Does this drug loose its effectiveness if it is split in half like 90 days before taking it? Also will taking tums (2 - 750 mg tablets) with this drug reduce its effectiveness? ## This is a time released formulation of Metoprolol, so it needs to be taken whole, the tablets should not be cut or broken, because that could cause you to get too much of the medication, at once. If you have a tablet that's been cut or broken, you should discard it. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. And yes, Tums will reduce it's efficacy, so if you need an antacid you should look for an alternative. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hi Mom... I also take 100mg of Metoprolol ER. If y...

I switched pharmacies and the pills look different - it didn't concern me, and research says they are the same thing. However, I FEEL different. My heart starts racing, then returns to normal, and I have tremendous pressure in my head. Pharmacy A uses round white pill w/ M 100 on one side, scored on othe. Pharmacy B is round white with M 3 on it, and a score between the characters, blank on other side. B is the one I am struggling with. Would there be a difference in how I feel? ## Hello, Susan! How are you? Yes, they are both 100mg Metoprolol tables, they're just manufactured by different companies. However, under the Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984, there can be slight differences in the amount of the active ingredient in generics, so this new one may be a little stronger than the on...

I take a pill twice a day. Is each pill 50 mg, or combined they equal 50mg? ## Hi Connie, What is the imprint on the pills that you take? There are 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg pills available. Based on your description I can only assume that they are 50mg, but would need to look up the imprint for verification. If you are taking this medication for high blood pressure, the usual dosage for metoprolol is extremely patient specific and should be individualized. What should I do? I took 2 metoprolol 50mg but my dose is 1. My other meds are white and looked alike. ## It is always best to check with your doctor to be sure. Did you experience any adverse events? In most cases, doubling up just once isn't a huge problem, according to the FDA, but you may experience lower blood pressure and heart rate than usual, as well as nausea and dizziness. ## I missed my dose at 11pm but took it at 2am. Can i still take my metoprolol tartrate 25mg dose at 11 tonight? ## I've been taking Metoprolol 100 mg 1x daily and just found out that my pharmacy gave me 50mg pills which I've been taking 1x a day and only recently realized the mistake. On Oct 16th 2016 I got my normal Metformin 90 day supply. I was feeling (over the next 2 months) like an elephant was on my chest & couldn't walk more than 15-to 20 ft without feeling as though I was going to black out. On Dec. 30th eve I noticed my dose was scored, not Metformin. That's when I caught it! Never had High Blood Pressure & am 54. I normally fill 2 weeks at a time (pill containers) & nightly a week. I take 2 in the a.m. & 2 at night. So they were mixed in & not knowing what or how many - all unknown. But when I caught it, it was 2 Metoprolol 100 ER! So looking at the rest of that week & 2 nights, 2 to 3 out of 4 mornings, I had 1 with Metformin. The next a.m dose #31 I almost took 2 more Metoprolol 100 mg Er! I am totally disgusted! I have no...

What would happen if you took it because it looks like pain medication ## You should never assume a medication is any given drug based on how it looks. The shape, size and colors actually don't mean anything. This tablet is manufactured by Mylan Pharmaceuticals and they list it as containing 100mgs of Metoprolol. The FDA classifies this as a beta blocker that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, hair loss, increased urination and hypotension. If you took one and it is not a medication prescribed for you, please watch for any danger signs, such as extreme dizziness, drowsiness and shallow breathing. You should also contact your doctor and inform them that you'v...
