I used Bactrim; it takes more time to work than clindamycin. It has taken four days for the swelling to go down, but it has gone down and is almost normal now. I have double strength pills and will take them 2x a day for ten days. I also used the clove oil on my gums and that is working very well. They are going from red to pink again. Apparently the usual adult dose for bacterial infections is listed as being anywhere from 250 to 500mgs every 6 hours; to be taken for up to 1-3 weeks, depending on the severity of the infection. However, these exact figures are generally something your doctor/dentist would determine upon a closer examination. I have found that the anacardic acids in raw cashew nuts and maybe mangoes do an excellent job of curing an abscess from gram positive bacteria, which are the most prevalent cause of tooth decay and tooth aches. It is conceivable that mango fruits may have sufficient anacardic acids as well. I wrote an article about it, and it is also discussed briefly in the 2006 edition of Medical Hypotheses, 65; 289-292. I would like to urge you to explore making these medicines available in the pure form from pharmacies. This would be especially valuable since these medicines would probably prove to be valuable against other gram positive diseases such as acne, leprosy, streptococci, Chlamydia trachomatis, and maybe even tuberculosis as well. My mother has an abscess tooth and there is not enough left to pull. She does not have insurance so she can not pay to get it cut out. She is prescribed an antibiotic but cannot afford it. I had an infection a few weeks ago and still have some of my antibiotics left and i need to know if she can take them for this. ## Having 'some' of your antibiotics isn't going to be enough to give her a full course and destroy the infection. (You should have finished all of them, when you were taking them, actually.) If the infection is still there after the 5 days of antibiotics, you'll want to speak with your doctor. Extreme tooth ache (infection) reoccurring of course. The only option to eliminate the pain and infection is a dentist. Of course I do not have that option right now. I haven't for a long time. Thus reoccurring tooth pain(infection). I have taken Clindamycin in the past for a tooth infection. But right now I only have the Sulfameth-Trimethoprim 800/160mg tabs. From what I have read it is not often prescribed for a tooth infection. But for a bacterial infection yes. So I am giving it a try. If it works I will update you. Will this medicine help prevent infections after having teeth pulled I just had total extractions and was wworried about infections will this help ## Hi Tjay, Based on my research, antibiotics can be used to treat a tooth infection as well as prevent infections in some cases. I recommend that you just keep your mouth as clean and hygienic as possible, you can try rinsing with hydrogen peroxide if your dentist allows. Clove essential is also something you may want to look into trying because it does have antibacterial properties and is great for hygiene of the gums of teeth. Antibiotics are so harsh on the body and can cause lots of other issues, I wouldn't use them unless you have to. I hope this advice helps!

Can the antibotic cefadroxil be used to treat a tooth abcess. ## Cefadroxil can in fact be used for dental infections; although amoxicillin and metronidazole are generally used as first line of treatment. In my opinion, it's best to stick to more natural options, such as Clove Essential Oil, to avoid many of the undesirable side effects that are associated with prescription drugs in general.
