My GP puts me on Tramahexal SR 100 twice daily for severe lower back pain- how long does it take to have any effects 1 hour, 2 hours ? ## Hello, Maruis! How are you? No, it should start working within 15 to 20 minutes of taking and then the medication is slowly released over a period of 12 hours to help alleviate your pain. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. is voltaren sr the same as diclofenac ec ## Hello, Frank! How are you? No, they are not the same going by that. The SR stands for sustained release, meaning that it is a time released formulation of the medication, but the EC just means that it is enteric coated, to help prevent it doing damage to your stomach, but there is nothing that designates it as being time released. Is there anything else I can help with?

Just trying to find out what the PUR on my oxycodone bottle means. I'm guessing it's a form of sustained release, but just wanted to know the medical terminology. Thanks! ## That stands for the manufacturer, which in this case would be Purdue Pharma. since i didn't have 500 mg in stock i cut 1000mg into half and gave to my mom then in the morning i saw on the cover that it shouldn't be cut, crush or chew the tablet and to swallow the whole....so was worried abt that ## Did she have any problems with it? The SR stands for sustained release, which means it is a time released formulation, so cutting or crushing it could cause someone to get too much of the medication, at once. This could result in severely lowered blood sugar and other medication complications. However, if she suffered no ill effects, you shouldn't have any reason to worry, but you should check with her doctor to be certain.

I was looking for information and discounts on Potassium chloride SA 10 meq CR capsules and only found info on Potassium chloride ER. What is the difference? What does the SA mean? ## These are all just abbreviations that designate it as being a time released formulation, the CR stands for controlled release, SA stands for Sustained Action, and ER stands for Extended Release. There are actually many different abbreviations that are used, but they all mean the same thing. Unfortunately, this results in a lot of confusion for many doctors and patients. If you read the NIH research studies, you will see that such large doses of potassium cannot be taken in just one dose due to how harsh they are on the stomach, thus all such prescription tablets are time released. The harshness is also why...

what are the differences between gluconorm sustained release and 500mg aand extended release ## There would actually be no different in these, both sustained release and extended release mean the same thing, that it's a controlled release formulation of the medications. Rather than releasing the medications, all at once, as regular tablets do, there are specially made to slowly release over time to help better control your blood sugar.
