I been taking topiramate 25 two to three time a day, as needed for headaches after getting hit in the head by metal fence panels and having a headache ever since and two rear ended car accidents . After a increasing for one a day then two, The more i take them the more the headaches pain in increases is this a side effect. So i've cut the doae down to 1 a day but that doesn't change a thing. Any advice ## Hello, Wayne! How are you doing? Has there been any change? If lowering the amount you were taking hasn't helped, then I am inclined to suspect that it may be a worsening of your condition and unrelated to the medication. I am not a doctor, so I can't say definitively, but I would suggest having it checked out. However, as detailed by the FDA and NIH, some medications c...

I was on topiramate for the last 2 1/2 years for migraines. I am a therapist and was getting pretty fed up with the cognitive side effects, as well as hope to try and have a baby in the next year so I stopped taking it. Cognitive side effects went away immediately for me, however I have gained 10 lbs in the last 3 weeks. I read about this and was worried, but given the fact that I never really lost much weight on the drug, I didn't think it would effect me in that way. Just be warned, you may love the weight loss now, but it comes back on when you stop it even if you are eating right and exercising! ## Although weight loss is listed as a general side effect of Topiramate, for some reason I get the sense that this medication plays with your hormones as well; which would explain why t...

Does the topiramate help back pain because ive just been changed to pain management and my new doctor just changed me from tramadol to topiramate 50 mg and I haven't seen anything about back pain on here. Can someone help me before I start taking this? ## It can sometimes help with certain types of nerve pain, according to FDA reports, it is also used to help prevent seizures. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, mood changes, and weight changes. (NDC 0245-0708) The only way to really discover how it will work for you is by trying it. Have you started taking it, yet? ## I am not a doctor. I can only share my personal experience and opinion. I take Topamax (the branded version of Topiramate) for a seizure disorder. I'm using Tegretol combined with Topiramate, and further more I have so more proplems as are described on leaflefs! One of them and the most important as combination of Carbamazepin (Tegretol) with Topiramate (Topamax), couse might have a lot side effect, couse one of the most important I think, is PLASMA LOW CONCENTRATION, and more efects! In each leaflets the describtions are, but do not taken into cosiderations by Albanian's doctors. Or better show negligence about that! Anyhow, or in any case repercussion of all that, we're obliged to carry on back, couse nothing is doing better! Please recommend me what can I do the better! Thank you!

I was recently prescribed Topiramate 25mg tablet to aid in post-concussion. After taking 1 pill last night, I am experiencing sharp chest pains, feeling like a bad case of heartburn. Is this a common reaction? I hesitate to take another pill again as I don't feel this is tolerable. ## Hi Teddy, Based on my research, chest pain and heartburn are both listed as side effects of Topiramate. Of the two side effects, chest pain is actually regarded as something serious that should be reported to your doctor immediately. Referenced from: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a697012.html#side-effects In my opinion, it probably wouldn't be wise to take any more than you have to until you're able to get ahold of your doctor. Hopefully he or she can then suggest a safer alternative in...

My daughter got a seizure at her age of 2 years & 6 months. At that time I had hospitalized her and the doctors advised us some diagnostics for blood culture, blood test, UA, along with CTscan & EEG and they confirmed that my daughter is facing Partial Epilepsy. My daughter is now 6 years old and she is taking oxetol with topiramate from then. I have already made 12 EEG test of her and a little improvement in the report. But the doctor always confirm me that she would be cured within 3-5 years of her medication. In the meantime I have consulted with another pediatric neurologist and he told me that partial epilepsy is not completely cure-able. She have to take medicine through out her whole life. Can you please ensure me whether this partial epilepsy cure-able or not? Also pleas...

I recently had to change pain drs b/c mine closed his practice. I have been fighting w/my WC company to detox from the pain meds I take for the last 5 years b/c I'm having a lot of detrimental secondary side effects. The new doc's PA is having me come off of the Topiramate (1200 mg daily) to 400mg daily in one month. This seems a little crazy fast to me. When I requested to go slower, she accused me of being argumentative =/ Has anyone else had this kind of experience? I also am on Methadone 40 mg, down from 60 & Fentanyl patch, 50 mpg, down from 100. Any feedback would be welcome! ## Hello, Syd! How are you doing? There is a risk of seizures, if you cut down on the Topiramate too fast, so you are right to want to be cautious. Have you tried speaking to the doctor, rather th...

I started topiramate (topamax) 6 weeks ago for migraines and went from 25 to 50mg after 2 weeks because I was doing fine on it but the last 4 weeks I’ve stayed at 50mg because I was feeling tired/foggy, but now suddenly over the last 9 days I’ve had cold-like symptoms, sore breasts, twitchy upper left back, awful backache (U/A checked out as clear), tummy ache/pains, pain under my ribs and nausea...I am feeling very anxious about it all. I went back to the gp today who suggested I come off of it and let everything settle down and then try again later if I want to (I don’t!). Is this normal? Anyone else get these side effects after a few weeks on the tablets? Thank you. ## Yes, those can be side effects, according to NIH reports, you may also experience headache, dry mo...

I've been prescribed the generic version of Topamax... The mfg. is zydus, but I'm afraid to take them after reading a lot of bad reviews... Has anyone been successful with this pill and mfg.? ## While there can be differences from one generic to another, it can vary from person to person, so the only way to find out how it works for you is by actually trying it. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and weight changes. Have you tried taking it, yet? Are you on any other medications?

I took Topiramate for seven days. On the eighth day I had pressure that went up to 60 and 70 in my eyes and ended up in the hospital. They couldn't figure out what was wrong. It took them eight hours to figure out the problem. I was blind for three days. Developed ocular angular closure glaucoma. Ended up with cataracts in both eyes two eyes surgeries and now permanently dilated eyes. Cannot drive at night anymore light outside is very painful and has reduced my quality of life. Would love to find an attorney that would be willing to take on the hospital and the drug company. It's so unfair when these things happen to you and nobody has to pay for them but you. ## Hello, Tiger6! How are you? I am very sorry about what happened. Hello, I've been taking Topiramate/Topamax for about 14 years. When is 'too long' as far as stopping the medication? I feel as though I have so much of the drug in my body already that it may need a break. ## Hello, Vicki! How are you? That's not actually how it works, your body doesn't keep storing more and more of the medication, that's why you have to take regular doses. Our bodies process stuff out, after a certain period of time. As to how long is too long, that is entirely up to your and your doctor. Only the two of you can decide how long you should continue taking it. Have you discussed your concerns with them? The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, clumsiness, drowsiness, red eyes and memory problems. ## T...

I was recently prescribed 25mg 1x daily to aid in weight loss. After 4 weeks of taking the medication with no side effects, this past weekend I noticed blurriness in the eyes and trails when I turned my head from left to right. I've also been having a tough time just focusing on objects. I've now been off of the medication for 4 days.Since then I've been to my eye doctor, had a full dilation, exam, etc. My eyes, optic nerves, etc. are all 100% healthy. Has anyone else suffered this particular side effect? If so, how long does it take for normal vision to return? ## Yes, this medication has been known to cause various ocular side effects, including blurred vision, visual disturbance, and reduce acuity, according to NIH reports. I have had a migraine that lasted just about 3 days, couldnt figure out what was wrong and why am I getting them so much. I finally saw a dr that i was very comfortable with, and she first tried me on firocet, had the generic version, and was ok at first but started to get worse.
