I am 69 years old; a double amputee (BK) I was born with CMT and have had heart-related surgery seven times. I am in chronic pain and live 42 miles from my doctor. I am suppose to be "shelter in place" as I am a high risk patient. Yet, I must drive to the doctor's office every time I need to fill my prescription because a "hard copy" is required by my pharmacy. Are there any other options. ## Those who need to shelter in place are still allowed to leave the house to go to their doctor's appointments, if needed, as well as their pharmacy, grocery store, and etc. You just need to be extra careful about keeping your distance from other people, wash your hands regularly, and avoid touching your face. However, you should consult your doctor, as they may have a plan in...

So I live about 20 miles outside st. louis, missouri and seen a new pain management dr. He prescribed me the same thing my intern dr. gave me which was 50mcg fentanyl every 48 hours. He also prescribed me percocet 10/325 which doesn't agree with me nor anything in that class of meds, and I remember darvocet, which back in the early 90's 3 dr's were giving them to me n I was young n dumb then and it was the first pain pill I ever took. I was getting 180 a month u know that n between drinking at 29 I almost ended up dying from liver failure. The dr's could not believe that I walked in the er on my own much less that I was still alive as my liver stopped working. My enzymes we're like 6200. I was like is that high? Well put this way I don't know how many dr's ca...

How can I get my Dr. to understand I've built a tolerance to pain meds. Same dosage for 2 yrs . 80mgs of oxycontin and 30mgs of opana daily . I have severe osteoarthritis bursitis and fibromyaliga. Dr. says that's the maxi he can give me. Should I look for another pain Dr.?? ## What is the difference in the old oxycontin and the new?? How can I tell which I have? ## Gigi4121! How are you? The new Oxycontin tablets were reformulated to help make them more abuse proof and the old ones are no longer being manufactured, so it is fairly safe to say that if you've gotten them filled within the past year, you have the new tablets. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth an...

looking for doc in indianapolis area for pain meds. Fell off a horse and landedon my neck. My doc will only give injections. ## Hi! Sorry that you're in pain. Is there any chance that your doctor can refer you to someone else for pain management? The reason I'm asking is because you're in the part of the U.S. that was hit with the new regulations as of April 1st of this year, due to very high rates of over prescribing and improper prescribing of controlled substances…and due to these new regulations, general practice doctors are greatly restricted in what they can prescribe and how long they can prescribe it. Thus, anyone requiring long-term treatment for pain will need to be referred to a pain management specialist and the easiest way to get an appointment with one of...

I have been going to my doctor for several years he gives me pain medication for several conditions that I have. He agrees that I need a higher doses but refuses to give it to me. He said I need to go to a orthopedic doctor and let him give you a higher doses. Can I go to both for pain medication. One gives me Vicodin and one gives me percocet one is for pain and the other is break threw medicine what do you think. ## Hello, Pat! How are you? No, it is likely that your current doctor will stop prescribing and let your pain management be taken over by the new doctor. The FDA classifies this mediation as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I c...

I was on high pain medication (oxycodone/roxicodone, morphine and Xanax) before. At this point, any pain medication would help. My mother in law doctor retired and wrote her a script for a 30 day supply of 80 oc's and she can not get in to see her new doctor till july, she has a print out of six months showing that she has been on the meds, where in the Knoxville area is a doctor who will see her on short notice and refill her script for 30 days till she see's her new doctor? I can not bear to see her go thru withdraw ## It is going to be very hard to find a doctor to prescribe them as just a one time thing, with her not being their regular patient. It is highly possible that her new doctor won't want to prescribe them, regardless of the medical records she has. Does anyone have any ideas? ## Does anyone know of any physicians or pain clinics in south orange county that will Prescribe opiates (norco,...

Would a physician prescribe 800 mg ibuprofen to nursing mother knowingly? Infant 3 mos. Rosa ## Hello, Rosa! How are you? Yes, Ibuprofen can safely be taken by a nursing mother. When a nursing woman requires an NSAID, it is the preferred choice, because it is only secreted in breast milk in very small amounts and infants are usually given much higher doses for fever and teething pain. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach irritation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was accused of self medicating because i ran short on my meds at time of appt. this happened because i simply misunderstood the as needed part on bottle label and took a few at times when the meds wore off after 4 hours. I was supposed to take 1 every 6 hours only so the label mislead me, they cut me loose after a year of dealing with them with nothing to get me to another clinic and simply stated that i was a high risk. i think the main reason they cut me off is due to the fact that i have major respiratory issues so i guess this tells me that no one will help me over this and i guess it means that i will have to just die in major pain because they don't want to help me over these issues. so what am i supposed to do next? any light on this subject would be greatly appreciated. th...

when to prescrbe oxycotton ## from oxycodone to oxycotten ## Oxycodone is prescirbed for severe pain. Most times here in Texas you usually have to go to a pain management clinic as most M.D's are reluctant to prescribe it due to the bad reputation is has and the deaths related to it attributed to the drug abusers addicted to it and abusing it. Your best be is a pain management but watch you step there. They follow very strict guidelines. There has been alot of controversity surrounding this medication and its interaction with other meds. Be prepared to follow all rules and regulations should you give pain management a try. Hope you have insurance. The cost of pain management is high and so is the medication. Any slip up and you will be discharged from the clinic. Good Luck ## Same t...
