I have been on Tylenol 3's x 3- 4 tablets a night to be able to sleep through the night without waking in pain. I have been on this for 3 years and worried about the long term effects on my kidneys I am diabetic type 2 with severe neuropathy in feet and hands and also I have a smashed elbow resulting in a plate with 20 screws and a rotary unit (?) which is scheduled for a 2nd surgery in 3 weeks. The pain is unbearable and my Dr has prescribed percocet . My daughter is concerned and says the Tylenol 3 's are better for me than the percocet. Is this true? I've been taking 2 Norco 10s for years. I've just decided to try and switch to Tylenol 3s. For less Dr visits and refill purposes. While the Tylenol 3 has 30mg of codeine and the other has 10 mg of condone wouldn't the Tylenol 3 be stronger ## I have been taking Tylenol 3 for eight years, going 2 to 3 times a day to washroom, eat loads of fruit and fibre. I have to take T3 at least once a day a sometimes not at all Depending on my bowel movements. If I take 10/325 Norco, how many milligrams is it? 10? 100? 1000? ## To answer your question, 10/325 Norco contains 10 mg Hydrocodone (as well as 325 mg Acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol). my pain is too much to handle. the doctor cannot give me more than 30 tablets of hydrocodone/acetaminophen at a time. So I need to know how many Tylenol to take to help me. ## Hi Nikki, To my understanding, no amount of tylenol (acetaminophen) is equivalent to the effects of Hydrocodone, before experiencing what would be considered an overdose of acetaminophen - which can be extremely toxic to the liver. It sounds like your best bet would probably be to ask your doctor for a stronger pain medication (that you can take less of) or opt for a safer, more natural alternative that can be used as an adjunctive therapy to what you already take. I know a person that took a higher than recommended dose of Tylenol and they said that it equals up to 1 Hydrocodone. ## Hi Ann - There is no real equivalent dose between Tylenol (ingredient name Acetaminophen) versus Hydrocodone. They are two completely different drugs, plus the Acetaminophen is not even an opiate medication like Hydrocodone is. In fact, taking too much Acetaminophen puts the body at great risk of liver damage! So I hope that your friend is okay! There are some drugs which contain a combination of Acetaminophen + Hydrocodone (such as Vicodin and Norco), but in those drugs they act together. Can you also use liquid tylenol 500 mg over the counter together, alternating? ## You should not combine OTC tylenol with any prescription meds that also contain tylenol.
