I have experienced chronic, generalized pain due to Fibromyalgia, Osteoarthritis, Osteoporosis, and various other maladies. I am only 55 years old and suffer from severe, advanced C.O.P.D. I have less than 30% usage of my lungs. I don't have long to live, so it is difficult to understand why these doctors are so paranoid re' prescribing!! I was prescribed Darvocet until it was removed from the market, and then placed on Vicodin. The Vicodin helped me enormously; pain free. I cannot take the medications approved by the FDA for Fibromyalgia (i.e., Lyrica, Cymbalta, etc.), as I experience adverse side effects. The FDA has requested that all such combination narcotic medications be changed to only contain a maximum of 325mgs of the Acetaminophen, due to the danger of liver toxicity and overdose toxicity. Some manufacturers have already begun to implement the change and they are all expected to have it completely by January of 2014. Thus, starting one of them now is likely not a good idea, anyway. If a person took 4 vicodin 5/500 how long would the side effects last because my grandmas dr. told my mom she could when she's in severe pain only once in 48hrs. ## It isn't going to last 48 hours, even if she takes that many, it is only going to last for maybe 6 to 8 hours, she may be lucky and get 10 hours of some pain relief, if her body processes it slowly. The main issue with these and taking so many of them, at once, is the Acetaminophen, it can be toxic in amounts of over 4 grams or 4,000mgs in a day and by taking 4 of these, she would be taking 2grams of it, at once. Most elderly people also process medications much slower than younger people, so it can stay in her body longer, so using that much too often could create serious ill health effects. They have been removed from the market, so no one can fill it for you. The best thing to do would be to see your doctor about getting a replacement prescription. My pharmicist said they were no longer made. ## The FDA has asked dr to no longer prescribe it with 500 mg acetaminophen but instead to use the mandated reduced 325 mg acetaminophen. The FDA has also asked pharmacists to contact the drs if a rx is written for the 500 mg before filling it. The hydrocodone and acetaminophen (Lortab, Vicodin, Norco) are still made. But, the amount of acetaminophen has been reduced. ## So can you take a Tylenol to get the same results since they lowered it to 325? The Hydrocodon Acetaminophen 5-500 works fairly well but is there a strong one available? ## Hi Jack, The dosage of Acetaminophen in Vicodin range from 500mg, 660, and 750mgs. While for Hydrocodone the max dosages I've seen are 7.5mg and 10mg respectively. I believe "Vicodin HP" contains a dosage combination of 660mg + 10mg. The maximum dosage for this medication is 1-2 pills every 4-6 hours depending on severity of pain and that information changes with the max dosage allowable for Acetaminophen... which is not to exceed 1gram (1000mg) per dose/or 4 grams (4000mg) per day. Is it safe to take warfarin Mg-4 and Hydrocodon-acetaminophen 5-500 together on the same day? ## Taking them together may increase your INR and the risk of bleeding, because the Acetaminophen may make your Warfarin more effective. which is stronger hydroco/acetamin 5-500 or Hydroco 10-500mg? Is it the same as Vicadin? I have a large tear in my rotator cuff. I just was given the 5-500mg. They told me it was Vicadin at the doctors office. I already had a bottle mostly untouched of the 10-55 because a doctor seemed worried that it was addictive and gave me tramadol which I can't say touches the pain. ## The one with the higher amount of the Hydrocodone is stronger, since it is the narcotic and the Acetminophen just helps it to work better. ive been working to reduce my daily methadone dosage for a year now, as I've been on maintenance. I'm down from 55 mg daily to only 15mg at this point and soon enough will be free of its clutches. I've been maintaining a clean lifestyle and I don't need a lecture on addiction. My question is--can Belviq be taken with Methadone? My doctor says it completely negates any opiate based or nRcotic pain medications in the brain. Last thing I need is to be thrown into sudden horrible withdrawals.
