How long does terramicina take effect on a stye??? ## Hi mike, From what I've read, this medication can be used for eye infections. However, I do believe there is a separate US brand of Terramycin "eye ointment" that is specifically geared towards these types of infections. As to how long it works, Terramycin has an estimated half life of 6 to 8 hours; after which, it's effects can begin to dwindle. There are also a couple of other alternative treatment options for stye's that are thought to work just as well or better. One simple approach that is suggested, is to take a clean wash cloth and soak it in vinegar or water as hot as you can stand. Then press the wash cloth against the stye, holding it there until it cools. Some people recommend doing this several times d...

can this be used for an ear infection in an adult and how often should it be given ? ## Terramicina Oftalmica (Oxytetracycline) is used to treat infections of the respiratory and urinary tracts, skin, EAR, eye and Gonorrhoea although the use of Tetracyclines for such purposes has declined in recent years due to large increases in bacterial resistance to this class of drugs. The drug is particularly useful when Penicillins and/or Macrolides cannot be used due to allergy. Unfortunately, I was unable to locate any information regarding what the dosing should be for treating ear infections. I would suggest calling your local pharmacy to get that information, since it can vary to some degree based on each individual and how severe the infection is. Can I put this cream on a 5 year old's eye area? And Is this cream used to treat eczema areas? ## My 6 year old daughter is presently experiencing an irritable eye that is running cold. I have terramycin ointment at hand, but it has expired since Nov. 2010. I cannot get to a drug store now. Can I use it ???? ## It isn't advisable to use any medication in or on the eye that hasn't been specially formulated for such use. The eye requires sterile substances, as it is very sensitive and easily susceptible to infection and/or damage. Products made for the eye can be used elsewhere, but products made to be used elsewhere should not be used for the eye. Learn more Oxytetracycline details here. Where can I fill a prescription for terramicina in the l.a area? ## Hi Miguel, Just for your own information, Terramicina isn't available here in the US. Terramicina is actually a Mexican version of Terramycin (oxytetracycline hydrochloride). However, Terramycin is reportedly available with a doctor's prescription. So I don't know if you'd have to get a new prescription with an American drug name on it in order to have your Rx filled, but that may be a possibility and something to just keep in mind if you run into any issues. Nevertheless, it sounds to me like your best bet would be to contact a local pharmacy there in LA for more specific details regarding its availability. I hope this helps!

I have used terramicina cream in the past for lip blisters, and found it to be really soothing and quickly healed with this treatment. In the corner of my eyes is sore with redness ## @gonzo, Terramicina or "Terramycin" in english terms is an antibiotic marketed in several forms, including an ophthalmic ointment for treating eye infections specifically in animals such as horses, cattle, cats, dogs, etc... Every article of information I'm finding on the ophthalmic ointment points back to its veterinary applications, but nothing concerning human use. So with that said, I think it may be best to double check with your doctor before attempting to use it on yourself. I have pink eye. Can I use terramicina in my eye as a salve, or just around the eye? ## I think it really depends on whether or not you have the ointment, powder or the eye drops. There should be instructions on the package, no? That's just wrong if there isn't, as from what I can tell it can be used to treat pink eye. Based on information i've gathered, the application guidelines are simple. Listed below are the indications for the ointment: "Broad-spectrum antibiotic ideal for mild bacterial eye infections Easy to use - simply apply ointment directly on the affected area" I'm assuming that the eye drops are no different other than actually dropping it into your eye.
