My doctor just suggested since my trazodone isn't working anymore and causing weird dreams to nightmares that I try melatonin. I don't know much about melatonin and if it works. I have no idea on what dosage I should try and if it interacts with any of my other meds. ## Hello, Sunshine! How are you? The dosage is generally anywhere from 1 to 3mgs a night, so if your doctor approves, you may want to start low and see what works for you. What other medications do you take? If you can post back with this information, I can check for interactions or problems for you. The FDA classifies Melatonin as a supplement and it's only known side effect is drowsiness. ## I suffer from really bad insomnia I been taking lunesta for about 15 years and I took trazadone also as a add on. I just read on Web md that the Fda Now considers trazadone a narcotic. Is this true? ## Hello, Mcky! How are you? No, Trazodone is an SARI class antidepressant. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes. It is possible that the person who wrote what you read may have confused it with Tramadol, which is a very common error. Tramadol has been reclassified several times and is now considered an opioid, due to the fact that it is very closely related to narcotics and the FDA has found it to be habit forming. Is there anything else I can help with?

What is in trazodone? Is it minerals, plant derivatives, or synthesized chemicals? If so, what minerals, derivatives, or chemicals go into it? ## Interesting that there were no answers. I also want to know. ## Here's what I found so far: "Trazodone hydrochloride was originally synthesized in 1966 by Palazzo and Silvestrini in the chemical laboratories of the firm Francesco Angelini. The molecule consists of a triazolopyridine ring and a phenyl piperazinylalkyi moiety. It is the first trazolopyridine derivative to be used clinically, and therefore, represents a new chemical class of antidepressant drugs. its development was a result of an organized approach rather than fortuitous discovery and was based on the hypothesis that the mechanisms responsible for physical and mental pain...

I have been taking ic tranzodone 50 mg to help me sleep for about 2 years. Can it become habit forming? ## No, it is not habit forming. It is NOT a controlled substance. Often it is used off-label as a sleep aid when doctors, for some reason or another dont want to prescribe a controlled substance. It is not a sleep medication. It is a mood elevator. Good Luck. ## Trazodone is an SARI class antidepressant, that as was stated, is also sometimes used to treat insomnia. And it is not habit forming in the concept that it is addictive, however, your body does get dependent on any substance that you ingest regularly, from your morning coffee to a medication and, if you stop taking it suddenly, you can experience some withdrawal effects, because your body does have to readjust to not having it,...

I took Nefazodone for years and it worked well for me. After hearing it may be pulled from the market, I've tried many other antidepressents, with no success. I'm now back to an old one Trazodone @ 125 mg and even though it's about 3 weeks into it, I seem to be getting worse instead of better. I liked my Nefazodone (Serzone). I still have some from earlier. Would it hurt to take a small dosage of Nefazodone with the Trazodone? I'm feeling so bad, sad, and anxious that I'm wanting relief, soon. ## Generally, it is best not to mix them, unless your doctor specifically decides it is safe, or necessary for you to do so. Are they the same active ingredient? My doctor prescribed me a small dose of Naltrexone for MS and possibly Lupus. My mom takes Trazodone, so I would like to know if they have the same active ingredient. ## Hi AB, Both of these drugs are actually very different from one another (i.e. - they do not contain the same ingredients). Trazodone is in a class of medications called serotonin modulators, and is used to treat depression. Naltrexone is in a class of medications called opiate antagonists, used primarily in the management of alcohol dependence and opioid dependence.
