Can I use bactrim to treat a tooth infection? ## Bactrim is an antibiotic that can be used to treat a variety of infections, it is one of the few that's been found to still be effective against MRSA. However, there are some problems that could arise, if you're trying to self-diagnose and self-treat. If you have leftover tablets from a prior prescription, you may not have enough to fully eradicate the infection and that creates the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Additionally, most dental infections are caused by issues, such as deep dental caries or receding gums, which require proper attention from a dentist. Otherwise, the infection will just keep coming back. You can learn more Bactrim details here. Have you had the presence of an infection confirmed by a de...

I used Bactrim; it takes more time to work than clindamycin. It has taken four days for the swelling to go down, but it has gone down and is almost normal now. I have double strength pills and will take them 2x a day for ten days. I also used the clove oil on my gums and that is working very well. They are going from red to pink again. You can buy this a CVS or Walgreens in the toothpaste isle. I also have been taking four advil 2x day for the swelling. ## Hello, KLF! How are you feeling? I'm glad the antibiotic worked for you. How fast it helps really depends on the nature of the bacteria and the severity of the infection. The FDA lists the typical side effects of antibiotics as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything e...

I have a abcess tooth wanted to know if keflex 500 mg will take the infection out. ## Hi Jackie, From what I could gather, Keflex (cephalexin) can in fact be used to treat a tooth infection. Apparently the usual adult dose for bacterial infections is listed as being anywhere from 250 to 500mgs every 6 hours; to be taken for up to 1-3 weeks, depending on the severity of the infection. However, these exact figures are generally something your doctor/dentist would determine upon a closer examination. I hope this helps answer your question! ## Does cephalexin help with sinus infection ## I have had a bad tooth infection with pain for some time now..and have been treating it with OTC pain meds.. In the past I used Amoxicillin..it helped..but I heard that Cephalexin can be used for this also....

My doctor prescribed septra ds800 160 milligrams as a prophylactic for an abscess on my leg, now I have a major toothache under my bridge, can I use that for my tooth ache as Well and if so, how much do I use of what they gave me, can I increase the dosage? And if so how much do I increase it by in order for it to work effectively? ## Hello, Michelle! How are you? I'm sorry about the infections. You should see your dentist, as while this is an antibiotic, it may not be the appropriate one to treat the infection causing your toothache. Additionally, you need to have the underlying cause repaired to prevent the infection from recurring. The FDA lists the typical side effects of antibiotics as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there...

I have found that the anacardic acids in raw cashew nuts and maybe mangoes do an excellent job of curing an abscess from gram positive bacteria, which are the most prevalent cause of tooth decay and tooth aches. It is conceivable that mango fruits may have sufficient anacardic acids as well. I wrote an article about it, and it is also discussed briefly in the 2006 edition of Medical Hypotheses, 65; 289-292. I would like to urge you to explore making these medicines available in the pure form from pharmacies. This would be especially valuable since these medicines would probably prove to be valuable against other gram positive diseases such as acne, leprosy, streptococci, Chlamydia trachomatis, and maybe even tuberculosis as well. Sincerely, Charles W.

I was prescribed ciprofloxacin for five days by my dentist and on the forth day I suddenly developed severe lower back pain, and generalized aches and pain which have lasted for past month and only gradually beginning to subside. I only suspected the ciproxin when a friend was taking it for chest infection and developed pain in Achilles tendon and is finding it difficult to walk. ## I was prescribed ciprofloxin hcl 500 mg tabs for a tooth infection. My mother has an abscess tooth and there is not enough left to pull. She does not have insurance so she can not pay to get it cut out. She is prescribed an antibiotic but cannot afford it. I had an infection a few weeks ago and still have some of my antibiotics left and i need to know if she can take them for this. ## Having 'some' of your antibiotics isn't going to be enough to give her a full course and destroy the infection. (You should have finished all of them, when you were taking them, actually.) In addition, even a full course of antibiotics is not going to solve the problem, with a tooth in that shape, she will just keep getting recurring infections and letting a dental infection like that go untreated can be very dangerous. What I'd recommend is looking for a d...

i have an infection on tooth extraction site prescribed clavemel forte 500 3 times a day for 5 days how long will it take for infection clear please. ## Hi Annabel, The infection should be gone close to or by the time you run out of the Clavamel forte (Amoxicillin + Clavulanic Acid). If the infection is still there after the 5 days of antibiotics, you'll want to speak with your doctor. In addition, I have heard that vanilla extract works well for tooth infections as well as clove essential oil. I have personally used both of those oils for an area on my gum that became swollen and it healed the area in a couple days. Those oils also helped to numb the pain I was experiencing, so it may do the same for you as well. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Amoxicillin + Clav...

Extreme tooth ache (infection) reoccurring of course. The only option to eliminate the pain and infection is a dentist. Of course I do not have that option right now. I haven't for a long time. Thus reoccurring tooth pain(infection). I have taken Clindamycin in the past for a tooth infection. But right now I only have the Sulfameth-Trimethoprim 800/160mg tabs. From what I have read it is not often prescribed for a tooth infection. But for a bacterial infection yes. So I am giving it a try. If it works I will update you. If it doesn't then it's a trip to the Emergency room for a numbing shot and a prescription for antibiotics that I might or might not be able to pay for. Tooth aches, abscess, or infection. Honest to God worst pain imaginable. That says alot Because I have bee...

Will this medicine help prevent infections after having teeth pulled I just had total extractions and was wworried about infections will this help ## Hi Tjay, Based on my research, antibiotics can be used to treat a tooth infection as well as prevent infections in some cases. I recommend that you just keep your mouth as clean and hygienic as possible, you can try rinsing with hydrogen peroxide if your dentist allows. Clove essential is also something you may want to look into trying because it does have antibacterial properties and is great for hygiene of the gums of teeth. Antibiotics are so harsh on the body and can cause lots of other issues, I wouldn't use them unless you have to. I hope this advice helps!

Can I take Ciprofloxacin for a tooth infection? I found some in the medicine cabinet from a previous Dr. Visit and was wondering if it would be effective??? ## Although Ciprofloxacin is not commonly prescribed for dental infections, it may be used for certain mouth or gum diseases, after a culture and sensitivity test is done. This will show the best antibiotic to treat the infection. (For example, Ciprofloxacin can effectively treat rare dental infections caused by the Enterobacteriaceae group of bacteria, but not others). So it may be a hit or miss if you still intend on using this medication. Dosages for dental purposes: The typical adult dose is 250 milligrams to 750 milligrams every 12 hours. This dose is given for 7 to 10 days. Ciprofloxacin should not be taken with dairy products...

I have a bad abses tooth is keflex a good antibioti to take for it ## Although Keflex (Cephalexin) is commonly prescribed for tooth abscess, some patients believe that Clindamycin is a better option for these types of infections. In my opinion, it's best to stick to more natural options, such as Clove Essential Oil, to avoid many of the undesirable side effects that are associated with prescription drugs in general. However, it probably just comes down to whatever your doctor recommended for you and whether or not your body reacts favorably to it. I hope this helps!
