I am 61 years old with sugar level 140-180 fasting everyday 1 tablet daily after b/fast, medication started only 20 days back, is there any problems in taking melmet 500 sr for long period, I do get pain on the left hand at joints regularly once in started melmet ## I feel pain in abdomine after taking Melmet 500 SR after lunch.Is it side effect?

since i didn't have 500 mg in stock i cut 1000mg into half and gave to my mom then in the morning i saw on the cover that it shouldn't be cut, crush or chew the tablet and to swallow the whole....so was worried abt that ## Did she have any problems with it? The SR stands for sustained release, which means it is a time released formulation, so cutting or crushing it could cause someone to get too much of the medication, at once. This could result in severely lowered blood sugar and other medication complications. However, if she suffered no ill effects, you shouldn't have any reason to worry, but you should check with her doctor to be certain.

Hi. I have been diagnosed with PCOD and my gynaecologist has prescribed Melmet-500 to be taken daily after breakfast. I feel dizzy and I have nausea after I take it. I feel fine only after I take some juice or eat something. I had been tested for diabetes before and my blood sugar levels and HBA1C are normal.
