What Are The Symptoms Of Withdrawal Methadone

Hello all. I am seeking advice for either home remedies to help alleviate some of the symptoms of withdrawal as you taper off methadone, or any and all suggestions about how to go about reducing the dosage and cravings. My boyfriend has been on methadone for 3 years. At first it was a 105 mg dosage just a substitute to get his fix instead of using. Now, he is really trying to get clean and slowly get off methadone. He's been on 30 mg for (from what I can recall) 6 months. About a month ago, he tapered down to 25 mg. He takes 10 mg pills and we are cutting them into fourths and halves. He tried to go down to 23 mg, but he has had a hard time with his nights - joint pain, muscle spasms, cravings, etc. So now he is a little reluctant to continue to go down. Does anyone have suggestions...

I've been on 95 mg. Of liquid methadone for 4 yrs. I am 330lbs 39 yrs old and quit 3 days ago cold turkey um im very afraid now. Please tell me what can I expect to happen? Please ## As reported by the FDA, withdrawal symptoms may possibly include nausea, dizziness, fever, chills, rebound pain, depression, anxiety and diarrhea. Quitting cold turkey generally isn't advised, because this medication is very hard to get off of. How are you doing with it? ## I'm not sure just staying home the diarria started today I just couldn't afford methadone anymore. My counselor advised against but I'm tired of taking it everyday since I started 4 yrs ago I went from 180lbs to 345lbs and now I just want my life back thanks for the help. ## HEY! GOOD LUCK, AND DON'T EVEN GO ON GO...

So if you are in severe pain and in the middle of nowhere and the only thing anyone has is methadone if you only took it once till you could get back and get help would you go through withdrawals? ## Hello, Ricky! How are you? According to the FDA information on Methadone, it has happened to some people, but it is a very rare occurrence. One would usually have to take it for a longer period of time to experience withdrawals. With one dose, you'll usually just feel sick and fatigued, afterwards. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## DO NOT TAKE METHODONE IF YOU HAVE USED SUBOXONE IN THE LAST 3 DAYS. I promise you...

I am a 55 year old man, and I have been going to a Pain Management facility for lower back pain and now even chronic Osteoarthritic shoulder pain, and have been taking 60mg of Methadone every day (10mg tablets x 2 x 3 times a day -- morning, noon & night) for the past three years. Although I've been doing well on that regimen, perhaps out of more of a psychological concern over the known "qt" (heart) effects of the drug (rather than any "real" ones), I decided to ask my doctor if I could try Opana ER (20mg every 12 hours), which I had taken once before, for a short time, at another Pain Management facility, with great success. All I'm wondering are what the withdrawal effects might be (if any) of stopping the Methadone (60mg) on a Monday, and starting the Opa...

Hi, I was on Methadone for 15 years. For the past 2 years they slowly tapered me because I did not want to feel any withdrawals. They got me all the way down to 3 mg, and I stopped going. Well that was 30 days ago and I'm still going through withdrawals. They are not severe, insomnia, anxiety, diarrhea, cold chills. My question is how 2 stop it? I just want to feel normal again. ## Hi, Tamara! Sorry about the problems you're having. However, that is one very big issue with Methadone, it tends to cause withdrawals and cravings for a very long period of time, that's why most people never completely get off of it and end up requiring a lifetime maintenance dose. Thus, I'm afraid there's no way to know for sure when the symptoms you're having will stop, or if they wi...

Has anyone ever heard of this medication being prescribed for withdrawal symptoms from Methadone and if so what do I need to look for as far as side effects. It has been prescribed to my 42 year old husband who is now completely off of Methadone used for chronic pain. ## Well the correct drug name is Imipramine, it is classified as an antidepressant. These are used a lot of times, to help treat withdrawal effects from narcotic drugs, because the narcotics act not only for your pain, but they also have an effect on brain chemicals and stopping them can upset the delicate balance. Here's the monograph link with side effect information: ## I have a friend that is taking Peg Entron w/Remidal. He is having terrible physical and mental side effects side affects. He has Hep -C and Chirrosi...

I have been on Methadone for about 3 years for long term pain management and the stomach issues are awful. I went from 30 to 10 two years ago and have now been 3 days on 7.5 with no withdrawals yet. When will they start? I have clonidine and Ativan from the doctor to help, but I have a 3 day conference in July 7-9 and need to be pain free at 7.5 by then. Then I will take the last 2 weeks of summer to get to 5 mg. ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? I'm sorry, but there's no definitive time frame that I can give you in response. It can vary from person to person. Have you experienced any, yet? The FDA lists the typical withdrawal symptoms as possibly including nausea, diarrhea, fever, chills and rebound pain. Can anyone that's taken it give an approximate time frame that may help? #...

Methadone, sold under the brand names Dolophine and Methadose among others, is a synthetic opioid agonist used for chronic pain and also for opioid dependence.[5] It is used to treat chronic pain, and it is also used to treat addiction to heroin or other opioids. [8][9] Prescribed for daily use, the medicine relieves cravings and removes withdrawal symptoms.[10] Detoxification using methadone can be accomplished in less than a m...

I've taken 80 mg liquid Methadone for six years. This is my second attempt to kick this devil off my shoulder. I tapered myself down over a two week period and took my last dose two weeks ago. It hasn't been nearly as hard as quitting cold turkey, yet it has still been hell. When will I feel myself again and what are the effects of long term use? ## HI! Sorry about the problems that you're having. How are you feeling today? With Methadone it's very hard to say when or if you may feel like yourself again. There is actually an increasing reluctance to use it now, because it tends to create cravings and withdrawal symptoms that never go away for some people. That's why most addicts that are treated with it end up on a lifetime maintenance dose. Have you considered seein...

I've been on 130 mg methadone a day for over a year... i got cut off so now i'm withdrawing.. Will taking Percocet and .5mg claudapins help the withdrawal symptoms? ## It will help, ever so slightly Easiest way to withdrawal, Taper methadone down every two weeks I would start at 100 Take 100 for 2 weeks Go to 80 for 2 weeks Go to 60 for two weeks 40 35 Then at 35 or 30 Start taking it every other day Stay off for 5 days, then switch to suboxone Suboxone for 2 months until you take nothing This way you won't suffer from the acute withdrawal syndrome for the next 3 months I stopped cold turkey at 60 after being on it for years, I had no energy for 3 months ## No offense do nottake that advice that is way too aggressive you can die are you extremely sick please be careful what ...

Hi ! I was addicted to opiates for three years due to several work comp surgeries, I chose to use methadone to get off the pills ,now it was been a year since I started the methadone and I am ready to titrate down and just get away from it all!! Can anybody tell me what I am going to feel lIke, will I have withdrawal symptoms the whole time?? I take 100m a day, I'm a little scared of how I'm gonna feel, can somebody help??? ## It is very hard to say. Methadone is known to create severe withdrawal symptoms, that's why most people never actually get off of it and end up on a lifetime maintenance dose. Thus, any attempted tapering off of it must be done very, very slowly and can take a good period of time. Have you considered getting medical assistance? ## Yes I get it through ...

On 60mg. of methadone. Want to due a taper of 5mg. per day til at 30mg. Stop for two days, Then start Suboxone 8mg per day for two weeks then discontinue. Does this sound doable? ## Hello, Jencruise1! How are you? That could be too rapid of a taper for the Methadone, according to the FDA, it is highly addictive and tends to cause severe cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Additionally, waiting 2 days to take the Suboxone could be too long or too short of a time period to start it. You need to be in full withdrawal, which for some people could be 12 hours, or it may take several days. Taking it too soon could cause you to go into precipitated withdrawals, which can be very dangerous and, if you go into severe withdrawals sooner, there'd be no point in waiting longer to take it. 2 weeks...

white oblong m on 1 side 14 & 45 on the other side ## That is correct, it does contain 10mgs of Methadone. The FDA classifies this medication as being an opiate narcotic, which is used to treat pain, as well as drug addiction. They warn that it carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dry mouth, dizziness, constipation, and headache. Is there anything I can help with? ## They are exactly are what you say they are. If I were you I would try a different medication. They are highly addictive and the withdrawal symptoms are very bad. I went thru it once and if I were to wind up on it again I would take it for the rest of my life so I wouldn’t have to go thru that again. I just heard that the government is telling some patients they can...

I have been reading all these posts and was blown away by all these people seeking methadone.ok here we go ,I was on 80 mgs going to the clinic every day for 8 years.when your in a opiate fog 8 years go by real fast. One day I did not have my weekly payment(which is all my clinic cared about, never asked how are you)so I decided to detox cold turkey from 80 mgs to nothing. Now I've quit H twice in my life but methadone, nothing can compare to the agony and despair that is methadone withdrawal. Let's start with acute withdrawal symptoms which lasted approximately 20 days bedridden, complete lack of sleep for 14 days, leg pain (worst part "kicking the habit") vomiting ,chills, sweats, basically every way you can suffer.Once you start to feel physically better then comes paws(po...

I'm just looking for a bit of insight. I've been on methadone for about a year and a half now, but have been tapering for the past couple months. The most I've been on is 60mg, but I went down to 35mg after about 8 months of being on methadone in general. I went down 3mg a week from 35mg until I reached 20mg, then from there I have done 1mg per week. I know it seems like a while, but I think that was a really good choice for me. I have accidentally missed two days worth of a dose one time due to the weekend and I literally felt like dying. I starting withdrawing after only one day and was puking up stomach bile that very night. I am currently at 10mg, still going down 1mg per week from here on out. I want to know what I should expect as far as withdrawal symptoms go after I ...

I am a man who is trapped on methadone. I took opiates for three years and I was off for six weeks, with what felt like having the symptoms of flu. At age 28 I was prescribed methadone. That was 18 years ago. I have tried about 7 times to get off, all with very intense pain, sickness, and diarrhea (sic). I am now aware that I won't ever get off it now, as the methadone is in my bone marrow. I would love to have a life free from methadone, but it is never going to happen. I have been quoted up to £5000 for treatment, where the hell am I going to get money like that? I'm on 60mls a day, along with another highly addictive drug. Naltrexone and subutex are not an option as, if I go any lower than 60 I start to have very painful withdrawal symptoms. I have had a heart attack and...

Hey everybody. This is my first time here, so please excuse me for just butting in. I just started methadone on Tuesday. Trying to get my life back. Anyway, just wondering what to expect. Some moments I feel great, then a little while later I feel as if a car dropped on me. I started at 30 mgs the first day..they up it by ten each day, so I'm at 50 today where I will stay for at least a week. So is there anything I can do to help me thru the shaky bits? Any info would be appreciated . Thanks! ## No worries, jump right in, that's what our site is here for! :-) It can take some time to adjust to being on the Metahdone, rather than whatever drug you were abusing. The dosage doesn't always match up quite exactly, so you may still experience some withdrawal symptoms, which are pr...
