I am 37 years old and have gained an excessive amount of weight in the last couple years and it's getting worse every month. It's mostly around my belly but I've noticed in my legs that I have a lot of water. My fingers also seem to tingle a lot too. ## Hello, Daylyn! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having. And I urge you to see your doctor, as soon as possible. What many people aren't aware of is that such extreme fluid retention can put you at risk of congestive heart failure and it may cause high blood pressure. Both of which require treatment for your own safety. Are you on any medications that might be causing it? ## No, No medications. And also No insurance. Going to the Dr can be very expensive. Probably the biggest reason I...

I have been on 60mg of Cymgen and 10mg of Trepeline for 3 months now. My water retention has gone through the roof and I have picked up 8kgs over the last three months despite following a controlled diet and exercise routine. Is this normal? ## it is the trepeline that cause the water retention and not cymbalta,I am on cymbalta for 2 years now and lost 8ks ## Actually, it could be either one of the medications, or maybe the combo of taking both. They have both been known to cause it in a small percentage of the people that take them. Have you consulted your doctor? Edema can be a dangerous condition, if left to continue out of control, so you may need to switch to other medications, or adjust these ones.

I started taking Chantix two and a half weeks ago. The first three days I had no issues, however when I started taking it twice a day I became very nauseous. I think I have over come that by making sure that I eat something with it (never ate prior to coming to work in the morning and a granola bar seems to help). My biggest concern that is in the past 14 days I have gained ten pounds. I feel like this is bloating and water weight however very concerning to me. I run at least every other day and I have not changed my eating habits. Last night when I came home from my run my left ankle was triple the size. No pain no injury. This morning it was back to normal but now swelling again. I called the doctor and they said my other option is Wellbutrin. I am afraid to make the change and not su...

I have been taking Nifedipine for a month. I have increased water and swelling in feet, and a lot of pulled muscles. I think the pills are the cause. How do I wean myself off them? I take one every second day, until I see my Dr. ## It would be best not to stop taking them, until you see your doctor, but the NIH does list that as being a possible side effect of this medication, so you might need to switch to a different medication. When you be able to see your doctor? The FDA lists other side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination. Are you on any other medications? ## Yes, I have two of those but don't have the nausea. Can't see my dr til two weeks time. I was taking HCTZ before so I went back on this pill. Yes I thanked synthroid, been...

Recently I've been experiencing water retention in my right leg. Is this from taking methadone? I've had several tests done. They say it's lymphademia but no blood clots were found. Everything seems to be okay yet I'm retaining water in my right leg. It doesn't make any sense. Can you please tell me if this could be from the methadone or additives from my thyroid medicine or any other medicines that you know of that would cause this? ## NIH.gov lists "swelling in your face or hands" as an allergic reaction to methadone and levothyroxine, but they don't mention any specific details about swelling in the legs. What's the name of the thyroid medication you take? I investigated levothyroxine in particular simply because I think it's one of the most po...

Caridzem CD ... is this is the cause of my water retention. My knees are in such pain from water build up. How do I get rid of the fluid. I am drinking a lot of water. ## Cardizem CD contains the active ingredient Diltiazem, which is a calcium channel blocker, used to threat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. And yes, it can cause fluid retention, which can lead to some severe health problems. Have you consulted your doctor? Drinking more water, if you are retaining fluid, is only going to worsen the condition. ## CARDIZEM CD 120 mg mfg Valeant OUT OF STOCK AGAIN This is a critical drug for me prescribed for AFIB. Being that hypersensitive to medications it is the ONLY drug I can take for my problem. They have tried me on all of them all the side effects are severe. Eve...

I'm type II diabetic and I have been waiting over 10 months to try this product out to lower my morning blood sugar count so I wouldn't have to start shooting insulin. It dropped my morning reading which has been steady at 165 to 115! I take metformin and glipizide but had to quit actos because of a similar problem as I have encountered with the Belviq. My legs retain and swell up with water. I also developed water blisters varying from 1/4" to the size of a quarter. Became uncomfortable and also itched. I quit taking Belviq and the symptoms went away. After a week of being OK I started taking Belviq again and had the same problems. It took about 2 weeks before I started to lose my appetite in the evening. I may try one more time just to make sure it's the Belviq causing...

My dermatologist changed my acne script a week ago to Purbac 480mg 2x daily and my skinny legs are blowing up so that I look like I have elephantitus at about 6pm. I can't remember if these symptoms started with the new pills or before. Could this be a side-effect of Purbac. It is really uncomfortable. ## The swelling which you are reporting appears to be a strong reaction to Sulfamethoxazole (the active ingredient). I'd recommend notifying your doctor / pharmacist, as they may have you discontinue it or put you on something else. Good luck & let me know how it goes!

Hi,yet another newbie here, hoping i can get some advice on buprenorphine & acid in the urinary tract.Sounds strange but for the last two years whilst being on (bups) I've had terrible pain & have also been suffering from dehydration.I have had bloods & all sorts but my Doctor,(who does not prescribe) bups & indeed is hard pushed to give me anything else, hasn't found anything wrong with me,which is exactly what he intended. Has anyone been on( bups) for over 10 years & if so what if any are the problems apart from addiction caused from long term use of 12mgs. I am prescribed 6 mg of Xanax daily for anxiety and panic attacks. I have in the last 6 months or possibly 9 months have been increasingly retaining water and am now taking fluxomine and potassium to try to rid the water retention in my legs although I have a large belly bulge hard as a rock which seems to be part of the whole disaster. now I am wearing 30 40 hg compression thigh high to help with moving the fluid build up out of my legs which works as long as I wear them every day until bedtime. it does nothing for the belly bulge and the water or whatever this fluid is in my complete torso . I look like I have small womens breasts and very large thighs above where the compression stockings stop at the thighs. I cant get any help that is actually working. have been sent to a heart and ...

60 year old triathlete in perfect condition had severe stroke with hemiplegia. First 18 months steady recovery... feeling well, no weight gain. 6 months after stroke I'm back training 6-8 hour (bike ride, weight training and swimming) per week. However, 3 month ago doctor insisted I start Xarelto (this was the only change in a very structured life). Since then I've put on 20 pounds, started retaining water like crazy, all the while on the strict training schedule and diet. Now I'm having so many muscle pain and strains, especially in the legs and shoulders that I've had to stop training. Now the weight is really piling up and the BP is getting hard to control. ## Yes, Xarelto has been known to cause these types of side effects, you are not the first person to report such...

My lower leg feels bloated or swollen but there is not any visible swelling, just a sensation. I noticed this tonight. It is not painful but the sensaton is unusual for me. A few months ago my right foot actually did swell, or get inflamed, and that disppeared in a few days. Is this water retention? And if so, what to do? ## Have you consulted a doctor? Has it gotten any worse? It is very difficult to say what any feeling, or sensation may be. Only a doctor is going to be able to help you determine if it is a problem and requires treatment.

I had to take Xarelto due to two sinus venous thrombosis in my head. 8 weeks of heparin injections showed no side effects. But with the first day of taking Xarelto my body reacted by retaining water. Within the first three weeks I gained 24.46 lb hill exercising 5 times a week and eating as I always did. After retaining more and more water I stopped taking it after three months. I started with a weight of 120 lb at a height of 5''8 and now I weigh 157 lb. I have to ad that I started taking it in the middle of March and stopped taking it at the end of June. I was not able to loose any water/weight. I eat less than I always did before even while I exercise. All doctors couldn't find the one thing that changed through Xarelto. Has anybody ever experienced something like this wh...

I was given this for fluid retention, I already take procardia for blood pressure, should I be taking the hydrochlorot or another water pill? ## no, dont take another water pill it may interact to your other med.. try to talk to your doctor first.. ## HI, Sat! How are you? Any diuretic, aka water pill, is going to affect your blood pressure, not just this one. Learn more Hydrochlorothiazide details here. They are commonly used to help lower high blood pressure. If your doctor has prescribed both, then you should just be aware of it, so you can keep an eye on your blood pressure in case it goes too low and they should be monitoring you regularly. Are there any other questions or concerns?

can this also cause water retention - swollen ankles...?? ## No, it isn't listed as being a common side effect. However, it's difficult to say how any medication will affect any person that takes it. But, do you have high blood pressure? Do you drink a lot of fluids and/or take in a lot of sodium? There are many things that may cause edema. Do you take any other medications?
