My GP puts me on Tramahexal SR 100 twice daily for severe lower back pain- how long does it take to have any effects 1 hour, 2 hours ? ## Hello, Maruis! How are you? No, it should start working within 15 to 20 minutes of taking and then the medication is slowly released over a period of 12 hours to help alleviate your pain. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

Since we learned that "hydro" means water, what does "hydro" mean in the drug "hydrocodone?" All drugs are made with some water, aren't they? A student wanted to know why? Thank you. ## Hello, Fran! How are you? As explained by the FDA, a drug name is used to denote its chemical makeup and its drug category. The generic name, in this case Hydrocodone, which is an opiate, is chosen by the USAN (United States Adopted Names). There is also an agency to name them in Japan and other countries, though in many cases, they will keep a universal name, if possible. The actual chemical name of any given drug is far, far too long to use as it's actual name on the market, so what they name it results from a kind of shortening of that chemical name. As an example, here...

will Trexone help alcoholism ## Hi John, Did you mean to say Naltrexone by chance? This medication is actually listed in a class of drugs known as opioid receptor antagonists. It's primarily used as a treatment for managing both alcohol and opioid dependence. Apparently it works by reducing the pleasurable effects that alcohol would normally have on someone; making consumption less desirable I'd imagine. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Naltrexone Details Is this something your doctor had recommended?

What does the letter c indicate at the beginning of an RC number ## It may be an initial for the manufacturer, which could translate into any number of pharmaceutical companies that start with a C. Unfortunately without seeing the entire label first hand, I think all anyone can do is guesstimate what it truly stands for. Whereabouts did you get your prescription filled? CVS or Rite Aid? If you ever get an opportunity to ask the pharmacy that gave it to you, kindly post back here with any updates, so we can all figure this riddle out...

My son died with a blood level of 46.6 ng/ml in his blood system, what does this mean other than it was a high level. ## Cindy, you need to.take the autopsy report to your Dr and ask him to explain it. No.parent should be getting answers like this on.a public forum. ## Hi Cindy, I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. According to a drug toxicity chart I found here, 10-40 ng/mL is listed as a "therapeutic" blood level of Hydrocodone and anything greater than 100 ng/mL is listed as a "toxic" blood level of Hydrocodone. I'm sure one's tolerance to opiates also plays a significant role, but it looks to me like your son wasn't that far off from what's considered to be a normal range. Just wanted to share these details so you can at least have something el...

Hi, I know this may sound like a stupid question but I have suffered from Opiate-Induced Constipation for 15 years and have followed several different VA doctors recommendations, none of which really worked or else the VA pharmacy would fill their recommended prescription. My civilian doctor got me approved for Linzess which I have read great things about. By inpacted, I think it means where the stool is backed up and is blocking evacuation but now I am thinking that since opiates cause slow transit of stool through the G.I. tract, that might be the inpaction they are talking about. I have never had a complete evacuation of my G.I. tract (colon), only partial. So which is it? The inpaction around the evacuation point or up through the colon? ## Hello Lartomar, According to Harvard Healt...

Arubobindo is the name of the manufacture of those particular tablets. The FDA classifies Tramadol as an opioid, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## I need help identifying a pill from Mexico. Quick question that will be expanded upon later, Has your doctor or any medical professional ever talked to you about what each number on the 1-10 pain scale represents outside of the smiley faces you'll see posted on walls of the exam room? Has anyone ever told you that an 8 on that scale is equivalent to natural (no pain meds at all) child birth? Thanks in advance for your answers and opinions.

will opana produce euphoria when mixed with something? ## I am afraid that I have to post the same response here, as I did to your other post on this subject. Since our site is based in the U.S., we must abide by the relevant U.S. laws, which means we can't provide anyone with such information that may enable them to abuse a medication and put their lives in danger. Mixing medications, especially with the intent of getting a high, euphoric feeling can be very, very dangerous. Thus, I can only advise you to use the medications exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Is there anything I can help with? ## Is opana 40mg anything like roxy 15mg ## i was on opana er40 2 time a day an i could not find at any pharmacy so my dr put me on 4mg dilaudid 3 times a aday an iam still in pain i just ...

wanting to get an eye opener on medication that contains opids i want to be a tech. ## Did you mean opioids, such as Oxycodone, and Morphine? The FDA lists them as carrying the risk of being habit forming, and they may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. There are quite a few, such as Codeine, Fentanyl, Hydrocodone, and Hydromorphone, and I know that's really not all. What type of tech are you wanting to become, a pharmacy tech?

My husband has been a PD pasient for 4 years. He is taking rivoltril 0.05 in the evening because of his feet burning and feeling dead. He was suppose to have a knee prostheses removed that has gone wrong but after taking blood the Dr said he is a high risk to operate on and want to talk to his nephrologist first. Can the rovoltril have a bad affect on his blood? ## Hi, Martha! If his doctor wants to talk to his nephrologist, then that means the problem isn't something directly related to his blood, but to something that showed up in his blood work. Most likely something showing a strain or further damage to his kidneys. Has he seen his nephrologist yet to see what the problem is?

I have allways been told that when getting clean you are best to "treat the systems " rather than the disease.... I am sure there is some truth to this but here is my real question.... If a person has 4 steady years of pain meds (oxys, tabs, percocets, ect) what "formula" is the best one you know of to prepare for detoxification if thats what your planning on doing? I have heard of vitamin packs, and cold meds, and just getting zonked out...I mean what are the best remedys for detoxifying or to get you through that 4-6 days ahead? I am really thinking about trying to clean out and just battle my pain on my own.... Anyone care to share? ## Hello, Gary! How are you? Actually, the best method is a slow tapering of the relevant medications. That can prevent the severe withdra...

I have been prescribe opana for over a year now and the dog carried off my months prescription and buried it. The Dr. Said he can't help me! I need some in a bad way ! Please help ## The DEA will block it even if he wants to give you the prescription. However you can get (I take instant so I'm going to make up the mgs for the example) a prescription for 100 20Mgs if you get 50 40mgs and take 2. But likely he will not write you this. Next you can ask for something called withdrawal patches. Doesn't mean you're an addict, you can still have withdrawals. If you have chest pains or shortness of breath for seemingly no reason call 911. Stop any meds especially narcotics cold turkey (albeit not by choice) is extremely dangerous. So monitor yourself. You may be ok. You may have...

hi im meant to be getting my jadelle put in today but after reading everyone's reviews im now thinking twice.... what do you think i should do? is it worth it? what is another option that has less side effects? ## Hello, Charlie! How are you? All hormonal contraceptives carry the risk of causing side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, breakthrough bleeding, mood swings and PMS-like symptoms, as listed by the FDA. For options that don't cause as many, you can use condoms, a diaphragm, or a copper IUD. Which side effects are scaring you?

What is it for and is it prescribed for cancer patients only? The side effects for this drug.I would be more then gratefull if I can get this info.. Thank You ## Did you mean DIlaudid? The name is quite often misunderstood. It is a potent opiate that is used to treat severe pain, and it can be prescribed for people that are not cancer patients, but most doctors are cautious about doing so. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have a UTI Pirifur & Fenazopiridina have been recommended, should I use both or just one? ## Were these medications recommended by your doctor? It is probably best to go with your doctors recommendation (rather than someone's online opinion) since he or she would know best, based on your medical history, and various other methods used for determining if a specific drug is suitable or not. In the meantime I think it would be wise to research and try some natural remedies to help fight the infection without the extra side effects that come with prescription medications.
