I have been taking trazadone for 2 weeks for sleeping 25mg-50mg a day. I last had 25mg at 23.30 last night and would like to drink this evening frlm 7pm. Obviously I wont take my trazadone tonight but will I be okay to drink? Will it be out of my system? Thanks. ## It is best not to mix it will alcohol, even by skipping the next dose. It can aggravate the side effects, making you experience more nausea, dizziness and drowsiness than usual. However, if your doctor approves of your imbibing, please make sure that you will not be driving or operating heavy machinery. The FDA lists the other typical side effects of this medication as possibly including dry mouth, headache and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

My doctor put me on this, does anyone know anything about this drug ? ## Trazadone is an old antidepressent, I believe it is in the trycilic family. Do you have insomnia? Are you depressed, I am asking because susally it is now given to people for sleep because it is not addictive. I don't even know if it is used for depression anymore. Your best bet would be to call your doctor back and ask him/her to explain why you were prescribed trazadone,,Hope this helps Pat ## Trazodone is a generic for Desyrel, it is not a tricyclic antidepressant, however it is an antidepressant, which is also used to treat insomnia. Some of the most common side effects include: nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and headache.

I have a son with autism and he is in Riperdal. Initially cured sleep problems but seems to not be working as effectively. U of M doctor said trezadone is safer than Clonidine but have not tried it yet. My name is Sue, & I myself have taken Trazadone. It belongs to the Benzodiazapan family. It didn't make me lose weight, quite the opposite. In 11 months I have gained a total of 85 lbs. I went to the doctor & he told me to quit eating & exercise. So I felt that I could trust what he said because hes a DR. Finally I went to a different Dr. & he prescribed me Effexor XR and ever since, (27 days ago) I have lost 14 lbs. I'm no Dr. but it worked for me so ask your Dr. about it. ## sue, thanks for the posting i was wondering if it could be keeping me from losing weight. actually they have me on it to help me sleep at night. they had be on doxipin before didnt loose weight for a whole year and craved sweets and this was shortly after my gastric bypass then i read the s...

Is anyone else worried about the possible side effects of tardives dyskinesia or akathesia or dystonia? Does anyone know how rare it is to get these on a lower dose of 50 mg. for sleep? Please share if you have encouraging info on this. I have anxiety & I worry every time I have any facial twitches or unusal sensations, likely caused by my anxiety. Otherwise, it does help for sleep. :~) I've taken it for 3 years for insomnia. ## They are very rare side effects, anyway, which means they would be even less likely to occur at the lower doses. I'm not going to try to tell you there isn't any risk, but if you've already been taking it for years, that means your risk of developing them is even lower. Learn more Trazodone details here. I recently went to my Dr... Not sleeping at all some nights, up and down continuously. The Doc prescribed 3 mg of Lunestra couldn't believe how good it is, has a nasty taste if ya keep in your mouth very long but going to sleep in 20 minutes waking 7 hrs later is one f the best feelings I've ever had...wake up no druggy feeling whatsoever, just need a cup of coffee! Anyway got news my insurance won't pay for it so the Doc prescribed Trazadone! Any thoughts? Thanks much! ## Trazodone is an antidepressant that is commonly used to help with insomnia, since it can cause drowsiness as a side effect, according to FDA reports, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight changes. gone off serequel and they put me on trazadone. (50mg). I does nothing and yet they say 2 will give hallucinations. what can I do. I cannot sleep w/ 1 of the trazadone. ## That's odd, it can be given in doses much higher than that, it's approved to be used for some conditions in up to 400mgs a day. The FDA classifies Trazodone as a tetracyclic antidepressant that is also commonly used to treat insomnia. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, weight changes, mood swings and dry mouth. However, they may be being cautious, since you've just recently gone off the Seroquel, you may need to give it more time, before the dosage can be raised. Your problems sleeping could also be aggravated by coming off of it. Are you on any other medications?

My doctor prescribed 50 mg of Trazadone to help me sleep. I have horrible insomnia, had it for years. I started taking it like a month ago. At first it worked wonderfully, was able to fall asleep and while I still woke many times was able to get right back to sleep. Felt like a new person! Now suddenly it's stopped working! I'm wide awake every night till about 4 am, then up at 6 for the day. This sucks! I should add I also take Paxil during the day for anxiety. What should I do? Is this normal? I was all set to take this pill forever, didn't think it would quit working so quickly. Thanks for any input/advice! ## Hello, Beth! How are you? Has anything else change regarding your sleep habits? Anything in your diet? It could be that it you just need a higher dosage. Have you c...

Does anyone know anything I can take OTC that works in the way trazadone 50 mg does? Ambien never helped and all the other Rx for sleep....I do also know this is an antidepressant. I just kicked methadone after some years so my Rx ran out early. Haven't been sleeping at all...thanks ?? ## Unfortunately, no there isn't an OTC medication that will work like it does, that's why they are OTC and these others require prescriptions. The FDA warns that most of these carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, mood changes, and sedation. There are some medications available OTC to help with insomnia, have you tried any of them? Are you on any other medications? ## Verwon- Thanks for your reply melatonin does not work for m...

I am taking 4 mg of dilaudid and 100 mg of trazadone and I can't sleep. I can't keep my eyes open but just toss and turn ## I had been taking Trazadone for years and I really felt it helped me get to sleep but did not work as well keeping me asleep. ## Michelle, are you sure that you aren't sleeping, or is it possible that you are and are just having very vivid dreams that you aren't? That, coupled with extreme restlessness would make you exhausted and could make you think you aren't sleeping at all. Learn more Trazodone details here. Learn more Dilaudid details here. Hi there, i have been taking fluoxetine 60mg and 15mg of mirtazapine for quite some time now, unfortunately I'm not sleeping well at all, so I've been to see my doctor and she has told me to stop the mirtazapine straight away and reduce my fluoxetine and gradually introduce the trazadone from 50mg moving up to 100mg possibly 150mg if I feel I need it. I was just wondering if anyone could give me any advice if they have had anything similar with there medication, it's just that I'm so used to taking my fluoxetine, thanks kaz ## My main concern is how drowsy I get when I wake the next morning ## can lyrica mirtazapine and prosac be taken together. im not really sure about this and i am worried. my psychiatris put me on all 3.again ## Trazodone is often used, when someone b...

Can Trazadone be used to treat a chronic cough like amitriptyline? ## Based on my research Trazodone is indicated for: Clinical depression with or without anxiety. Insomnia, Fibromyalgia, to aid in sleeping. Control of nightmares or other sleep disturbances. Amitriptyline can also be used as a sleeping aid in small doses. I did not know either of them had an off label use for chronic cough? correct me if I'm wrong, but I personally haven't seen anything stating otherwise. That said, I don't think it is specifically indicated to help with coughing; but if you personally find that it has been working for you then I'd advise you to contact your doctor who prescribed it, to give you the OK to continue using it for that. I just had a bunionectomy today and the doctor have me oxycodone - acetaminophen 5-325 and meloxicam for pain and inflammation. I have already been taking the trazadone 100mg for sleep at night. In the mornings I take effexor for depression and topiramate for migraines. Please let me knowif ii can take the pain mes with the trazadone ## Hello, Based on my research there are potentially unsafe drug interactions listed between Oxycodone and Trazodone; as well as Effexor (venlafaxine) and Trazodone. Apparently, taking either of these drug combinations together can increase your risk of developing serious symptoms associated with serotonin syndrome. Due to the severe nature of serotonin syndrome, it sounds like your best bet would be to sit down with your doctor and talk about these concern...

drug namedmylan-zopiclone 7.5mg. given to me for sleep. Would like to know if addiction is likely from this drug. ## Yes, Zopiclone can also be addictive. It was originally thought that it wasn't, however, many people did end up having problems with it that resulted in addiction. You can read more about it here: This is primarily why it is usually prescribed on an as needed basis, rather than as something you should take regularly. How did your doctor tell you to use it?

I have a white triangle shaped pill with 50 50 50 on one side and Pliva 441 on the other side. Is it a sleeping pill? ## This is Trazadone 150mgs, it breaks into 3 seperate triangles so you can split the dose if you can't handle all of it at once. It is a generic for the antidepressant Desyrel, and yes, it will knock you out if you have trouble sleeping or have insomnia. ## i am not able to get gud nite sleep so i use 0.5 to 1 mg alphrax daily IS IT HARMFUL OTHERWISE SUGGEST SAFE PILL

I have read the leaflet that came w/ my meds. Its listed as an antidepressant but was prescribed to me for insomnia. Two questions now. 1. Do I have to take it every night? 2. How worried should I be about the side effects? Frankly, I've put off taking it because I've never been diagnosed w/ depression, just insomnia & migraine. Any concise info you can provide would be great! Just speak to me like a person, not a doctor. Thanks! ## Trazadone. First off Trazadone is a cocaine withdrawal pill. And I guess it is prescribed for insomnia as well. My doctor gave it to me to help me sleep. It most definitely put me to sleep. But the bad, bad, bad thing about this medication is it stops your nose up to point where its impossible to breath. The first time I took it I knew exactly ho...

My dr. Wants me to stop my 200mg trazadone taken nightly for depression anxiety and sleep. And start taking 15 mg temazepam at night. Is it safe to just stop the trazadone like that. ## Hello, Scared! How are you? Stopping it abruptly might cause some withdrawal and rebound effects, but your doctor might be hoping to stave those off with the addition of the Temazepam. It is a benzodiazepine that can be used to treat the same types of problems, but it does carry the risk of being habit forming. It may also cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability. Learn more Temazepam details here. Have you discussed your concerns with your doctor?

I'm taking clonezapam (1 and a half) and 2 1/2 trazadone for sleep. Because I suffer from bursitis, I also take an Aleve. Will this harm my body? Thanks for your help ## Hello, Eileen! How are you? You shouldn't take the Trazodone with the Aleve, they increase the toxicity of each other, which could be dangerous. From what I can find, the only over the counter pain reliever you could take with it is Acetaminophen/Tylenol, so you may want to ask your doctor about taking it. Is there anything else I can help with?
