ER meaning extended release--What is the ingredient used to make the medicine ER? ## There is really no specific ingredient that can be mentioned. When a medication is time released, it has to do with its formulation. For example, the FDA lists some of them as using a sponge like substance, once you swallow it, stomach acid, and other fluids you drink are slowly absorbed and this forces the medication to be slowly released. In some cases, if you look closely, you will see 2 little areas on the pill that are thinner than the rest of the pill to allow this to occur, and then the shell of the pill is expelled as body waste. This is just one method that is used to make a medication time released, there are several others. What specific medication were you asking about? If you can post back ...

On my sleeping pills it says "Apo-Zopiclone"... Then in brackets on the prescription label it says GLA. My question is, what does APO mean...and what does GLA mean? Thank you. ## What's APO 37.5/25 on my sleep medications stand for ## In Canada, and some other countries, medications are often listed according to manufacturer, and name of the actual chemical, so in this case, the APO stands for the manufacturer Apotex. The GLA stands for the distributor, since Apotex licenses their products to several companies for dissemination across the country. The 37.5/25 is the designated dosage of the substances in the relevant medication. Zopiclone may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, sleep actions, and next day hangover-like effects. Is there anything else I can help wi...

Hello, I have been taking Norco 10/325 for several years for my back pain. When I would miss a day or two my heart would race and I could not sleep this last month I had lost my prescription while on vacation and had been without them for a week and felt no anxiety at all just my pain, now that I think about it I have realized that my pain level had really not been reduced for several months the pill says 10/325 t I'm wondering whats up with these pills??? ## Hello, Eric! How are you? If you've been taking it for several years, it might be that your body has just become tolerant to this dose and you may need to try a different medication. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dr...

What would be the effects of taking hydrocodone, mirtazapine, salsalate, and cyclobenzaprine? ## Is it safe for me to be taking 2x 2.5 olanzapine, 2-3 cloral betaine, 8x30mg codeine phosphate, 1x 150mg viepax XL, 2x10mg oxazepam. In a day. I'm having very bad anxiety and difficulty sleeping, mixed with periods of bad depression. I have recently been on diazepam (which i didnt like), the doctor has taken me off of 20mg temazepam and 30-40mg oxazepam. I would like to know if the combination I am on now is safe to take together, any ideas?? thanks ## Hi Nic, There are actually "moderately" unsafe drug interactions found between the following medications: Cyclobenzaprine + Hydrocodone Cyclobenzaprine + Mirtazapine Hydrocodone + Mirtazapine Meaning that it may be wise to contact ...

What is the safest and quickest method to stop taking Trazodone? ## My daughter has been taking trazodone for 2.5 years at 150 mg. Can you just stop taking it or do you have to be weaned off? If you just stop will there be risks? ## Trazodone is an SARI antidepressant, so it works on brain chemicals, which means an abrupt cessation of it could result in some withdrawal symptoms and a rebound effect. The rebound effect is usually the biggest problem, because it may result in symptoms that are worse than what someone was taking it to treat. Learn more Trazodone details here. Thus, a slow gradual taper, under the supervision of a physician, is the best and safest way to stop these types of medications. Are there any other questions or comments? Hi, I have had a bladder infection and taken only 4 amoxils cause i only had 4, it went away, but this morning it came back and with blood. I get the urge to pee, its very painful and my pee is blood red. Help? What does this mean? ## Hello, Nani! How are you? It sounds like you didn't have enough antibiotic to fully eradicate the infection. You need to see your doctor for a new prescription of antibiotics to try and clear this up. Blood in your urine can happen, with a severe infection. There's also a slight risk you may have something more serious going on, such as kidney stones, so you need to have this checked out. The FDA lists the typical side effects of antibiotics as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything el...

Am in central FL & just lost my pain dr. after 10 yrs. I have several intractable pain conditions which means without pain medication I simply would be bedridden & slowly die. I have attempted to establish a new dr. to maintain my pain relief but have been turned away from over 10 now-not to mention the others whom my primary sent records to & they simply denied even an appointment for me. Am wheelchair bound & in extremely obvious pain (deformed arms, knees, back) but here apparently drs. licenses are more important than treating patients. I was actually told by one specialist he wouldn't write me prescriptions because he not want to lose his license. Others simply made excuses why they couldn't take me as a patient client. I had no problems until sept2012 then ...

Hi, I know this may sound like a stupid question but I have suffered from Opiate-Induced Constipation for 15 years and have followed several different VA doctors recommendations, none of which really worked or else the VA pharmacy would fill their recommended prescription. My civilian doctor got me approved for Linzess which I have read great things about. By inpacted, I think it means where the stool is backed up and is blocking evacuation but now I am thinking that since opiates cause slow transit of stool through the G.I. tract, that might be the inpaction they are talking about. I have never had a complete evacuation of my G.I. tract (colon), only partial. So which is it? The inpaction around the evacuation point or up through the colon? ## Hello Lartomar, According to Harvard Healt...

The first time I received a prescription for dexilant, it was a very tiny all blue capsule. When I renewed the prescription it was a blue and grey capsule that is slightly larger but both were 30 mg. Why are they different? ## Because they way a medication looks actually means nothing, it is entirely up to the manufacturer. Since it is also illegal to copy the trademarked product from another company, they each have to make them look different. Imprints also have to be different from on company to the other, to identify the drug, dose and manufacturer, in case of emergency. The new ones that you received have just been made by a different company. Sometimes, even the look of name brand pills change, when the company decides to redesign them Do you have any other questions? ## Dexilant i...

Is there any difference between sulfameth/tmp ds tab and Sulfameth Tmp ss Tab? If so what are they What does the extention ds versus ss mean anyway? ## The DS stands for double strength, because it has double the amount of the active ingredients as was in the original formula. However, the only thing I am aware of concerning prescriptions that use SS is a sliding scale, meaning the dosage is half or less than the original, so I am not sure if that's what this means, or not. Learn more Bactrim details here. Is anyone else familiar with the SS and what it stands for?

What does SO4 mean in the prescription label and the SA at the end? ## WHAT DOES S04 AND SA MEAN ON A 100MG MORPHINE ## SA is abreviatd latin term, that basically translates to, int he art of the pharmacy. Its an order froma doctor to the pharmacy to prepare pills in the way in which the pharmacy does it. ## Actually, the SA or SO4 means it's a Sulfate, the actual name of the drug is Morphine Sulfate. Does anybody know any prescription strength sleep aids that are stronger than Melatonin? I have been using at least 10 mg Melatonin a night at bedtime for a few years but it isn’t working like it used to. Keep in mind this is when needed and I would talk to my doctor about this once I have a list related towards this. ## I am 89 and have used Ambien, 5 mg. dose for years, with no bad side effects. It gently brings on a sleepy feeling and usually lasts thru the night. A slight hazy feeling in the a.m. lasts for about an hour but that's all. Recommend that dosage. ## Melatonin is an OTC natural brain chemical, it supposed to have a calming effect. It's about as strong as Benadryl, if you know what I mean. lt green m l26 ## What makes you think this is MS contin? I dont find that number/imprint 126 m anywhere. ## Yes, your post is slightly confusing, did you mean M 126, M L26, M and a score line and then 26, or what? Very hard to interpret. And just like nenene said, it is not necessarily MS Contin, I realize many people think that is what they M stands for, but the letters on pills are usually just a company logo and have nothing to do with the actual active drug in the pill. The FDA says that any prescription drugs legally sold, or imported into the US for sale, must have unique imprints for ID purposes, however what that imprint is, is entirely up to the company. So the imprint for each product they make will be different, and the dosage will also make the imprints different. There are...

Need to know what kind of sleeping pill is rounded yellow with brown or black lettering on one side. It is so tiny I cannot read it ## I am sorry, is there a way you can read the lettering with a magnifying glass or by any other means of that sort; so you could post back with the imprint on the tablet itself? U.S. law requires that all prescription drugs have a unique imprint on the tablets or capsules so the medication can be identified by manufacturer, substance and dosage. However, the way a pill looks is entirely up to the whit and whim of the company making it, so there are many, many pills on the market, both over the counter and prescription that meet that physical description. Also, if you have some idea of what the lettering might say I can try doing some searches with what you...
