I'm researching pain meds for my knee pain after a replacement. ## Naproxen is an nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory. Naproxen is the generic name for Aleve, The difference is that Aleve is OTC because it is only 220 mg and Naproxen is prescription because it is 500 mg. Vicodin is a combination of hydrocodone and tylenol. Hydrocodone is a narcotic and can be addicting. You must have a prescription to get Vicodin. ## @original post, No, Naproxen is not stronger than Vicodin. Although it could probably compare to the acetaminophen in Vicodin, the hydrocodone is still a far more potent pain reliever in and of itself. I have been taking hydrocodone manufactured by Mallinckrodt for years, I recently renewed my rx and they gave me hydrocodone manufactured by Watson, I found these do NOT work as well. I called the pharmacy and they told Mallinckrodt discontinued producing hydrocodone. Is this true? anyone else taking generic tylenol 4 made by teva? my pharmacy just switched brands and taking ONE feels like i'm taking FOUR. but that's only every third pill... they dont feel consistent but regardless they feel WAYYYY over the regular strength of codeine. it feels like i'm taking codiene and vicodin at the same timme and i hate it. ## Is there any chance that the times when it seems to hit stronger are also times where you might have eaten less, or not eaten anything yet? I have low chronic back pain. My pain doctor has had me on vicodin 10mg/325 for almost a year now. I take two pills in the morning and two in the evening (4aday). Since I have been on them for so long, I feel like I am building a tolerance to them Once I tell my doctor that I think I need something stronger, what do you think he will upgrade me to? I really don't want him to give me more of these a day because of all the Tylenol in these things ... I know around 4000 mg a day is the danger limit, so I'm hoping he switches me to one of the 15 mg pills that have no Tylenol in it Just wondering if anyone else has had experience like this with their pain dr. Is Norco 10-325 as strong as Vicoden 10-660 for pain? ## The only difference is the Norco has 325 mgs Tylenol and the Vicodin 660 mgs.They both have the same amount of hydrocodone, 10 mgs. ## @Shep, BL is correct about the amount of Tylenol (Acetaminophen) in each medication. Therefore, the Vicodin would be stronger than the Norco. If your pain isn't severe, I personally recommend taking the Norco due to the fact that it contains less Tylenol (Acetaminophen). This is 30mg of codeine hcl, no Tylenol in it. These are hard to get unless you have a liver problem. There very addictive. ## Codeine is a narcotic pain reliever and, as such, it has a much of a danger of addiction as any other narcotic. I also wouldn't say they are necessarily harder to get, because they can also be prescribed by some doctors to prevent a liver problem in people that may not have one, but are at risk for it. This is a narcotic pain reliever, very strong and addictive. ## I wouldn't say they are "very strong", they are strong if you're not used to narcotic pain relievers, much stronger than a darvocet, tylenol 3, or even a plain vicodin 5/500, but weak compared to pain relievers such as percocet, roxycodone, morphine, dilaudid, demerol, oxycontin, fentanyl, and the many other stronger painkillers on the market. He gave you a dosage of 10/500 which means 10mg of hydocodone and 500 mg of actemiphin(tylenol) I just had hip surery a month ago and my surgen gave me that. It works great for pain, your pretty silly when your on it but it does work!!! The only problems I had was I was constipated for the first week after surgery. I have the white pill and also the blue pill marked with watson 540. Aren't they both the same except for a difference in the acetaminophen? ## Research I have gathered shows they are one in the same pill. Even the milligrams are the same.
