I have had the flu and severe swollen tonsils for 3 days. Someone gave me a package of Pentrexyl. Same thing happened 6 years ago and I also had to take an antibiotic. Assuming it's an infection, will this work for my tonsils? ## Hello, Andrew! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're ill. Pentrexyl is listed as containing Ampicillin, which the FDA classifies as an antibiotic that's used to treat various bacterial infections. Typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, it is only appropriate to take, if you have an infection. It will not help with the flu, since that is caused by a virus and taking it inappropriately creates the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Have you c...

aspergum was taken when you had your tonsils out as an adult. Where can find it in Toronto ## Chantal I looked it up, and looks like they quit making it in 2006. All it was, was a gum with aspirin in it. You can get the same effect letting a baby aspirin dissolve in you mouth, then swishing and swallowing with a little water. Hope this Helps.

swollen tonsils ## I used this medication for an ear infection that work wonderfully had no other interactions with my medication. This medication was actually prescribed to my cat following oral surgery. I came be with severe ear pain over the weekend and used this medication as a last resort until I could get to my own Dr. The following week (no I could not afford an emergency room visit). ## This is an antibiotic that is used to treat various types of bacterial infections. My son had his tonsils removed on 6/2/2009. He has been on this medication for 10 days for severe ear pain/throat pain especially before eating/sleeping. Is this drug addictive? Should I be concerned that he is still taking? My husband is more concerned. I would like to trust physician's recommendation in that they would not prescribe for so long if it were a concern. I need a second opinion please. ## When I worked pain management in a very large hospital in Atlanta, I was taught that if you take the medicine for pain, there is almost no risk for addiction. If, however, he is taking it for a "feeling" then there is an issue. True pain needs to be treated. I hope this helps.

I just had My Tonsils out and Uvula Trimmed. It is a very painful recovery so far. I was given 5mg of ocycodone to take 2 pills every 6 hours. one of my friends gave me 75 4 mg dialaudid. I have been taking 1 4mg every 6 hours sometimes every 4 hours. i found the oxycodone 5mg did not work well so i switched over after the 2nd day. I have a bit of an addictive personality and i do not want to get addicted to this. the acute pain should last about another week from what i was told. What is the best way to start getting off the dilaudid ? i tried taking less of the dilaudid, ie extending times between doses or skipping but the pain is unbearable for me. Im 30 years old and the tonsils were the biggest the surgeon has told me he has seen. I lost over a litre of blood during the procedure w...

I got my tonsils infected and they are pretty big right now. Will this medication clear the infection? ## Hi, Gustavo! Sorry about the tonsil problems, I suffered from tonsillitis for many years, so I know how miserable it can be. As to Ampitrexyl, it listed as being a natural antibiotic product, not an actual medication, so there is no proof that it will help with an infection. The best thing to do would be to see a doctor for an examination and then they can prescribe a proper antibiotic, if needed. Are there any other questions I can help with?

My daughter just had tonsils, tubes, adnoids taken out.. she was prescribed (hydrocodon- acetamin 7.5-3.25/15. 5ml every 4 hours... I thought my wife saw me give it to her bc we were in the same room but 30 min. Later she gave her another dose... Is that too much? ## Hello, Ryan! How is your daughter? Did she suffer any adverse reactions. I really can't stress this enough, if you think that someones life or health may be in danger, please call poison control or seek emergency medical treatment. While there are people online that are always happy to help, if we can, we cannot administer life saving procedures, if they should be needed. ## In doubt ER.... at the very minimum monitor her for the next 6hrs. Usually after 2-3hrs if nothing has majorly gone wrong then it wont but I know i...

I got my tonsils out last tuesday (I live in Spain) and the doctor prescribed Paracetamol 1gm and Nolotil (Metamizole) 575mg to be taken ever 8 hours on alternating 8 hours. I have been taking Yasmin for a few years now with no problems. But, starting 2 days ago I noticed some spotting, today I put in a tampon to make sure of where the blood was coming from and it seems to be now a little more than spotting. I am wondering if this is an interacting with any of the medicine listed above or a combination of them, or if it is something I need to be worried about. Thank you. ## Hello, Ali! How are you? Spotting can occur with oral contraceptives, especially when you've undergone such stress and trauma, like your recent surgery. However, it would be best to consult your doctor to be cert...

Hey. I just had surgery (tonsils burned & removed) and the dr prescribed me Acetaminophen with Codeine in it. I've been instructed to take 15mL every four hours as needed. Is that 4 times a day? ## Hi Brittany, 4 goes into 24 hours (1 day) six times. This means that "every 4 hours" translates to 6 times a day. However, "as needed" means that you don't necessarily have to abide by that regimen if you don't feel the need to take it as often. Here's an example of how you could space it out evenly over a waking day, assuming you are awake from 6am to 10pm: 6 am (right after waking up) 10 am (mid-morning) 2 pm (early afternoon) 6 pm (evening/dinner time) 10 pm (shortly before going to bed) If you have any other questions concerning an appropriate dosing pr...

i have swollen tonsils and i been running a fever so i being taking Tylenol extra strength and im breast feeding my baby so i was feeling really bad that i took 2 Tylenol pills and a pentrexyl but i wonder if it has any side effects on my 5 month old baby? ## What has your doctor advised? Pentrexyl contains the active ingredient Ampicillin, which is an antibiotic and should only be used if a bacterial infection has been confirmed. It can be excreted in breast milk, so only your doctor can help you decide if it is safe for you to use.

I've heard that it can make your tonsils go numb... Rx #: 261758 Does anyone have more information about it? ## Miracle Mouthwash contains: Dexamethasone, Diphenhydramine, Nystatin, Tetracycline ## Miracle Mouthwash is actually just the name for a group of products that are regional and they may contain different ingredients, depending on what it is most commonly used to treat in any given area, or what a specific doctor asks that it contain. So, some might contain what Sal listed, but not all in every area will be identical. If you really want to know the specific ingredients and information on a product such as this, then you should ask the dispensing pharmacist.

I am a 38yo female. 120lbs. I just had my tonsils out today and am in some pain but not a lot... My Dr prescribed 2 Norco 7.5/325 every 6 to 8 hours for pain. I have found that 6 hours is a pretty long time for me... I even have a hard time with 4 hours.... And 2 pills are WAY too much... I'm good with one really, could probably cut that in half as it is... I'm wondering if I can take .5 to 1 every 3 hours instead of 2 every 6 hours? ## While this medication may work for severe pain, there is some amount of soreness that nothing is really going to relieve for awhile. As to the medication, you can safely cut it in half, but I'd not recommend not changing the dosing schedule, without asking your d...

Hi I have white spots in my tonsils and my throat feels cut up. I know it's tonsillitis that I have and therefore was going to ring doctors to get a prescription but my mum have me a full packet of Amoxicillin. I can't see an expiry date on packet but it does say on pharmacy sticker "ChkBy 27/06/16". Do you know what this stands for please? And should they still be ok to take?? ## "Check by" that date (Chkby) 06/27/2016. Take to pharmacy. Never good to use old antibiotics and self diagnose. A quick swab of the throat gives an answer and allows you to get the right med by a doctor. Could be a virus. ## All that means if it's an old bottle of Amoxicilin that if it wasn't taken by the chk by/expiring date back this past June obviously then u cld still take i...
