I take one Advil PM almost every night to sleep. I also take an Aleve gel ievery morning for aches and pains, because I find that the Aleve Gel works better for my aches ## They really shouldn't be combined, since they both contain NSAIDs, the Ibuprofen in the Advil PM and the Naproxen in the Aleve. However, it really depends o how close together you are taking them. If they are being taken 8 to 10 hours apart, then there really shouldn't be any severe problems. Both of them can irritate your stomach, though, so you may experience some problems with that, but that would also result if you were just taking one of them and not 2 different ones. Are there any other comments or questions? ## So I took an alieve at like 7:30 and I want to take a Advil PM and its 8:30 is that a problem?

Is it ok to take these two meds together? Any major side effects from this combination? ## Hello, Karen! How are you? They should not be taken together, without your doctor's approval. According to the FDA listed interactions, Aleve can reduce the efficacy of Lisinopril and combining them could also affect kidney function. Additionally, NSAIDs are not always safe for people with high blood pressure/cardiac conditions, due to the fact that they can elevate blood pressure and cause fluid retention. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am allergic to dyes and it is so difficult to find pm pain relief ## Hello, Vickie! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. The PM pain relief formulas only contain the relevant medication, such as Acetaminophen (Tylenol PM), Ibuprofen (Advil PM) or Naproxen (Aleve PM) accompanied with Diphenhydramine (Benadryl). Thus, if your doctor approves, you could most likely find dye free versions of both of them and just take them separately. I know that many Acetaminophen tablets are available as just white tablets with no dyes, plus Benadryl has a dye free formulation available specifically for people with such allergies. The FDA lists the typical side effects of these medications as possibly include dizziness, drowsiness, nausea and stomach irritation. Is there ...

Why are some Aleve round and others oval? ## Hello, Jillann! How are you? Because the shape doesn't actually mean anything. That is entirely up to the whit and whim of the manufacturer. Aleve contains the active ingredient Naproxen Sodium, which is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory that's used to treat pain, fever and swelling. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and stomach irritation. This medication may be contraindicated with some medical conditions and/or medications. Is there anything else I can help with? ## The round ones I believe last 8-12hours and the ovals I believe are 6-8 hours

Both are NSAIDS but are there any advantages to taking one over the other with regard to long term use? i.e. kidney damage or other long term effects. ## Not really, both the Naproxen in the Aleve and the Ibuprofen in the Advil carry the same types of possible risks and benefits. What you really have to decide on is which one works best for you and if your doctor says it is safe for you to use such a medication. However, you do generally need to take less of the Naproxen than you do of the Ibuprofen to get the same effects. Are there any other questions?

If excedrin pm and aleve are combined, what happens ## It depends on the amount that is combined. Large amounts of it could cause severe organ damage and/or a fatal overdose. However, a normal dose will usually just result in upset stomach, headache, vomiting and stomach irritation. You may also get really drowsy and dizzy. In general, they really shouldn't be combined, because you are combining medications that all do the same things, so it isn't necessary. The Excedrin PM contains Acetaminophen and Diphenhydramine: and the Aleve contains Naproxen: Also, combining them regularly can result in organ damage, or stomach conditions such as ulcers and gastritis. Have you been combining them? ## I accidently took 2 advil pm's and then 1 hour leter took 2 aleves ## I got confused ...

I'm taking clonezapam (1 and a half) and 2 1/2 trazadone for sleep. Because I suffer from bursitis, I also take an Aleve. Will this harm my body? Thanks for your help ## Hello, Eileen! How are you? You shouldn't take the Trazodone with the Aleve, they increase the toxicity of each other, which could be dangerous. From what I can find, the only over the counter pain reliever you could take with it is Acetaminophen/Tylenol, so you may want to ask your doctor about taking it. Is there anything else I can help with?

A dark blue oval shape pain pill ## Are there any markings on it? That is what would enable it to be identified. If there are no markings, it is most likely something that's available over the counter and, if that is the case, then the most commonly available oval, blue tablet would be a generic or store brand of Aleve that contains Naproxen. I'm having back pain and took a 15 mg meloxicam after having taken 3 Aleve 1 hour prior. Should I be concerned about interaction of two? ## Hello, Mary! How are you? These are both classified by the FDA as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories, so you shouldn't double up, you should stick with one or the other in the recommended dosage amounts and intervals. Taking them together increases the risk of bleeding, stomach ulceration and similar conditions. Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness and headache. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I was instructed by my orthopedic dr to take two Aleve in the morning and two Aleve at night. How does this compare to taking one 15 mg Meloxicam a day?

I recently bought percogesic for a severe back injury as instructed by my doctor. He also told me to take aleve. Does this mean I should be taking them both or just one or the other? I tried just the percogesic annd it didn't help much. Is it safe to take them both at the same time? ## Hi amanda, Based on my research there are no drug interactions found between the active ingredients in Percogesic and Aleve. This does not necessarily mean no interactions exist, but my sources state that every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is accurate. That said, "in my opinion", it is safe to take these medications together, since they are not reported to interact with each other. As far as dosing goes, I would continue what your doing and take both as prescrib...

Can I take 2 aleve and 2 Tylenol at the same time for pain. Is there any benefit to doing this? Are there any adverse reactions with taking both at the same time? ## Hello, Steve! How are you? That's not advisable, though you may get more benefit by alternating them every 8 hours, if your doctor approves. However, for pain, the best to try first would probably be the Aleve, since it is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory that can help with both pain and swelling, while the Acetaminophen doesn't help much with swelling, which can easily worsen someone's pain. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach irritation and increased risk of bleeding. I took 2 Aleve, then 3 - 4 hours later, 1Motrin. Should I be worried? ## Hello, Worrywort! How are you? Did you experience any adverse effects? This combination most likely won't do more than cause nausea and stomach pain, but it may be dangerous for some people with certain health conditions or who are on certain prescription medications. But they are both NSAIDs, so it's essentially doubling up on the same medication and should be avoided in the future.

Where can I buy ALEVE PM?? I am unable to locate it in the Alabama ared. I talked to Bayer customer service and was informed they do not make a PM pill. ## Based on my research, Aleve PM is not on the market as of writing this; only Advil PM in that regard. The manufacturer's website also verifies this on their product page. Have you considered trying Advil PM (diphenhydramine + ibuprofen)?
