The medication your inquiring about called Ativan (Lorazepam) is in fact used to relieve anxiety. It works by slowing activity in the brain to allow for relaxation. I don't know what types of reviews are out there for this medication, but I'd probably suggest playing it safe and going the natural route. Reason being is that this drug is addictive and based on your description, it sounds to me like your friend may still be recovering from addictive medications. I have been tapering off of Ativan (name brand) 2 mg per day going on 8 days now. The cost is one big reason I decided to do so (now $700 for a one months supply) and also I would like to be set free from this. I have been on this medication for over 25+ years. Has anyone had success getting completely off of this medication? Do you recommend something else to replace it that would be a safer choice. My psychiatrist prescribed me 1mg of Ativan as well as 2 mg of Risperdal. Everything that I've read says you shouldnt take them together. I took my Risperdal about an hour ago but I'm having panic attacks. is it safe to take the ativan? ## I took those 2 medications together for about 8 months and never had any problems. If I take 0.5 mgs of Ativan every night before bed, is it safe to take 5/325 hydrocodone-acetaminophen when I get my tooth pulled out? They do tend to cause depression of the central nervous system, according to FDA reports, so yes, there is a risk of your experiencing shallow breathing, lowered heart rate, and lowered blood pressure. It really depends on what is safe for you, and only a physician can advise you on that. If you are very sensitive to medications, it might be best for you to stop the Ativan, while taking the Norco. I've been on 1mg Ativan for at least 15 years that I take at night before bed. I tried to quit a couple of years ago and ended up in the doctors office 2 days later only to learn I can't just stop taking it. I'm just thankful I didn't take 3 a day as prescribed. What is the best way to stop taking this medication? ## Check out the Ashton manual. Unfortunately benzodiazepines surprise patients with how difficult they can be to withdraw and most prescribers don't give informed consent. After my Sinuplasty surgery 2 days ago I was given a scrip for 10 tabs of Percocet 5 -325 to be taken 1-2 every 4-6 hours as needed. I also have scrip for Ativan EQ .5mg. I have fibromyalgia. Has anyone ever taken tramadol when they were on gabapentin, zoloft, and lorazepam? ## Hi, Yellowrose. The only thing with the meds you listed is taking the tramadol with Zoloft as they both work on the serotonin receptors and they may cause a serotonin reaction....or toxicity. I can't remember the exact name for it.....my brain froze on that one.....look it up though. The side effects of this include confusion, anxiety and some other aspects of this combo in which you should visit your ER if any of the side effects appear....especially the confusion. Hi there ,I am going for a Ultra Sound guided Breast Core Needle Biopsy tomorrow after noon. The doctor had prescribed me 2 tablets of Ativan at .5 mg each. I had taken two before, and nothing happened. There was no drowsiness, nothing. I am extremely terrified about tomorrow, and need something for pain and anxiety. Would it be safe to take the 2 tabs (1 mg) of Ativan before bed, and the cyclo at 10mg right before the procedure? ## I wouldn't change what you are taking before the procedure, without checking with your doctor. Some medications may not be safe to have in your system, along with any medications they may use, such as anesthetics. Have you talked to your doctor about it?

I am having to take 6-8 2 mg Kolonopins just to feel any benefit at all, what do I do? ## I think what you have to do is change benzo for awhile like ativan or zanix. or do another drug like an opiate for awhile till you tollerance come down. I was doing realtively well at 50mg for about 3-4 weeks, All of a sudden the med pooped out on me and I found myself taking ativan everyday to compensate. My doc intitially told me to take half of a 50mg pill. My pharmacist told me not to do that s it is time released. Instead we upped the dosage to a full 100mg.
