my wifes lisinopril-po 20mg tablets twice daily was changed by her Doctor to 40mg's of lisinopril-eq, and I am trying to understand what the difference is between P.O E.Q so I know exactly what this medicine is doing for her overall health. Thank You ## Hello, Slim! How are you? PO just means per os (orally), as in she's supposed to swallow the tablets and the eq means equivalent, as in the pharmacy can give her a generic or multiple tablets/capsules, as long as it is an equivalent dosage. For example, if the pharmacy doesn't have the 40mg on hand, they are allowed to give her 2 of the 20mg ones, or etc. as long as it equals the 40mgs that she's been directed to take. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, heada...

I found a pill in my car that is capsule shaped and is scored. It has a small double pyramid on one score and an m on the other score. The other side of the pill is blank. ## Hello, Debbie! someone one who takes ferrous sulfate 325 mg ta wants to know what the ta stands for ## Hello, George! How are you? That just stands for tablet. Doctor's sometimes designate such on a prescription, to make sure their patient receives one specific form. For instance, they may specify that they be given tablets only, if they want them to be able to divide the dosage, if necessary, since that cannot be done with capsules. The FDA classifies this as an iron supplement and lists its most common side effects as being dark stool and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

What is the meaning of "take 4 capsules per day"? (i.e. How far apart is the dosing schedule?) ## Generally, that would be every 6 hours, but it can depend on the specific medication being asked about. Can you post back with more details? In some cases, it may mean that you can take all 4, at once, it may mean two doses of two capsules, or even taking up to four a day but not always four if not necessary. For instance, I take a medication for nerve pain, and it is prescribed to be taken up to a certain number of times a day, but that doesn't mean it has to be taken so many hours apart, I can take them all at once at night, or take several throughout the day.

What does the sod stand for on phenytoin sod ext its a 100 mg purple and white capsule ## Why is it becoming more difficult to find xanax on The streets? ## What does SOD DR EC mean on the Diclofenac bottle? ## The SOD stands for Sodium, it designates the specific chemical salt that the medication is derived from, that's why some list sodium, some list hydrochloride and etc. As to the DR on a prescription, just like XR, SR, ER and quite a few others, it designates that medication as being time released. As to the EC, from what I've found, it's used similar to ES, DS and etc. to designate that as being an extra strength dosage, rather than the standard prescribed amount. Are there any other questions or comments? ## My perscription bottle says. Metformin 500mg Tab.**RDS WHAT ...

I have BUT/ACETAMINOPHEN/CAFF 50-300-40 CP. What do the last two letters "CP" mean? Does it mean capsules? ## Hello Grace, Typically the abbreviation CP in the medical field refers to cerebral palsy but in reference to a pill itself it's fairly safe to assume that it could stand for capsule. Each company and pharmacy have their own way of labeling things so if it's truly of great concern to you simply ask your pharmacy or the manufacturer who labeled the bottle. ## The ingredients listed in your abbreviation correspond with: Butalbital 50 mg / Acetaminophen 300 mg / Caffeine 40 mg I am inclined to agree with everyone on here that the "CP" could likely stand for Capsule ... Can the side effects include stiffness & cramps in both hands? ## Hello, Paul! How are you? That means that they contain 20 milliequivalents per tablet, that's the dosage and the ER denotes them as being time released. The main side effect of this supplement, as listed by the FDA, is stomach pain and nausea, so it's best to take it with food. As to the stiffness and cramping, that is most likely caused by your potassium being low, but you should have it checked out, just in case. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I am taking lots chloride 10meg er cap for potassium but I still get leg and arm cramps. So I stopped taking them for a week no cramps. So what gives.

The first time I received a prescription for dexilant, it was a very tiny all blue capsule. When I renewed the prescription it was a blue and grey capsule that is slightly larger but both were 30 mg. Why are they different? ## Because they way a medication looks actually means nothing, it is entirely up to the manufacturer. Since it is also illegal to copy the trademarked product from another company, they each have to make them look different. Imprints also have to be different from on company to the other, to identify the drug, dose and manufacturer, in case of emergency. The new ones that you received have just been made by a different company. Sometimes, even the look of name brand pills change, when the company decides to redesign them Do you have any other questions? ## Dexilant i...

Vicodin m325 & vicodine m367 mean ? ## Hello, Jc! How are you? Under current U.S. prescription drug laws, all manufactured tablets and capsules must have markings on them that enable them to be identified in case of emergency. For example, say someone is found unconscious with pills strewn around them, the paramedics would need to know what they had taken in order to provide proper treatment and they can find out, by looking at the markings on the pills and checking in the databases to see what they contained. Another example would be in case of product contamination, then the medications needs to be able to be traced back to a specific manufacturer, in order to rectify the problem and initiate a possible recall. There is no listed tablet that just has M 325 on it. However, when I l...

There is a small white pill inside my generic 5/20 Lotrel capsule. Is the pill amlodipine or benazepril? ## Do you have any info on who the manufacturer is? Other than contacting the manufacturer directly, I don't believe there's anyway to ID a pill (which was inside of another pill), unless it has imprints or markings to verify it. Also, if there's only one pill inside, wouldn't that mean they are combined into the same tablet?
