Is the best time to take this medicine in the morning or night? ## Has your doctor made any specific recommendation? Metoprolol is a beta blocker, used to treat high blood pressure and cardiac conditions and, in most cases, this type of medication is taken in the morning, because most people are far more active during the day, so that is the time their blood pressure can be elevated. However, it can cause some drowsiness and dizziness, in some people, as a side effect, and in those instances, it may be necessary for someone to take it at night. ## I am taking Lisinopril @20mg and also i am taking Metoprolol tart 25mg tab myl, my question is why do i take two High bloodpressure pills? Can i stop taking the Metoprolol Tablet? i think it is the culperet that makes me dizzy aswell, I have n...

Been having an itching scalp and skin at night when going to bed and it keeps me awake. Changed shampoos several times thinking that was my problem. Then I saw the list of side effects and it could be this medicine. Feels like ants crawling on my skin during the day and at night. Been taking this since my open heart surgery in Jan 2015. Seems to be getting worse. Anyone have these side effects? ## Hello, Jules! How are you? This class of medications can cause those types of issues, due to the way they work on your circulation to lower blood pressure and improve heart function, as reported by the FDA. I used to experience it myself, when I was taking Candesartan. However, since you have had open heart surgery, there could be something else going on with your circulation that isn't re...

I've been taking 20 mg lisinopril a day at 12 noon. I took it today at 12 noon, then my dr. changed it to 50 mg Metoprolol when I saw him this afternoon. Question is, can I start the 50 mg Metoprolol at 12 tonight when I go to bed, even tho I took my last Lisinopril a 12 today? I get bad increase heart beat/pulse at night. He thinks the change in Rx might help. ## Hello, Cheryl! How are you? Did your doctor specify? Are you supposed to take the Metoprolol twice a day? If so, then most likely yes, they meant for you to start at bedtime, but if you're unsure, please call their office to check. Metoprolol is classified by the FDA as a beta blocker that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Typical side effects are listed as possibly incl...

My mother has been taking metoprolol tartrate for 2 years. Six to eight weeks ago she started experiencing hallucinations(seeing things that are not real,) at night after taking the pill. She called her doctor but the doctor told her to break the pill in half, which is going from 50 to 25 mgs. I am afraid she will have an episode while driving. Is there another medication equilvalent to what she is taking. Should the doctor have taken her off of the medicine. ## Hello, Barbara! How is your mother doing? Hallucinating is not a typical side effect of this medication and has only been reported in a few rare cases where someone was taking the extended release formulation. There are other medication options, such as Labetalol, which is known to cause far fewer side effects. Has she contacted...

I have white coat and anxiety. My doctor has had me on Metoprolol 100mg succinate once a day and just switched me to 100mg tartrate twice a day since my BP was high in his office. Is this dangerous or the dosage too high? Seems like a high dosage. ## Hello, Kera! How are you? What are your bp levels at other times? If it's really only high, when you're in the doctor's office, a medication isn't necessary. Even an ER won't treat for that, they will only do so if levels are dangerously elevated. As to the medication, it is actually safe in doses up to 450mgs a day. ## I take Lisinopril 10 mg a day and Metoprolol 100 mg at night. My blood pressure is still elevated around 150s/90s. My cardiologist has told me to double the Metoprolol to 100 mg a day. That seems like a l...

Been taking metoprolol 25mg tartrate twice daily and by the time I go to bed and fall asleep by bloodpressure spikes during the night. Don't know if the meds have worn off during the night or if I should be taking another pill before bed. Tried to get a hold of my doctor but he is out on vacation. Does any one else have this same problem. I can tell my bp was high cause when I wake in the morning my eyes are blood shot. ## High blood pressure only rarely causes blood shot eyes, it is especially doubtful if it only happens when you are sleeping and goes away. There are a ton of other causes, however, including disrupted sleep. You shouldn't change this medication, without consulting with your doctor, because too much of it can cause unsafe drops in your blood pressure. Have you c...

Metoprolol Tartrate low dose, but very TIGHT face, neck, head muscles, often coupled with NUMB face and jaw, for hours at a time, sometimes all day and night --- side effects due to the metoprolol? I'm also suffering from tight chest muscles, but often for just a half hour to an hour at a time and feeling that it's hard to breathe / shallow breath (but not sure if the muscle tightness is the cause of the breathing difficulty). Again, might these be side effects? NOTE: It's entirely possible that, instead, I'm simply suffering more and more from weird undiagnosable nerve problems, but I'm worried of course that it could be the medicine, not the condition. BTW, the med is very good at lowering my Blood Pressure. ## i was wndering if metoprolol could be the cause of my ...

Took metoprolol tartrate 50mg last night and woke up 4 hours later with bp 145/107 went back to sleep woke up 151/98. What to do? ## Hello, Lucy! How are you? My first question is how long have you been taking it? This medication will take about a month to reach its full level of efficacy in your body, so you're not going to see an immediate improvement in your blood pressure. My second question is why are you checking it when you wake up in the middle of the night? As I said, these medications don't work immediately, it will take a few weeks to see improvement, if it works for you. Obsessively checking, whenever you have trouble sleeping or what have you is only going to worry you needlessly. You should only check it as often as your doctor has instructed and make sure to take ...
