I just learned that a friends, yes seriously a friend, has for the last nine days taken a half of a 15mg extended relief morphine every day and was planning to intermittently take a whole one to hopefully avoid withdrawal. My friend is doing this because my friend is going on vacation and his prescription becomes due during the time he is away. Our state has instituted "drug contracts" with the prescribing doctor and pharmacy for people using these types of drugs. This means he can not have it filled early to take with him, and his doctors office has rules about calling for the script 48 hours maximum before it is due. He was only trying to make it last so he would not be in as much pain and not go through withdrawal. I was concerned because I know you are not supposed to cut an...

I take morphine 60 mg 2 at a time it has a m on one side 60 on other. I know it's extended release but how much do u get at a time and how long does it last? Plus I can take 5 to 6 30 mgs of oxycodone at a time so how many morphines do I need to equal that? ## Hello, I believe that the absorption rate of any medication is determined by weight and other factors that only your doctor can asses. Is 5 to 6 (30 mg) Oxycodone pills what your doctor prescribed to you? I'm not exactly sure how many grams of Oxycodone will equal 2 (60 mg) Morphine pills, however I do know that Oxycodone is 1.5 times stronger than Morphine. I hope that information is of help to you in some way. If you are considering changing your medication, I recommend that you pay a visit to your doctor.

If I stop taking them today how long till they are out of my system? I have been taking about 10 per day. ## Hello, Crys! How are you? Wow, that's quite a lot to be taking daily. Morphine has a fairly short half-life, so it should only take about 7.5 to 42 hours, but this does not refer to its being detectable in some medical evaluations. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I take morphine 15mg extended release tabs right now and I normally take 1 Hydrocodone 10-550's but Im out of those right now..Im wondering if taking another morphine would be ok? I took the first one at 8:00am this morning and its now 7 hours later..Im in pain! ## While they do make 30mg Morphine sulfate extended-release tablets, I know that everyone reacts differently to different doses, based on tolerance - So I can't necessarily imply that a higher dose will still benefit you, in contrast to any possible side effects that come along with it. For that reason alone, it would probably be wise to discuss this approach with the doctor who prescribed you both medications, just to be on the safe side. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Morphine Details How long have...

Computer..meds, but VERY much enjoy and love info, thanks from a old MARINE. ## Hello, Sarge! How are you? Welcome to the Internet, where keyboard warriors abound to slay you with caps lock, and almost everyone believes everything they read on Facebook, without fact checking it. :D That said… Yes, it will take some time, if you stopped the Hydrocodone cold turkey to switch to Morphine, there are two issues that will cause your body to have to adjust. One is, of course, the change from one medication to another, which can cause some minor withdrawal effects, as reported by the NIH, and they can include rebound pain. The o...

I am disabled veteran with chronic pain, and after reading some of these, and knowing how terrible life was before I was prescribed both types, I just cannot believe, or understand "why" it is not treated with respect, and the beneficial results, it produces. I have been taking the same dosage except for a increase in the # of SR tablets per day, and some days, I still have pain, but not to the extent, I experienced for over 20 years trying to work and be a productive citizen. I'm having a tooth pulled & have 12 short release 5mg morphine pills for pain. I'd like to know how long each pill will last for my pain. 4 hours, 6 hours? ## It can actually vary from person to person, so there is no definitive answer I can give you. It is dependent upon your own metabolism, your tolerance to pain, and your tolerance to narcotics. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. Other than the time I had full dental surgery, I usually found that having a tooth pulled was not extremely painful, after it was over, it was more sore, than anything, however this is unique to my experience. But be sure to follow the dosing instructions that have...
