My 40lb Cattle Dog got ahold of my lasix pills I take for a heart condition. I cannot account for several 20mg pills. Are these pills toxic for dogs, and should I take him to the vet? Any advice would be helpful. ## On this I have to say: Yes, please contact your veterinarian! Our site, the available information and any knowledge of my own pertains only to the use of medications in humans. There are some medications that can be used cross-species, with dosing adjustments, but not all can be used safely in dogs. In addition, with the fact that he may have swallowed several, he could end up dangerously dehydrated very fast. Can you post back and let us know how he's doing? ## What did you do? ## 57 pound German Shepherd puppy ate some of my mom's Lasix will this hurt him I do not ...

My doctor raised my lasix from 12.5 to 40 than raised my atenolol to 2 times a day along with my other meds, now my back hurts both sides by my kidneys, stomach and legs hurting, along with a headache. No appetite, just real thirsty. I have chf hpb, neropothy, diabetes ## Hi, Tim! Sorry about the problems that you're having. Those might be symptoms of dehydration, so the higher dosage of the Lasix could be too much for you. It contains the active ingredient Furosemide, which is a loop diuretic that's used to remove excess fluid from the body, but if you aren't taking in enough, or if it is removing too much, dehydration can occur. Doctor has RX'd both lasix and KLOR-CON M 20meg for swollen ankle. Is it necessary to take both medications? Can I just take the lasix and rely on the potassium I obtain through the foods that I eat? ## Hello, Buckeye! How are you? It would be best to take them both, if your doctor has prescribed them both. Diuretics, such as Lasix tend to really sap your potassium and it could be dangerous, if it drops too low. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Lasix as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and increased urination. The Klor-Con is known to cause stomach pain and upset, so it is best taken with food or a snack. Is there anything else I can help with? ## The advice in your reply sounds logical and I will follow it by taking both meds. thanks, Verwon. An extensive sea...

I'm taking 300 mg of gabapentin three times a day and noticed a rapid weight gain. I think it's mostly water retention and I was wondering if taking one Lasix a day would help me loose the weigh and keep it off and not cause any other catastrophe. ## Hello, Margareta! How are you? With the possible risks associated with such rapid fluid retention, it would be best to have it checked out, rather than trying to treat it yourself. It does have the potential to lead to congestive heart failure. How long have you been taking the Gabapentin? It can also just cause regular weight gain and not just fluid gain. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness and mood swings. ## The drug made me pile on the weight and my tummy hammed it on. I was frighted to eat. I would try and come off...

I have been on Meloxicam 15mg for about 2 weeks for neck and shoulder pain, believed to be caused from arthritis. It has helped alot compared to the pain I was in before I started it. I just wanted to know if it is habit forming? I take the Meloxicam in the evening but I take Lasix in the morning, is this ok that these are both taken but at different times? Thank you. ## I was on Meloxicam for 3 months and was attacking my stomach..I ended up in the ER and was diagnosed with Gastritis. .a inflammation of the stomach, odd because it's an inflammatory. I went off it cold turkey immediately and dI'd not have withdrawl at all. Everyone is different though, good luck.. ## Hello, Tracy! How are you? And thanks to Catherine for her response. I've just had an open heart surgery valve replacement the mitral one and it's been two months now. So I'm taking cardiocor, warfarin, synaleve or still pains if needed, slow k and mylan furosemide. So the lasix was draining me too much and two weeks back I stopped taking it. I am fine,no swollen stomach or legs and I drink not more than 1litre of fluids a day. Since I urinate very well should I continue not taking the lasix or do I have to take it until the doctor tells me to stop?

I am a thyroidectomy hyperthyroidism 45 year old female with hypokalemia on 30 meq's a day but I also take 80 mgs of Lasix. 9 out of ten times my potassium is low but I have been eating so much food with potassium that mine was at 10 last time and I was in the emergency room and I cannot find a doctor, not at a hospital in my area that doesn't have a 3 month wait. Is there a way to get your blood taken without an emergency room? I have insurance, just do not trust hospitals. They treat you like a rotating door and you never accomplish anything. HELP. PLEASE. ## Your doctor can order blood work, some blood draws are done right at their office, or at the hospital lab, but neither requires you to go to the ER. What reason did they give for a 3 month wait? Usually, if you've had...

Just had back surgery. My blood pressure has been low so I stopped taking the diltiazem and cut the lasix in half to 40 mg plus the inspra 25 mg. My blood pressure is good during the day and at night is 115/70. Is this the right thing to do? ## Hello, Lou! How are you doing? Has there been any change? Did your doctor approve these dosage adjustments? The biggest concern is that if you drop the dosage of these medications too abruptly, or stop one suddenly, it could result in a rebound effect, according to the NIH, which could cause the exact opposite problem of dangerously elevated blood pressure and heart rate. If the occurs, it could place you at risk of heart attack, or stroke. How low has it been, since the surgery? Are you on any other medications? ## Thanks for the input I'm b...

I am taking 10 mg lasix twice daily and 20 meq potassium daily. Is this a good ratio? ## Hello, Eugene! How are you? Are these the doses your doctor has prescribed? There's really no definitive rate that I can give you for how much potassium Lasix depletes from the body, it can vary from person to person. Have you actually tested as being low in potassium? The FDA lists the typical side effects of Lasix as possibly including nausea, dizziness, increased urination, hypotension and dehydration. The potassium is known to irritate the stomach, so it should only be taken with food.
