I had a gastric bypass in 2001. I have anemia now and someone told me that in order for iron to be absorbed, there must be presence of acid in stomach. After bypass there is no gastric acid present. Is this true? Has anyone else had this problem? And if so, how is it treated ## If there were no gastric acid, then you would not be able to digest and absorb any food/nutrients. I suggest you speak to your doctor. ## You have plenty of acid. Enough that acid ate thru my staple line, ate 6 holes in my pouch and stomach, and I take 3 Rx of antacids. ## From what I've read, iron does need gastric acid to be absorbed. The way my surgeon explained it (14 years ago), the part of the stomach used to make the pouch is less elastic and produces less acid. And, my GI doctor said the bypassed part...

I was diagnosed with anemia following a recent blood test. I was given ferrous sulphate tablets to increase my iron levels. When I started them, and for the first time, I got really bad flatulence and belching, which felt that it was started from below my stomach (it smelt and tasted like that!) As it was so antisocial, I stopped taking the tablets, and the problem went away. The only trouble is that, now, if I eat anything which is iron rich (like red meat), I get the same problem. Is there anything I can do to stop these embarrassing outbursts, other than not eating iron-rich foods?

Tablets to cure anemia ## Ferrous sulfate is the correct name. Basically it is a supplemental form of Iron Salts. You can view more info in the link below... Obviously iron or iron absorption is lacking in the diet. If you want to avoid pills, you should naturally eat more iron rich foods, like spinach, hemp seeds, watermelon, and MANY more. Also try to eat more kiwi for their high vitamin C content. It is much higher than oranges and will help with iron absorption issues. There are a vast number of other foods with similar properties to help you naturally if this is the route you choose to take. Please post back if you have any other questions or comments to add.

Yellow round pill with 210 on one side and I G on the other side. ## I will keep looking for this, however, I cannot find anything that meets this description and has this marking, or something similar, in our prescription drug resources. There are several prescription medications marked with the IG, so that leads me to believe that this is a prescription medication, but it could be something manufactured for use outside of the U.S. Was it found in the U.S. or elsewhere? ## The pill which you have described is a vitamin - Folic Acid 1 mg (vitamin B9) [1]. It is found naturally in certain foods such as beans, peas, liver, beets, broccoli and is usually supplemented to treat anemia and folic acid deficiency. I have been taking 200 mg. of riboflavin for 6 days. I developed a rash on my arms thats has now spread to my legs and back. Small red bumps that look like welps. I haven't taken any for 3 days. could this be the cause of my rash? If so how long will it last? It is extremely uncomfortable. ## Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) in and of itself is not reported to pose risk of side effects. Depending on the brand you're taking, it could very well be that you are reacting to one or more of the inactive ingredients or fillers within each tablet. Deficiency of riboflavin is not common in the United States because this vitamin is plentiful in the food supply. Symptoms of a severe deficiency include: Anemia Mouth or lip sores Skin disorders Sore throat Swelling of mucus membranes Because riboflav...
