Is there any difference between sulfameth/tmp ds tab and Sulfameth Tmp ss Tab? If so what are they What does the extention ds versus ss mean anyway? ## The DS stands for double strength, because it has double the amount of the active ingredients as was in the original formula. However, the only thing I am aware of concerning prescriptions that use SS is a sliding scale, meaning the dosage is half or less than the original, so I am not sure if that's what this means, or not. Since your child is borderline on this age requirement, I'd question why the doctor decided to choose this drug over less riskier options? I am allergic to Sulfa and I was perscribed Sulfameth/TMP DS for a kidney infection. ## I'd suggest contacting your doctor for an alternative medication. As is designated by the Sulfamethoxazole in this antibiotic, it is Sulfonamide based and has been known to cause reactions in patients with Sulfa allergies, so it is listed as being contraindicated for such people. I had an allergic reaction one day ago taking sulfamethoxazole and today I took one pill of loratadina ## Help, Alejo! How are you? I didn't find any interactions or problems listed between these two medications, but you should double check with your doctor or pharmacist to be certain. Sometimes doctors choose one antibiotic over another, because they know has been proven more effective at treating certain infections. For instance, while it is a broad spectrum antibiotic of the Cephalosporin class, Cefdinir has been proven most effective at treat infections of ear, sinus, throat and skin. Is there anything that works naturally as antibiotic ; such as a leaf or something, in case things get bad!!!! ## Yes frederick there are plenty of natural antibiotics and with a bit of searching you might just find something to supplement your existing diet. Of course i am not saying to stop the meds that a doctor has put you on, but look into a few things like oil of oregano, other probiotics such as yogurt or culturelle supplement, etc. And there are tons of other essential oils with antiseptic properties.
