I asked if they could call my Doctor and they said no that I would have to call him, so I did and was told they would call it in. The pharmacy gave me 3 pills until the Doctor called it in. Has anyone else experienced leg cramping all night long with this medicine. It's like a charlie horse cramping and it goes every 20 seconds all night long. I also take cozaar. ## Yes, I have experienced charlie horse cramping in my legs since using this medication. Not often but yes. ## IVE BEEN HAVING THE CHARLIE HORSE CRAMPS IN MY LEGS TOO....I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME... ## I just checked the monograph and this is not listed as a common/normal side effect. You may want to speak to the prescribing doctor regarding this, there are other options that could be prescribed that may not cause the same problem. A lot of time, nightime leg cramps are caused by a loss of Potassium in the body, however, this is SUPPOSED to be a Potassium sparing diuretic, so it really makes no sense. ## This ...

Hey, I was wondering if Triamterene hctz can help you lose weight? ## Hi Amberlee, Because Triamterene is a diuretic, I can honestly only see it helping you lose water weight temporally (as you'd obviously have to rehydrate sooner than later LOL). Personally I wouldn't encourage you to go down that route at all, but if you do, please be sure to consult a doctor first to go over proper/safe dosing protocols that suit your individual needs. Keep in mind too that this medication's primary intended use is for high blood pressure, so if your levels are already low or you don't know where they general range from, it would be imperative to have your blood pressure evaluated or monitored before starting treatment. I hope this helps! ## My doctor just told me she was putting me o...

i take sandoz triam and have to cut in half. which causes pill to break up in several pieces. i have a splitter. my question is there a lower dose i don't have to split? ## Hello, Wayne! How are you? Unfortunately, that is the lowest dose available of the Triamterene with Hydrochlorothiazide. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, increased urination and dehydration. Have you discussed it with your doctor? Perhaps you could switch to a different medication.

I mistakenly took a double dose of Triamterene. I need to know if I need to call my doctor. ## That is not an overdose amount, in theory, though it can always vary from person to person, depending on our tolerance and sensitivity to medications. Did you experience any adverse effects? The FDA warns that taking more than prescribed may cause nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dehydration, and hypotension. For future reference, when in doubt, it is always better to call your doctor, poison control, or your nearest poison control to be safe. ## Ha ha ha! Leave it to me!! That last part should have read emergency services, not a repeat of poison control!!! Very sorry!!! Can you please post back and let me know how you are doing? I'm worried!

Also has an empty bottle of her Nameda xr. I have no idea how long the bottle has been empty. Mom has moderate alzeimers. ## Hello, Tracey! How are you? I do not take triamterene every day as it says on the prescription, it does say as needed so I take it every other day or every two days, I have been getting constipated lately, and I wonder if I am ok in doing what I am doing with this prescription. thank you. ## Hello, Leslie! How are you? This is a diuretic and they can be prescribed and taken on an as needed basis, so taking it that way is fine, as long as your doctor approves. I have a standing prescription for one myself that's only to be taken as needed, because I dehydrate too easily to take it all the time. The FDA lists its typical side effect as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and increased urination. It's hard to say what may be causing the constipation. Are you on any other medications? Have your eati...

I have been on Triamterene for a month. I was using this for possible Menierre Disease. However, after a second opinion I was told it was not Menierres and to get off pill. Will I experience any withdrawal symptoms after being on it for a short time? ## How did you find out it wasn't Meneer's Disease? What is your diagnosis as of now? I was diagnosed with Meneer's Disease and get super dizzy and have to force myself to go to sleep. Even then I wake up with it still. It's the absolute worst feeling I don't wish it upon my worst enemy!!! I've tried every drug in that catorgy n as of now I'm on Promethazine. I BEGAN SUFFERING FROM MENIERE'S SYNDROME IN THE 1960'S. THE SYMPTONS RANGED FROM MILD TO VERY SEVERE. IT CONTINUED FOR YEARS. A DOCTOR PRESCRIBED TRIAMTERENE HCTZ 37.5. I WOULD SAY I HAVE NOT HAD AN EPISODE FOR 10 YEARS OR MORE. SUBSEQUENT DOCTORS HAD NO COMMENT EXCEPT TO SAY IF IT WORKS KEEP TAKING IT. LET ME HAVE YOUR THOUGHTS OR SIMILAR EXPERIENCE. ## Hi, Bill! I'm not a doctor, but from what I know of medication and medical information, Meniere's can sometimes be caused by a buildup of fluid in the ear, though it isn't known why such a buildup occurs or why it doesn't seem to go away… Thus, the reason this medication may help could be due to the HCTZ in it, Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic that's used to remove excess fluid from the body. It may h...

does this medicine expire. This is my detailed message ## Hello, CC! How are you? Yes, all medications have expiration dates, because they tend to lose effectiveness, with time and exposure to the elements that cause degradation, such as heat, light and moisture. For tablets and capsules, if they are in a bottle as dispensed by most pharmacies, it is one year from the date it was filled. However, if they are in the original factory sealed container, then they are usually good for 3 to 4 years. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, hypotension, increased urination and dehydration. Is there anything else I can help with?

I started taking Triamterene HCTZ 37.5-25mg each morning, along with plavix and asprin. I drink at least 100 oz of water every day, and I find myself retaining more fluid and urinating less. What am I doing wrong? ## Hello, Shelly! How are you? As detailed by the NIH, you are likely taking it more fluid than you are expelling. 100oz is a lot. The FDA lists the other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and hypotension. Are you on any other medications? How much do you take in of other liquids? Even fluids in your food counts.

I started this three days ago and I am not going to the bathroom anymore than normal, actually less. I drink around 12-14 bottles of water a day and should be going more? Was on lisinopril for 3.5 years and it just stopped working after a third round of botox inj. for migraines. I wanted to just try a water pill because losartan and clonidine made me feel dead for these past three weeks. BP 164/102-168/110. Took triamterene/hctz three times today cuz I feel I need it about every six hours, hands and feet still swollen and red not going to the bathroom but actually not feeling the BP is high. I'm confused as to why this is not working. Can you help? ## Hello, Melissa! How are you? It is going to take more than 3 days for it to reach its full level of effectiveness in your body, for y...

I went to refill my prescription and for the first time in 12 years it is "not available". I have been switched but is this shortage mean its been discontinued? I do not seem to be doing as well with the replacement (retaining fluid more) and want my old medicine back! ## It has not been discontinued, at this time, according to the reports that are listed by the FDA, but that could change. The manufacturers have had a shortage of the Triamterene, but they haven't given any explanation as to why and most reported that it would be back on the market in April and May, which has clearly not happened, yet. What medication were you switched to? ## I was switched to hydrochlorot 25 mg...pharmacy told me yesterday they are getting no info except still unavailable. Thanks ## Then the...

diet pills ## Are these 2 seperate drugs or both combined for a single pill? There is info for Traimterene and Phentermine seperately, not sure if they are ever combined into a single pill though. Jake ## Jacob is correct, these are not available in a single tablet, but they are available separately, via prescription. The FDA warns that Phentermine is a stimulant, so it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, and anorexia. Triamterene is listed as possibly causing side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Are there any other questions?

Is it safe to take Diovan and Triamterene/hctz together? I just failed a flight physical partly because the ME said these two drugs shouldn't be taken together!! I've been taking them together for about two years as prescribed by my PCP. Really want to get completely off meds but presume I'll need to go slowly. Any advise? Thanks ## It isn't that they shouldn't be taken together, but they can cause some problems, so your doctor must carefully consider the dosage and should be monitoring you regularly. Now, this information is only relevant to the medicine in general. When it comes to specific criteria, such as that related to a flight physical, it may be a prohibited combination, due to the problems that can be caused by using them together. The first is due the risk...
