Recently, I suffered a severe allergic reaction to Bactrim DS, with itchy hives and welts all over my entire body not to mention I have bone cancer. I'm trying to find out what Bactrim is made from to protect myself from possible allergic reactions to any certain plant?tree?etc...what is Bactrim derived from? Mold?Grass? Or????? Thanks~ ## Hello, TRay! How are you? I understand your concern, but a medication is a fully refined form of whatever natural substance it is composed of, so you can't match the allergies that way. For example, I am highly allergic to mold, but I can take most antibiotics without a problem, though many are derived from molds. I am taking Bactrim DS for an infection cellulitis due to a cut on my leg. Is this the right antibiotic given to me? ## Hi Marie, Based on my research, Bactrim DS is used for treating cellulitis infection. If I can recommend anything else to help the healing process, it would be to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and look into supplements that will boost your immune system. A good anti inflammatory supplement is Echinacea Goldenseal. Also, Tea Tree and Lavender essential oils are very good for skin related infections because they are anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. If you decide to try any of my suggestions, make sure you do plenty of your own research! I hope this helps!

I have taken amlodipine and lisinopril for a few years. I recently got a staff infection and my Dr prescribed bactrim. I have heard not to take bactrim with lisinopril. Is this true? ## Hello Sally, You are absolutely right! Lisinopril has been reported to have a negative interraction with trimethoprim (Bactrim). I have some sort of infection on my left elbow. I have been on bactrim for 36 hours and the redness and swelling have went 4 to 6 inches further than it was. How long will bactrim take to decrease the swelling and redness? ## The general rule for antibiotics is that if they are working, you shouldn't see any worsening after taking them for a full 24 hours, and you should start to see improvement after taking them for a full 72 hours, according to NIH reports. Thus, if this is continuing, you should return to your doctor, as you may need to try a different antibiotic. The FDA lists the typical side effects of most antibiotics as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash. Has there been any change?
