I have had a pink/red eye for 3 weeks now. My doctor prescribed erythromycin ophth ointment, tobramycin drops and it does not help. Should I try Terramycin? I am allergic to Bactrim which contains sulfate. Does Terramycin contain sulfate? ## Hello, Christy! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. How long have you been using the ointment and drops? They will take time to clear it up and won't work immediately. No, Terramycin is not a sulfa drug, but you shouldn't use it, unless your doctor approves as it may not be appropriate to treat the type of infection you have. Typical side effects to these topical products may include eye redness, irritation and skin rash. ## I have an inflamed red eyelid. May I use Terramycin ointment? If so, where can I find...

Hello. I am curious if Terramicina works at all or better on a stye than Tobramycin? ## Most do not require treatment, according to NIH reports, they will usually go away on their own, though it may take about a week, or so. As to using either of these medications, since they are not specifically formulated for optical use, thus, they might not be sterile and safe for use in your eye. According to the FDA that means they could worsen the issue, or cause additional infections. How are you doing? Has there been any change?

Opcon A eye drops work well for a short time. I haven't found any eye drops to replace Visine L.R. that have the lasting effects. Hope this helps! ## If you only need them occasionally, use what I use —although it's Rx Only (in practice, a local doc visits a local pharmacy and we buy it OTC or if we have Rx coverage, bring a script) —TOBRADEX (generic available: TOBRAMYCIN and DEXAMETHASONE. Not for daily use. Very effective and the generic is expensive; I use my RX coverage to pay for 3 x 5mL and noted that the retail would be close to $300, ad that;s for the Sandoz generic. Im not an ophthalmolog...
