Cefpodoxime is an oral, third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is active against most Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. Notable exceptions include Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococcus, and Bacteroides fragilis. Currently, it is only marketed as generic preparations in the US, according to the FDA Orange Book. Is this a canine antibiotic? ## In most cases, the same antibiotics are used for canines and humans. This pill contains 200mgs of Cefpodoxime, a generic for Vantin. This is an antibiotic. Some of the most common side effects include: drowsiness, rash, nausea and diarrhea. ## Thank you very much - my dog started this 3 days ago and he keeps vomiting a few hours after taking it - I was wondering if I should cut the tablet in 1/2 and give it to him 2x's a day instead of one? ## I suggest consult with the vet, they'll have a better idea of how to handle it.
