I have had a chronic debilitating cough on and off for 15 years. Last 5 years was constant. After many chest X rays and tests I was prescribed Tramadol 50mg morning and night. After hours of taking 1st tablet cough was gone. I do not want to be on Tramadol forever. I have tried to decrease my tablets slowly under doctors supervision but when I get down to omitting 2 a week cough is back. Do I puish through or is there something else for the cough. But in regards to their individual potency, Tramadol is often touted as a much weaker pain medication than your typical narcotic, such as Norco (M357). Comments from other people have also mentioned that Tramadol should probably be considered an over-the-counter medication relative to the dose. If you haven't tried either medication yet, it may be best to talk to your doctor first about giving each of them a trial run, to see how your body responds.
