I have been on 50 mcg of levothyroxine for 5 months and I have gained 15 pounds. My doctor tells me that it should be the opposite and that I should loose weight. Is this possible? Have any of you taking this drug has experienced the same? ## I was on 50mg for about 2 weeks and noticed I had gained 10 pounds. So I stopped taking it and gained another 15lbs. now my test showed me to be 5.9 and my new doctor put me on 15mg. She said this will help me loose weight that the 50mg wasn't strong enough to help me not gain the weight. ## I have gained 15 pounds on synthroid. It made me edgy and caused gastrointestinal problems. ## I also was on Levothyroxine 50 for a few months and gained 10 pounds and had severe constipation. Synthroid Levothyroxine

Levothyroxine, also known as L-thyroxine, is a manufactured form of the thyroid hormone thyroxine (T4).[2][5] It is used to treat thyroid hormone deficiency (hypothyroidism), including Hashimoto's disease and a severe form known as myxedema coma.[2] It may also be used to treat and prevent certain types of thyroid tumors.[2] It is not indicated for weight loss.[2] Levothyroxine is taken by mouth or given by intrav...

After taking linzess for 8 months I gained 20 pounds and developed every symptom for hypothyroidism again. For the past 12 years I have been on synthroid 75. I have not had any hypothyroid symptoms once I began taking synthroid until taking the linzess medication. I stopped taking linzess and hoping it will exit my body quickly so my synthroid meds will begin working again. Why don't doctors tell you it prevents your thyroid meds from working? Why don't they tell you it will make you gain weight? I just hope I can get my thyroid and my weight under control again. ## A follow up on my hypothyroidism symptoms that was caused by Linzess: dr ran a TSH, T4, and a T3 blood test and the results showed I was on the low end but still within the acceptable range of the T3, the T4 and TSH ...

I have been taking this medication for quite a while and I believe my minor thyroid problem is under control. I have read and been told that this perticular medication can give you extra energy and weight loss. This is definately not happening in my case, in fact just the opposite. I have never felt this was due to medication though. An acquaintance told me that my medication would work in this manner if I took it at least one hour prior to taking my other medications and vitamins or drinking anything ie: coffee, tea, juice, etc. Could this be true and my doctor has just been remiss in relating this info to me, or have I been remiss in reading the RX insert? ## Well the basic point here is it says it can or may do that, it does not say that it will do that, which means that it works to ...

I'm taking 137 mgs right now but when my thyroid was down the Dr. gave me a different mg level, but I can't remember if this is what it was, but it sure gave me energy and I lost weight, but then he changed it and said that I'm where I should be and if I continued it I would get osteoarthritis as the dr said that I'm right on the borderline. I wish I could remember the mgs, because I felt so good and didn't have any problems on that mg level and I ask him if I could go back on it and he said no. Thank You Linda ## Well, there is, of course, no way for us to know for sure, what that dosage was, but I am betting you just hit a dosage that worked better for you than your current one. Whether it was a higher or lower dosage, our bodies do sometimes do better with a certa...

I am about to start on Synthroid, and was wondering if anyone ever went off it once they went on -- would your symptoms be the same as they were before, just not better as they (hopefully) were on Synthroid? I'm leery of having to be on medication for the rest of my life ... wondering if it's worth it to just put up with the symptoms unless they get intolerable. ## My wife was on Synthroid for 6 years. We were frustrated with the lack of improvement of hypothyroid symptoms. We did not like the side effects like heart palpitations. We tried Armour and now Nature Thyroid and have seen a reduction in hypothyroid symptoms. Synthroid is not an exact match to thyroid hormone and will not help people who have conditions that inhibit the bodies ability to convert T4 to T3 the active ver...

I need to know if essential oils will harm my tsh levels. Finally acceptable after thyroid removal in 2008 (cancerous). I have trouble sleeping and a friend suggested them. ## Hello, Robdel! How are you? I'm sorry, but no evaluations have been done to check essential oils to see if they do. I'd assume they most likely don't, because you don't really absorb much of the oils, at all, but you may want to double check with your doctor to be sure. Does anyone else know more?

my new dr changed my Synthroid from 125 down to 112 and I am now fatigued , swollen feet, light headedness and wt gain. Is this the reason? Can it cause heart failure? ## Hello, Nancy! How are you? Why did your new doctor change it? Did they check your levels first? Those can be signs of your thyroid levels being out of whack. As to the heart failure, no, I've not heard of it being known to cause that. Do you have a cardiac condition?

I have been on synthroid for approx 11 years. Some of my symptoms never went away. Cold hands &feet, losing (it does grow back, but I have a million baby hairs on my head) hair, etc. I read somewhere that changing from a strictly T4 (Synthroid) to a T3T4 (Armour) thyroid medicine would help. My doctor gave me the new medicine Armour 1 GR (60mg). I was on synthroid 0.112MG). Did my doc give me too high a dose of the new amrour medicine? I want my symptoms to go away but I don't want to overdose. Help! ## I was on Synthroid 0.112mg and the Dr. put me on Armour Thyroid 3GR. which is 180mg. I would say that your dose is closer to the equivelant of Synthroid then mine. I don't know what my last TSH, T4 levels were so I hope thats why he gave me such a high dose... All I know is I...

hi has anyone taken this pill and has hypothyroid? && has anyone taking synthroid taken this pill? has anyone have had success ? lmk pleae i would really appreciated ## From what I've been reading online, there are many people who find Redotex to be a useful treatment option for hypothyroidism. Apparently it contains 75mcg of triiodothyronine (the same hormone your thyroid would normally produce). However, this medications also contains a number of other questionable ingredients that have been deemed unsafe when used together and even banned in some countries; so researching safety protocols first would be a good idea so you know exactly what you're putting in your body. I hope this helps!

I have been taking Synthroid for about a year now. I started at 25 mcg and am now taking 175 mcg. My problem is, I still have racing pulse and headaches, they were infrequent, but have become more frequent in the past week or so. I also have sweat episodes. I take Tylenol pm to help me sleep, could this affect the Synthroid. Generally I just feel ill and nauseous with racing pulse for the past week or so. I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you. ## You might want to talk to your Doc about taking a different type of medication like Westhroid or Naturthroid these are the natural types of thyroid meds that work very well for some people. How are you? Sorry about the thyroid issue. As to your doctor not knowing about you being on the Suboxone, you must tell them that, before the surgery. If they aren't informed, it could put you at great risk of serious complications and the inability to be properly anesthetized or to get adequate pain relief after surgery. I had my Thyroid remove due to thyroid cancer and have been taking synthroid for 3 yrs, since then my Blood pressure and cholesterol skyrocketed, before surgery(synthroid) my BP around 120/75 and Cholesterol below 5(around 200), now it's 140/80 or hinger and Cholesterol 6.6. ## Has your doctor definitively related the medication to these bodily changes? There may be other reasons, including after effects of the surgery, or other medical reasons, such as aging, poor date, improper exercise and etc. It's very hard to blame a medication and prove that it has caused conditions that are very common.
