In one of the chats someone was saying APAP stood for Acetaminophen & Propoxyphene, which makes sense considering the initials, and in all your other answers you say APAP stands for Acetaminophen (only). Why have you dropped the Propoxyphene from your other answers & what the heck is Propoxyphene anyway? I take a generically filled prescription of Fioricet & APAP is one of the listed ingredients. ## Hi Pamela - APAP is ONLY Acetaminophen (aka Tylenol) and has nothing to do with Propoxyphene. "Paracetamol, also known as acetaminophen or APAP, is a widely used over-the-counter pain medication and antipyretic (fever reducer)." [1] By the way, Darvocet propoxyphene was discontinued in the US in 2009: "In January 2009, an FDA advisory committee voted 14 to 12 against ...

what does TEV mean after TAB on medicine lable ## What does MGTEV stand for on darocet 100-650?The lable reads as Propoxyphen- APAP 100-650 MGTEV. Thanks! ## The first initials stand for the manufacturer, for example Teva Pharmaceuticals in the original post, and the TAB specifies that it is a tablet, according to FDA prescribing instructions. Regarding Valerie's post, Propoxyphene, in any form or combination, has been removed from the market, since it was found to cause a high risk of cardiac issues, and many overdose deaths. It was originally available under the name brand Darvocet. It was a very mild narcotic analgesic, the FDA warns that it carried the risk of being habit forming, and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. on one of my prescriptions on the bottle it says OXYCODON HCL-APAP 10/325 and the pill is oblong. I had them refilled and the bottle says OXYCODONE-APAP 10-325 and the pill is round. So what I want to know is what the HCL stands for and are these the same medications? ## Hello, Anne! How are you? Yes, they are the same. The HCL just stands for Hydrochloride and designates the specific chemical salt that the medication is derived from, they just didn't include it on the one label. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

Next to my fill date of generic Percocet I usually have a MCRK code but this new supplier has MADV. Is there a meaning for this? I just feel it's not as strong as what I've been getting ## This new medication 5/325 Oxycodone / APAP has RP stamped on one side of medication ## Hello, Tom! How are you? The MCRK and MADV are abbreviations for the generic manufacturers. For instance, MCRK stands for Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals. In case of emergency, the pharmacies do this to keep track of the manufacturer and/or distributor and the RP is a manufacturers logo. The FDA classifies this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. WHAT DOES THE LETTERS APA STAND FOR? the two articles above contradict each other. top one says...apa means amt of acetaminophen & bottom one says, that apa is the amt of hydrocodone. i came here specifically for apa info. help me with the apa on my meds. thanks g. n. ## From what I could gather, it seems like a simple misunderstanding. APA & APAP are both commonly used abbreviations of Acetaminophen. This abbreviation is often used in the following context: "APA/Hydrocodone 325mg/7.5mg" Is this what you are referring to? I would suggest double checking with your pharmacist if you believe it has an impact on the quality of your medication. However, if you know the imprint on your pill, I can even look it up for you to determine it's exact ingredients. I hope this hel...

I have several hydroc/apap prescriptions (syrup), and I can't remember if they are cough suppressants or not. I don't want to take it for my back pain if it is a cough syrup. I can't swallow pills, so I get the syrup form, and I don't want to take a cough syrup. The liquid is yellowish. Can anyone help me decipher the label? What does ELXQUAL mean? Also, how strong is one teaspoon...what pill strength would you compare it to. ## Hydrocodone with APAP (Acetaminophen) is used to treat both pain, and as a cough suppressant. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, and dry mouth. The other abbreviations just stand for the type of mix, and the manufacturer. How much have you bee...

I need to find out IF there really is a difference? Thank You! ## I cannot tell you anything about them, without knowing the markings on the tablets, that is what identifies them and the dosage. Hello I'm currently taking Hydrocodone APAP 10/500mg! I was prescribed 60tabs but after taking at least 10 of them I have not be releaved of pain nor does this medicine have an affect on me... What should I do? ## I meant relieved of pain And what should I do? ## Did you take 10 at once or separately? Because you should be informed that taking a lot at once can be very dangerous due to the Acetaminophen in this. It is toxic if taken in amounts exceeding 4,000mgs a day and 10 of these tablets would have been 5,000mgs. As to what you should do, the 10mg of Hydrocodone, a narcotic pain reliever, is the strongest that this is available in, so if it is not helping your pain, then you need to contact your doctor and discuss the issue with them. Have you called them, yet? ## my dr change...

Hello At pain clinic recently and they changing me from fentynal 75mcg 1 every 3 days to embeda 60. The pharmacy having problems filling this due to work comp restrictions so they send me HCD 30mg until they can get embeda filled. Is this equivalent in pain reduction as the fentynal? reason i ask is im in alot more pain than usual. It takes effort to walk, my knees, hips, back, shoulders hurt really bad, Im currently taking this medication because of problems with knees, hips, back and right shoulder. ## OT os very doubtful that the pain relief is equivalent. Fentanyl is really the strongest narcotic analgesic on the market, it is 80 times stronger than Morphine, which is what is in the Embeda. The Hydrocodone is yet another step down on the pain relief scale, from the Morphine. I mean t...

I am trying to find out information on the above drug. In addition the numbers 5/500 ki was attached. Can you help discover what any of this means. ## It is a 5mg vicodin with 500 mg's of tylenol --- nothing big --- ## Hydrocodone is a narcotic pain releiver given for mild to moderate pain. The 5 is the amount of actual hydrocodone and the 500 is the amount of acetaminephen or tylenol in the pill. Also branded as Lorcet, Vicoden, etc. They are very commonly given after dental work or after a back or neck injury that isnt muscle related. These pills can be very addicting as they do give a sense of high if taken too much. Do not drink alcohol with these pills.

my primary dr prescirbed the "butal acet caff" one in Dec 2013 & then my nuerologist said it had aspirin in it so she gave me the "butalbital apap caffeine" today jan 2014 I take coumadin & my blood work has been messed up since dec. anyone know what is the difference between them ## There is no difference between the two you listed, APAP is just medical speak for Acetaminophen, which is what the acet stands for, not Aspirin as the neurologist thought. As to your blood work, what do you mean by messed up? Is your INR fluctuating greatly? ## I have had 3 cervical fusions for a farm injury that resulted in chronic Migraines. The Butalbital with aspirin (ASA) works exponentially better for me than version with acetaminophen.
