Tramadol Shelf Life

I have the above which was prescribed for pain for surgery I had in 2011. Is this drug still safe and effective? ## Hello, Trina! How are you? If it is in a bottle as dispensed by your pharmacy, then it would have expired one year from the date it was dispensed to you. After that, it begins to lose potency and will not work as well. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## This medication was used and there is still half the medication left will the pharmacy take them back and replace them if I pay for it

I was given Oramoph back in January 2012 for acute pain, but was then managing well with Tramadol so put it in the cupboard, I am now in need of it once again but it says dispose 3 months after opening. Would I come to ay harm if i took it now? ## It may make you sick, as in causing nausea and vomiting. It likely will not work for your pain. Liquid medications have a very short shelf life, that's why the expiration date was 3 months, after that, they lose efficacy very quickly. Learn more Oramorph information here.
