Can't figure out why she was put on this. ( it's Friday, no talking to Doc til Monday). I missed one Dr. Apps with her and gets prescribed !! Any suggestions? Also has an empty bottle of her Nameda xr. I have no idea how long the bottle has been empty. Mom has moderate alzeimers. ## Hello, Tracey! How are you? I can imagine that must be somewhat confusing for you, so I'm happy to help. Triamterene HCTZ is also used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. I BEGAN SUFFERING FROM MENIERE'S SYNDROME IN THE 1960'S. THE SYMPTONS RANGED FROM MILD TO VERY SEVERE. IT CONTINUED FOR YEARS. A DOCTOR PRESCRIBED TRIAMTERENE HCTZ 37.5. I WOULD SAY I HAVE NOT HAD AN EPISODE FOR 10 YEARS OR MORE. SUBSEQUENT DOCTORS HAD NO COMMENT EXCEPT TO SAY IF IT WORKS KEEP TAKING IT. LET ME HAVE YOUR THOUGHTS OR SIMILAR EXPERIENCE. ## Hi, Bill! I'm not a doctor, but from what I know of medication and medical information, Meniere's can sometimes be caused by a buildup of fluid in the ear, though it isn't known why such a buildup occurs or why it doesn't seem to go away… Thus, the reason this medication may help could be due to the HCTZ in it, Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic that's used to remove excess fluid from the body. It may h...

I went to refill my prescription and for the first time in 12 years it is "not available". I have been switched but is this shortage mean its been discontinued? I do not seem to be doing as well with the replacement (retaining fluid more) and want my old medicine back! ## It has not been discontinued, at this time, according to the reports that are listed by the FDA, but that could change. The manufacturers have had a shortage of the Triamterene, but they haven't given any explanation as to why and most reported that it would be back on the market in April and May, which has clearly not happened, yet. What medication were you switched to? ## I was switched to hydrochlorot 25 mg...pharmacy told me yesterday they are getting no info except still unavailable. Thanks ## Then the...

Is it safe to take Diovan and Triamterene/hctz together? I just failed a flight physical partly because the ME said these two drugs shouldn't be taken together!! I've been taking them together for about two years as prescribed by my PCP. Really want to get completely off meds but presume I'll need to go slowly. Any advise? Thanks ## It isn't that they shouldn't be taken together, but they can cause some problems, so your doctor must carefully consider the dosage and should be monitoring you regularly. Now, this information is only relevant to the medicine in general. When it comes to specific criteria, such as that related to a flight physical, it may be a prohibited combination, due to the problems that can be caused by using them together. The first is due the risk...

Hello, I have stenosis of the left and right ICA. The left is 75% blocked and right 50% blocked. I possibly have Moyamoya, as well.(Hence the stenosis) My family doctor just switched me to this combo because after being on 50MEQ of potassium, I finally reached a normal level range of potassium. Is this something I should revisit with my doctor? I can't afford anymore narrowing! They are still trying to figure me out. ## Hello, Sheryl! How are you? I've not found anything listed in the side effects provided by the FDA that says this medication may cause more narrowing. Its typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dehydration and increased urination. Have you consulted a cardiologist?

Hey, I was wondering if Triamterene hctz can help you lose weight? ## Hi Amberlee, Because Triamterene is a diuretic, I can honestly only see it helping you lose water weight temporally (as you'd obviously have to rehydrate sooner than later LOL). Personally I wouldn't encourage you to go down that route at all, but if you do, please be sure to consult a doctor first to go over proper/safe dosing protocols that suit your individual needs. Keep in mind too that this medication's primary intended use is for high blood pressure, so if your levels are already low or you don't know where they general range from, it would be imperative to have your blood pressure evaluated or monitored before starting treatment. I hope this helps! ## My doctor just told me she was putting me o...

Prescribed for high blood pressure ## I had been taking Triamterence-Hctz 37.5-25mg It was a green and yellow cap and I had no problmes. The last refill was a green pill and now my legs retaining water. What is the difference btween tge pills? ## This medication is a combination of two different diuretics that are used to help treat conditions such as high blood pressure, edema and congestive heart failure. You can learn more Triamterene details here and you can learn more Hydrochlorothiazide details here. The most common side effects are nausea, dizziness, headache and dehydration. As to Karen's question, there is really no way to answer that without knowing more specifics, such as the markings on the tablets, so someone can double check what they contain. Thus, if you have a simil...

I have been taking triamterene/hctz for over 10 years. My doctor at the time put me on it for water retention. I recently had to switch doctors and she wouldn't refill it for me because she says it's not good for my health. Well the first day I was off the med, I started retaining a lot of water in my fingers legs feet. If I want to reduce the retention, I have to get off my feet and elevate them. I am so frustrated and unhappy and uncomfortable and am worried the retention is always going to be a problem. Anyone else have this happen and can help me with info what to do? I am thinking of going back to one of the doctors I had been going to knowing she will prescribe me some kind of diuretic ## Hello, Donna! How are you? Yes, letting retention continue like that can be very dang...

I suffer from Meniere's disease. I took Triamterene for a week and both times when I took with Meclizine, I had either a vertigo attack and last night I fainted. Does anybody know any interactions between these 2 medications? ## Hello, Antonio! How are you? I didn't find any interactions or problems listed between these medications, but it is always best to double check to be sure. The vertigo and fainting may be due to the Meniere's itself, according to the NIH, it can cause those symptoms, in some people that take it. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hi: My doctor just prescribed Triamterene for my dizziness and possible Meniere's or vestibulary migraine and I also take meclizine when needed. Hydrochlorothiazide, HCTZ + Triamterene Drug Index

Hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene, also known as co-triamterzide, is a fixed-dose combination medication of hydrochlorothiazide and triamterene.[1][2][3] It is used to treat high blood pressure and edema (swelling).[1][2][3] Specifically it is used in those who develop low blood potassium (hypokalemia) when on only hydrochlorothiazide.[1][2] It is taken by mouth.&#...

Is hydrochlorothiazide 25mg / triamterene 37.5mg tabs by Sandoz, greenish blue? ## Drug manufacturers can change the color or shape of any pill over a period of time without prior notice, so this is definitely something that you cannot asses unless you have the pill in your possession. Alternatively, if you can provide me the imprints and shape of the pill, I can look it up for you in a drug database and get back to you with any of these details. ## My mother has been on Triamterene/HCTZ 37.5/25 capsules for many years. The drug is manufactured by Sandoz. When she refilled the drug this weekend, she received tablets, not the capsules she had been getting. She is 86 years old, and concerned about possible side effects of changing the medication form. Are the capsules still available? ## ...

Where is the manufacture of Actavis generic drug, Triamterene-HCTZ (37.5-25 mg) tablets before distribution? ## Hello Ro, I'm having a hard time determining what your question is. Actavis is the manufacturer/labeler of this medication so they are the source of the pill prior to distribution. If you are asking about the location of the Actavis plant that manufactured your pill it would be difficult to say as they have plants all around the world to include Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Northern-Ireland, Italy, Malta, Puerto Rico, Romania, Singapore, Serbia, Thailand, the UK and the US. One way that you could trace the origin of your medication is to find the batch number on the package that the medicine came in ...

I have been taking those two pills in the same dose for over two years now,is it safe to be on the water pill for such a long period of time, also are they still making that dose of water pill now.thank you for the info. ## Have you discussed this with your doctor? Only you and your doctor can decide what medication and for how long, is safe for you. There can be risks associated with the long term use of any medication, but the risks are usually far greater if you leave a dangerous medical condition untreated. As to the specific dosage, as far as I know it is still available, but you may want to check with your pharmacy to be certain.

I have been prescribed this medication for inner ear treatment. My doctor told me to take a pill at about 8 o'clock in the morning because this medication will make me go to the ladies room 3 times more often than I usually do. I said that I don't need to go more often than I do because it was already many times more than what is normal. Even during the night time I'm going every 1-2 hours on some nights, but sometimes don't get up and just use the bathroom normally: before going to bed and after I get up. Some nights I can go just 1 time during my sleep cycle. My doctor still thinks that I need to take this medication daily anyway. I take it now like he prescribed, but received the opposite effect. After talking a pill at 8 o'clock in the morning I go to the bathroo...
