I have been on methadone for 7 years now. Up until I started taking it I had perfect teeth, never even a cavity, and rarely went to the dentist. Now for the past 4 years my teeth have started breaking, getting cavities at the gum line, and severe tooth aches. My dentist seems to think I have an eating disorder and that is why my teeth are the way they are. Any one else have this problem with methadone? ## This can actually happen with many medications, especially narcotics. Many people who use them for pain management, for long periods of time, end up with severe dental problems and many lose all their teeth. I still have a lot of work that needs done from the years I spent on pain management. There are two ways that narcotics cause these types of problems. The first is due to the fact ...

I took Prolia two months ago. I am developing loose teeth and sore spots on my gums. Have others experienced similar problems after taking Prolia? I go to the dentist regularly and have had no dental problems for several years. ## Hello, Dorrie! How are you? You should see your dentist to have this checked out. In certain rare cases, Prolia can cause osteonecrosis of the jaw, it's unlikely, but it would be best to have it checked out, to be sure. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include headache, vertigo, sciatica, anemia and rash. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I'm going to my Dentist for an X-ray of jaw bone tomorrow. Just started hurting this weekend which is Memorial Day weekend. So far, I have had every side effect that Prolia offers and my...

After taking Oxycontin for 2 years, to lessen pain from chemo, radiation therapy & liver therapy during and after the strong medications. I was very happy to get the pain relief from the Oxycontin. Aftereffects problem with tooth decay and loss. I now receive Social Security Disability so I do not have a lot of money for dental care. Do you offer any programs to help people with dental problems from using Oxycontin? Thank you. ## Unfortunately no, there aren't any programs for such things. However, the Oxycodone can cause such issues for several reasons. The first is usually due to the fact that it causes dry mouth, which means that your saliva isn't rinsing away the bacteria on your teeth, in the manner that it usually does. The second is due to the fact that it can also ca...

I believe seniors WILL get Dementia more rapidly by not being able to keep their teeth clean, etc. We must have Medicare and Medi - Cal put this back in their insurances as seniors need help with their teeth just as much as a child does. This is not right or fair. Do you know the paid a senior can also go through? I think you should see that this comes to an end before we are all Hitler's. ## Proper hygiene is certainly a top priority for most human beings these days. Not to come off blunt, but I believe preventative measures for good health are more important than treatment options for those who choose not to take care of themselves (i.e. not brushing their teeth, showering, etc). What ever happened to eating your fruits and vegetables, exercising daily, meditating, & socializi...

Has anyone else known oxycontin to rot the teeth? I used to be on vicodin until my doctor told me I needed to switch to a morphine based meds. She put me on ms contin but I had problems with it so she put me on 80mg oxycontin. Eventually my body built up a tolerance so she kept raising it, i have am now on from 4-6 per day of the 80mg tabs. It scares me that this is what rotted my teeth because only 5 yrs ago i had only 2 cavities that needed filling and then only 1 yr after going on the oxycontin i had to have all my top front teeth pulled as they where rotting from the inside out the dentist said my mouth looked like a heroin addict's mouth looks. He said it was shocking to him that normally he only saw such damage from someone who abused drugs with so much dental damage, but i ha...

Has anyone found a cure/answer/method to correct severe yellow teeth staining from taking Terramycin as a young child? Dental bleaching hasn't really worked too well. I have been told this is because of the Terramycin affecting the colouring of the teeth from the inside rather than from the outside enamel. Can anyone help? I have put up with the staining for some 40 odd years now and would love to correct it. ## Hi, I have the same issue, was on terramycin for a long time as a young child. my teeth are still ugly. I now also have problems with teeth crumbling, or chipping off. Have you heard of this? Dentist said it may be related to the weakness of my enamel. ## The only thing I know of is having the teeth capped or veneered. You usually don't have to do them all; just 6-8 of t...

stained teeth from advair use ## My 10 year old son takes advair and gets stained teeth as his doseage increases. Does anyone else see this side effect? Anyone know how to fix it? ## My 6 yr old is getting stained teeth too from advair. I had to take him to the dentist to have them scraped. I'm debating not using advair anymore as the staining is a dark yellow. ## Stained teeth and dental problems are an unfortunate side effect of many medications and other than not using them, there aren't many other options, There is really no way to prevent it. Just make sure that your dentist knows your child is using it and keep regular appointments, You should be aware though, that sometimes, while you or your child is actively taking a medication that can cause dental issues, some dentist...

I am the patient of a pain management physician because there is nothing else that can be done for my back other thantry to manage my pain. I have had 19 back surgeries, including rods, broken back and rods on right side. My last surgery was the insertion of two morphine pain pumps, which caused my body to reject the plastic or some component thereof. They also inserted two dual-lead dorsal column stimulators, and even though all four of these pumps worked successfully, my body also rejected come component in the stimulators as well. One of the largest problems, second only to the pain, was the fact that I had 5 deep wound that went all the way down to my rectus muscle in my stomach. I had a staph infection from the pump as well as the stimulator. It took 6 months of wound care from the...

I have been on lyrica from the very beginning of release 12-01-05. I have major side effects taking 900mg a day, now having teeth loss. Has anyone else been having this problem? Please help. ## Within the past year I have undergone 5 root canals and 1 failed root canal that resulted in extraction. I have also been diagnosed as severely deficient in Vitamin D (18 of 35). This all came about after being on Lyrica a little over 1 year. I am interested in hearing other teeth related stories as we have spent over $8K in the past year trying to save the teeth I have. After 18 years of timely adult check-ups I found these problems all at once! ## Lyrica can cause or aggravate dental issues, as will a lot of medications if you are on them long-term. One of the primary reasons is that it causes ...

Hi there. Can prexum plus cause problems with your teeth. I have been using prexum now for about 3 years and recently started to have problems with my teeth. They are very brittle. They brake easily.. any comment on this?? ## Hello, Pieter! How are you? This medication could have an effect in a round about way, it can cause dry mouth and that allows bacteria to sit on your teeth longer than normal, since there is less saliva to wash it away and that is how many medications end up causing dental problems for people. Te best thing to do would be to see your dentist, so they can check things out and let you know what's going on. Is there anything else I can help with?

I Took Reglan many many years, i was having problems with jaw legs teeth chattering etc didnt know why..Well now i know you are not suppose to take it over three weeks i would say at a time...well try 20 years...I WOULD not ever give this to a child or take when i was pregnant...ITS BEEN BLACKBOXED in 2009 by the FDA. Now i have bad TD and at times i cant use my hands plus i truly believe its the cause of alot of my stomach locking up on me. Just my opinion ## Yes, there is warning about taking Reglan longer than 12 weeks (3 months), due to the risk of it possibly causing an irreversible movement disorder. As to stomach issues, it really depends on what you had, before you started taking it, there is a warning that you shouldn't take it, if you have a stomach blockage, bleeding, or ...

My 14 year old daughter has terrible pain because of infection in her tooth. She has on going problems with her teeth because of a dental disease she has. It is the weekend and we ran out of the usual pain med prescribed. The dentist is impossible to contact. So... I wondered if it would be safe to give her hydrocodone as an alternative. She weighs 120 lbs. ## Hello, Melissa! How is she doing? Hydrocodone is actually a narcotic, so it's just not safe to give it to her, without a doctor's approval. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. What was she taking for it? When will she be seeing her dentist? ## We finally got her out of the pain once her antib...

No, neither of those are listed as being known side effects. Its typical ones, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include headache, rash, upset stomach and discoloration of urine. Are you also on an antibiotic? There are some of them that can cause discoloration of your teeth and the UTI itself might be causing the chills you're experiencing.

In Tijuana today I had 2 teeth pulled. They prescribed Mavidol Ketorolaco for 5 days. I already take Vicodain for pain in my lower back where surgery went wrong and now have bone against spine. Is there any problems using both pain medicines> ## Hello, Gwen! How are you? The Ketorolac is just a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory that's used to treat pain, fever and swelling. There are no interactions listed between it and the Vicodin, but it's always best to double check such information to be sure. It can also increase the risk of bleeding, so there are some risks to taking it after extractions. However, you might not need both, the Vicodin might do well for alleviating the pain from the extractions. It's actually what many dentists offices prescribe for that. This is a nar...

I have been on Levothyroxin for about 4 months and all of the sudden my teeth hurt and are starting to get loose. Do you think it could have to do with Levothyroxin? ## Hi, Diane! I just switched from oxybutin to myrbetriq. The oxybutin caused dry skin (and I'm wrinkling like a prune), a host of problems from dry mouth including crumbling teeth and hypersensitivity to spices including salt. Some days the salt in cheese burns. I got mouth sores and some days I couldn't eat bread without choking. I knew my eyes were dry - I'm just reading here that my recent vision problems were more fallout. And the horrendous leg cramps. The question is, how soon can I hope to see a difference? Will it reverse? ## Hello, Vric! How are you? Yes, it should reverse, but it may take a few weeks from the time you stopped taking it. However, you should be aware that Myrbetriq carries the risk of causing similar side effects, as reported by the FDA, so you may still experien...

I was placed on Lyrica only a few months ago (only 75mg) Did it help my pain from nerve damage? yes it did. I am aware of the dry mouth warning, but there's no excuse for this. If you are thinking of this med. do more research, PLEASE. The blogs are everywhere.... ## Thank you Cheryl! I'm not crazy. I was on Lyrica for almost a year. Every other month I'd brake a molar or a tooth. I didn't know what was going on.
