I currently take atorvastatin for my cholesterol. Is it safe to start taking Turmeric for the inflammation of my arthritis? Is atorvastatin a blood thinner? ## No it is not a blood thinner, it is used solely to help lower cholesterol levels, although some recent studies have shown that elevated cholesterol levels are not as dangerous as we think, but many disagree, thus the jury is still out on that, so to speak. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and joint/muscle aches. As to taking it with Turmeric, I haven't been able to find any studies on that, but since it is used in many foods, I'd think the FDA would warn you if there was a problem. However, it is always best to double check with your doctor to be sure. It is also be...

I started taking turmeric (curcumin) for inflammation and I'm allergic to penicillin. Can I take the turmeric (curcumin)? ## They are not related, but it is always best to be cautious when you start taking anything new, especially over the counter supplements, since they are not usually tested for interactions, or contraindications with most prescription medications, and various health conditions. You should also be aware that Turmeric is not FDA approved to treat any condition, nor have any studies proven it effective. The best I can tell you is that it tastes great, when I cook with it, although it does have a habit of staining some plasticware, such as my steamer baskets. LOL It also makes a great substitute with other spices, if you can't afford Saffron, or just don't wa...

If I'm allergic to Bactrim, can I take glucosamine sulfate, methylsulfonylemethane, hyaluronan, boswellia serrata, white willow bark, turmeric root extract, cayenne. (All the ingredients found in Instaflex) ## Hello, Zory! How are you? One is a drug and the other is an over the counter supplement, which means the supplement really hasn't been evaluated to see if it may cause problems with certain allergies. Since there are some sulfa based ingredients, there is chance that you could react to it, if it was the Sulfamethoxazole in the Bactrim that you're allergic to, thus it would be best to check with your doctor, before taking it. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have R.A., my loving mother saw the ad for Arthri-d & bought it for me as a gift. I saw no harm in trying it because I have researched a lot of the herbs such as turmeric, frankincense etc. I have been taking it for 5 days & am having intestinal issues (gas, irritable bowel symptoms, headaches.) Are these common side effects from this supplement? ## There is really no way to answer that. Since they are considered supplements and not drugs, it is not required that they study the side effect profiles, so most of them aren't really know. If you have only experienced these since taking it, then I would suggest stopping it for a few days, to see if they go away. If they clear up, then you will have your answer. The actual ingredients, from what we have found on the internet are...

I too am feeling slight lower stomach pain after 1 week of taking ocid dsr. Gastroenterologist did not seem too concerned abt this. He asking me to take this twice a day for at least a month for my gerd in addition to the following home remedies: Drinking turmeric powder with pepper in some hot water after dinner. Also asked me to take a pinch of large fenugreek seeds to help in digestion and to take my dinner earlier. I find that reducing caffeine and chocolates help too. I plan to take ocid for 1 week only though as I'm wary to taking too many meds. I hope I heal soon. Good luck to u too

What is Zyflamend used for? It's a natural medicine. ## Zyflamend is an herbal supplement, so it is important to be aware that it is actually not proven to treat, or cure anything. If you have a medical condition that requires support, and treatment, you should always follow your doctor's instructions. It is listed as containing holy basil, turmeric, rosemary, hu zhang, Chinese goldthread, barberry, skullcap, and oregano. Some preliminary studies have shown that it helps with prostate cancer, and inflammation, but more studies are needed to see if it is really effective. Ref: Zyflamend Information It should not be taken if you are already on chemotherapy, or on other prescription medications. ## I'm looking for a natural substance to lower psa levels.

Have been taking lisinopril, 1st was 10mg, then increased to 20Mg, and last year decreased to 10mg. Mid last year diagnosed with Lymphoma stage 3, and began chemo rchop, through out treatment I felt weak, and 3 months after treatment still weak, dr said ok, but it got worse, could hardly stand up. About 4-5 months ago, I took some turmeric, ginger tea (seen in Dr Oz) and 2 days later developed heaviness in left leg and the numbness I had got worse. Then recently, increased Vitamin D3 from 1000 to 2000 per Dr advice and are getting dizzy constantly. I checked internet, so I stopped both immediately about 2 weeks ago. I want to go back with vitamin D3 1,000 but I still have dizziness and the leg heaviness which had gotten better a few weeks ago, is back on again. Should I discontinue for ...

I do take oxycodone 5 mg every 12 hours and I take naproxen 440 mg every 8 hours. I have swelling of my feet ankles and lower legs, mostly on the left. The anti-inflamatory properties of the naproxen doesn't seem to help the swelling to reduce at all. What could be inhibiting this? I am also type 2 diabetic and take 1000 mg twice a day. I also mix turmeric and ginger into my herbal tea, at least once per day. I use about 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon of those spices and 1 tbsp raw honey. ## Lisa, Has your doctor ever prescribed or recommended a diuretic like lasix ?
