I have to take Genfura (50 mg) 4 times a day for 3 days and always with food. So, would that be one every 4 hours or 6 hours? ## That should be approximately every 6 hours, though if you are few minutes off, that is usually fine. The U.S. FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

when taking medication & the directions are 1 tablet 3 times a day, how many hour's are between each tablet ## Hi Katt, When the directions state "1 tablet, 3 times daily", I think most people base the "3 times daily" off of a 24 hour period, where as you can simply divide 24 by 3 times and have "1 tablet, every 8 hours". Some people might not wait 8 hours and may just take it 3 times spread out during the day and not have any at night. I personally would go with the "every 8 hours" deal, because I find it easier to track. I hope this helps to answer your question! :) ## David you must be a machine being up for 24hrs, when do you sleep? For 1 pill every 8 hours you times 8 by 2=16. 1 pill at 0hrs, next at 8hrs then final at 16hrs. Most people are ...

Ihave a newscript for levothroxine 50 MCG - things usually say MG ## Hi Linn, I definitely hear you on this one. Prescription drugs can be more confusing than algebra at times. Lol The difference of mcg vs mg is the measurement of each. MCG is the abbreviation of micrograms. MG is the abbreviation of milligram. You would need 1000 micrograms to make up 1 milligram. For your own reference: 50 mcg = 0.050 mg Learn More: Levothyroxine Details I hope this helps! :) ## Thank you. That clears up a lot. You are right, it is as bad as algebra which I also did not excel in. ## What is the difference between b12 5000mcg and b12 1000 mcg. I have been taking b12 1000mcg. What is the meaning of "take 4 capsules per day"? (i.e. How far apart is the dosing schedule?) ## Generally, that would be every 6 hours, but it can depend on the specific medication being asked about. Can you post back with more details? In some cases, it may mean that you can take all 4, at once, it may mean two doses of two capsules, or even taking up to four a day but not always four if not necessary. For instance, I take a medication for nerve pain, and it is prescribed to be taken up to a certain number of times a day, but that doesn't mean it has to be taken so many hours apart, I can take them all at once at night, or take several throughout the day.

1 tab means by mouth, when a patient is awaiting an early morning procedure you may see a sign on the door nothing po ## Thanks for taking time to share this information. I find it rather common to see notes/signs on physician's doors when they're away from their desk. Although I still don't understand what "PO" even means in the context of which it was used. Would you be so kind as to elaborate a bit more on that and how it relates to taking 1 tablet daily? ## PO per os ("by mouth") It means by mouth. Take 1 tab or pill qd po means take one pill by mouth each day, Take 1 tab qid po means take one tablet four times a day by mouth, usually followed by every 6 hours. I got a pill from a friend who said it will calm me down..she said it was valium...but it looks differant...its light yelllow and round. There is a P on top and under the score line there is a 5 ## Since this is Canadian, I can't definitively confirm it, but this pill has come up several times and several Canadians have identified it as being a generic for Valium, with the % designating it as a 5mg tablet. In case you aren't familiar with Valium, here's a link to more Valium details . It does require a prescription and can be habit forming, so it shouldn't be used, without a doctor's approval. Is there anything else I can help with?

What does it mean to take three tablets daily? Do I take three at once or at three separate times a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner)? ## If all it says is to take "3 tablets daily" you should take them all at once, unless otherwise noted. Especially prednisone. Otherwise it would say "take 1 tablet 3 times a day (tid)", or "1 tablet up to 3 tablets daily as needed (prn)". ## Hi Sharlene, It depends if the more detailed instructions say "3 tablets once per day" or "1 tablet 3 times per day". If they indicate something more like one tablet at a time (3 times per day), this generally indicates 1 tablet every 8 hours (unless otherwise noted). So I think breakfast, lunch and dinner would be a good way to spread this out. Since 8 hours goes into 24 hou...

Is there a difference between 1 pill every 8 hours and 1 pill 3 times a day? 3 times a day is 8 hours yet I've seen it written both ways. ## Hello, Bosco! How are you? Yes, there is a difference. As is stated, one is meant to be taken precisely every 8 hours, but the other is just 3 times a day. That three times a day doesn't necessarily mean it has to be 8 hours apart, for instance, the doctor may just mean for someone to take it with breakfast, lunch and dinner, or in the morning when waking, at lunchtime and then at bedtime. Some medications need to be taken on a precise schedule to keep the level of them in your body consistent for them to work best, but with some medications, it doesn't matter. My Lopressor says take in am and pm, what times should I take it? ## Hello, Sherry! How are you? Unless your doctor specifies otherwise, that generally means to take one when you get up in the morning and the other at bedtime. The FDA classifies this medication as a beta blocker that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

I've been prescribed naproxen tablets that says on bottle,Take ONE tablet -TWO TWICE daily. Am I taking two daily( one morning and night) or four daily as in two in the morning and two in the afternoon? ## Take one in the morning and one at night. ## Have you double checked with your pharmacist, or doctor? That wording is a bit hard to understand, it could mean to take one tablet twice daily, or that you could take one to two tablets twice daily. The FDA warns that this medication may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and stomach irritation. Hey. I just had surgery (tonsils burned & removed) and the dr prescribed me Acetaminophen with Codeine in it. I've been instructed to take 15mL every four hours as needed. Is that 4 times a day? ## Hi Brittany, 4 goes into 24 hours (1 day) six times. This means that "every 4 hours" translates to 6 times a day. However, "as needed" means that you don't necessarily have to abide by that regimen if you don't feel the need to take it as often. Here's an example of how you could space it out evenly over a waking day, assuming you are awake from 6am to 10pm: 6 am (right after waking up) 10 am (mid-morning) 2 pm (early afternoon) 6 pm (evening/dinner time) 10 pm (shortly before going to bed) If you have any other questions concerning an appropriate dosing pr...

When prescribed most common drugs you either are given one tablet 3 times a day or one tablet 4 times a day to take . I was told that tablets are taken on a 12 hour cycle if so that would mean one tablet 3 times a day would be one every 4 hours (3 x 4 =12) so one 4 times a day would be one every 3 hours (4 x 3 = 12) IS THIS CORRECT. Thank you ## what is the dosage of daflon 500 mg? is it twice a day? ## Should I take 2 tablets at a time or 4? ## Each pill is 3MG. I was told to take 4 pills a day. My mom was given Acyclovir 800 mg to take 5 times a day. What does that mean??? ## 24/5=4.8 hours or 288 minutes or 4 hours & 48 minutes ## Your math is right, but should we take the number of waking hours and divide by 5 rather than the entire 24 hour period? So accounting for sleep, 16 hours awake / 5 times = 3.2, so about every 3.5 hours? Update - I looked up the Acyclovir dosage guidelines on DailyMed, and it states "800 mg every 4 hours orally, 5 times daily for 7 to 10 days." ... So it seems like somewhere in the middle of both of our answers lol

When taking prescribed antibiotics and the dosage is 1 pill twice a day, how many hours should before the next dosage? ## Hi Dman, Based on a 24 hour time scale, if you're required to take 1 pill twice daily, that "generally" means taking 1 pill every twelve hours. However I would recommend double checking this with your doctor first, in case he or she has special instructions for your individual case. I've been taking 875mg Amoxicillin/125mg Clav for a tooth abscess. My doctor gave me 10 days worth of meds to take twice a day. I've been taking it now for 4days but breaks it down into 3 times a day by splitting the pill in 1/2 which means I'm actually taking a pill and a 1/2. How many days are in one bottle taking 3 times a day ## 90 ## Actually it depends on how many pills are in the bottle you are talking about, whatever amount your doctor wrote on your prescription, divided by 3. Some insurance plans allow a 90 day supply, some only a 30, so it really depends on how many are in the bottle you have and none of us can guess at that. If you look over the paperwork from your pharmacy from when you got your prescription, it will have a line on there that says Days Supply: and then a number and that will answer your question, or you can just ask your pharmacist if you can't locate the information on your own. I do see that Carol posted a response, but that is not necessarily correct, just because she received a 90day supply at once, doesn't mean everyon...

So I was put on ciprofloxacin 2 times a day and am currently taking 10/325 percocets. I read somewhere that it is a major interaction between the two. Is there anyway maybe I can take them hrs apart? ## The only interaction I've been able to find is that Ciprofloxacin can increase the effectiveness of the Oxycodone. This doesn't mean they can't be taken together, just that your doctor should carefully consider your dosage and they should be monitoring you regularly to keep an eye on you, in case any problems arise.
