while we had to stop because of side effects. He now takes Seroquel and Zoloft. They are working great for the OCD and Anxiety. We tried concerta for the ADHD and he turned into the incredible hulk within an hour of taking it. Does anyone know if the Daytrana patch works the same with the same side effects as Concerta? ## Yes, it is the same active ingredient, so the side effects would be essentially the same, instead of taking a pill, Daytrana just gives you a time released patch.

what is the washout period when changing from concerta to dexedrine ## zero, I switched and one day i was on concerta the next I was dexedrine. No bad effects they are two different stimulants. I did, however, learn that methylphenidate (ritalin/concerta) are safer in overall neural functioning then amphetamines (dexedrine and adderal). If they are taken together, in smaller safe doses the methylphenidate can actually prevent some of the damage caused to the neurons by the amphetamine

I have been on 54mg of Concerta for Major Depressive Disorder since 2010. This medication has been fundamentally beneficial to managing my depression. I am about to start trying to conceive for my first child and my dr has suggested I come off this medication for the pregnancy. I want to try this but at the same time am concerned about if I will be able to function off it. I want the best for my baby (if I'm lucky enough to fall pregnant). I wanted to hear from anyone who as come off this medication for pregnancy OR remained on it during pregnancy. I'd really love to hear what effects you experienced and if you remained on it, what effects has it had to your baby? Did you take it during breast feeding? I would be greatful for any information. Thank you

I have a 14 y/o son and a 13 y/o daughter that are both on 54 mg of Concerta and Strattera. My daughter is doing very well, but my son is not good on his meds. ## My 5 yo son was on 54 mg of Concerta and it didn't seem to be working so the doctors put him on 30 mg or ritalin and that seems to be helping a little bit but he is still very hyper and still has a problem staying on task for longer than 15 mins, but he also has bipolar disorder. I never thought that they could diagnos a child that young but i am glad that i had him tested because it is helping a little bit but not as much as I thought that it would. ## First I would like to state this is only my opinion based on personal experiences and various observations. How are you feeling? Yes, that is normal and it should pass, as your body gets used to the medication. If it doesn't, then you should consult your doctor. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, nervousness, anxiety and insomnia. Is there anything else I can help with?
